1. Painterly original works of artist only (no photographs, digitals, or copies of others' work)
2. One image accepted per day. Image must be clear and suitable for print reproduction*
3. No celebrities, nudity, vulgarity, violence, excrement, type, copyright infringement
4. Admin (moi!) has final word on image acceptability, membership, features
5. New members MUST read this post in its entirety (torture), AND reply to THE RULES.
*images of paintings that are available ONLY for original sale, or images strictly for portfolio purposes (prints not available) do not need to be reproduction quality, and will be accepted..
More detailed information is below, but the above are our only hard RULES. The rest are policies, explanations, and varied ramblings I'd like to think are important, and interesting.
Read links below to familiarize yourself with how FAA works:

FAA FAQ and help
Image policy: while I try to be open minded and broad in my acceptance of paintings, any work submitted that DOES NOT fit any "painterly" criteria will be removed. The biggest indicator of a painting not being painterly is if it does not look painted, or looks like coloring within lines. A painterly painting is the opposite of a linear painting--it does not rely on line to define form. .
I only accept one submission a day. I won't make exceptions and I won't inform you when I have to remove an image.
Rejected Paintings: Images that don't meet group criteria will be removed without explanation. If you want to know why your painting wasn't accepted or removed, click on this link to see why. You can then make necessary corrections and resubmit. To remove rejected images, click edit on the image in question, scroll down to the groups section, uncheck the group where the image has been rejected, and save.
Feature policy: I will choose works I feel are the best examples of Painterly Fine Art for the day to feature on the front page. I will only feature images that have been photographed or scanned properly. I wish our group to be a reliable place where collectors can be assured of the best art.
Please help me choose features by posting your favorites of the day among the accepted paintings by doing as follows:
1. Click on the "images" tab to view new images
2. Choose your favorite
3. Post painting in appropriate discussion
4. Leave a comment on the artist's painting, vote, promote, etc.
Don't forget to post your featured paintings in the feature discussion thread. Older features will be rotated out and this is a great way to continue to feature them.
Promotion: Review the "how to get noticed on FAA discussions." Links are listed below:
1. High quality work that is unique, has clear intent/voice
2. High quality photos or scans of your work
3. Descriptive titles
4. Go slow, post one to three images per day
5. Keywords/tags are vital to being seen online
Mini galleries:
Artists may create a mini gallery in our discussion tab!
1. Start a new discussion
2. Include your name and "gallery" in the title
3. Introduce yourself and works in the message and "submit"
4. Each day "reply" to your gallery with 1, 2, or 3 images. You can also edit your posts in order to group images together for a tidier look!
Mini gallery guidelines:
1. No more than 3 images per day (the slow trickle keeps the group active and varied)
2. Try to visit one other thread (promote on any/all of the images you like), each time you post on your own thread. *special privileges apply to uber good artists who ask very sweetly and give me loads of compliments ;)
Genuine You can count on me to be genuine in my remarks. I feel everyone should continue their art journey wherever they are. But I don't feel all works are suitable for a professional venue such as FAA. The designer of this wonderful program set checks and balances in place to ensure the best works are placed highest in the search results. Voting, favoriting, traffic, comments, being featured, all take a part of that. So! I will vote, favorite and promote the works I believe show high expertise, cognition, and expression. I will NOT continue in the FAA tradition of TELLING you in the comments if I promoted your work. I feel comments should be meaningful and genuine (though always positive) and not tallies of who will feel obligated to reciprocate votes. Feel free to carry on whichever way works best for you. Please trust that I am voting, promoting my favorite works of yours. Regardless of your paintings, it is YOU, the artists, that I believe in and want to support.
I'll be updating this page as needed so check in on occasion to make sure you haven't missed anything important or particularly witty.

Talya, great, to the point, encouraging and challenging directive for the group. Much appreciated. Chana

For those who have replied, I congratulate you for being law abiding groupies.
Sadly there are a few folks who need a bit more threatening (ahem, I mean encouraging) approach, hence I am changing the title to be more persuasive. I do so hate being a meanie, but really mustn't have anarchy.
Law abiding groupies, may carry on with my blessings. :)

I think your rules are very fair. The one thing, though, is that I've been posting a WIP to my gallery, which has not be accepted into the group (because it is not done yet). I kind of consider my gallery "my corner" of the group, and hope to continue to post my WIP there. I don't want to create a new thread for it if I do not have to. I will, of course, if you want me to, though. I just hope to keep all my stuff in one place. Let me know either way.
Thanks, for replying, David! You are welcome to keep your WIP's in place, since you asked so nicely, AND I know it will be accepted into the group when you are finished. There are others that posted images before they were accepted that are catching up as well. I am happy to add you to the law-abiding groupies. I believe we would all appreciate reading more regarding your process if you are willing to share (crossing my fingers).
Talya, thank you! By the way, if you are interested in my process, I keep detailed notes and photographs of all my WIPs on my blog:

Thank you Talya for your 'words of wisdom'. I like your style!!! I think you are a great asset to FAA and I am really enjoying the very good feeling I am getting about this group.
I'm just wondering whether it would be neater and tidier, and easier on the eye, in the mini gallery to keep adding work in the same area, by using 'edit post', rather than adding more after a long stream of comments. For instance I would keep one area solely for landscapes, and another areas for portraits etc. Would be pleased to hear what others think of this idea.
I'm sure you know this, but I will remind the group that it is always a great idea to include all your links to blogs websites, social networks, wherever you can. The webcrawlers eat that stuff up, and so do collectors. So add all that to your little personal galleries as well where you introduce yourselves...yes, yes, pot. Kettle. Black. I'm a total hypocrite. But it is still a good idea. :)
I also got a note from Michael Swanson, so he's on the good list now too. Yaaaaay! Now, go hound the rest of the members so no one thinks I'm a meanie!
I understand and will help where I can.
Cheers for your great work for all of us, Michael
11 Years Ago
OOOOOoh! Good idea Lynda! 'course I'm not going to police that part, but I agree it would be much more tidy! I will certainly do that myself! I'll also get rid of all my threatening tyrant posts once everyone (or most) are on the good list :)
Oh, also keep in mind that every time someone comments or you "reply" on your mini-gallery it will be "bumped" back to the top of the discussions. so there is that added advantage of the "reply" method.

Talya,
I'm not very savy with the computer. The day I joined the group I submitted a few images of my paintings, you have selected one of them (thank you)
and put it in the group images. I then realized that I should have sent one only (am I correct)? However I cannot figure out how to submit others
to keep up with my one a day. Another thing I realized is that the others I sent are in the rejections area. Were they rejected for the quality of work or is it that I sent too many at one time. Please advise.
Thanks Lucia
Twyla, you are doing wonderful things with this group! I shall try my best to follow your reasonable and simple guidelines - it all sounds good to me! Thanks!!
hi Lucia!
No problem, I totally understand the learning curve with the computer.
Yes, one painting a day.
Your paintings are beautiful! Most are inadequately photographed/scanned, however they were rejected because the one-a-day rule.
to submit, click on the my images tab within the group
look on the left hand side and there will be buttons with options on them as follows:
Active
pending
Rejected
Non-group
click on the rejected button, select the images and click remove
Click the non-group images, select the image you wish to submit, and click add to group
While I will accept paintings that are not high resolution, I won't feature blurry, or inadequately photographed/scanned paintings. To remedy this, I suggest you browse this http://fineartamerica.com/showmessages.php?messageid=432109
read Catherine's excellent tutorial on scanning of this thread http://fineartamerica.com/groups/painterly-fine-art--1-per-day.html?showmessage=true&messageid=1040962

Hi Talya,
thanks for your effort to make this group something higher than the usual. I totally agree with your opinion about the blurry, or inadequately photographed/scanned paintings. If you put a lot of skills in creating an artwork, you could spend some time and photograph it properly for the purpose of FAA.
I have one question, I saw that some members are grouping their images in discussion mini-galleries 2 or even 3 in a row and I don't know how this is done? Can you help - this would carry both Lynda's idea of saving place and your to bump galleries on top with replies. We will save space and still get a lot of attention when post new paintings in a reply.
Thanks once again for everything you're doing, I know it's a time consuming job and I'm appreciating this!
Good thing you commented, Kiril, because I want to keep featuring your work!
Yes, on the post you want to add images to, on the blue bar on top, there will be a tiny link saying "edit this post" click on it, then cut and paste more images in there. If you want to out them in a row, make there there is no "return" or "enter" between the two different image codes, maybe even no space bar "space". But please be sure that they are images I've already accepted, or everyone will accuse me of playing favorites. :)
Thanks Talya, it was so simple but actually done the job perfectly! I was thinking it has to be some string of html code and it's just "don't hit enter between the paintings". Sorry, if I broke the rules with posting paintings in the mini-gallery! I'll check and remove if I had to. Thanks once again!
No worries, Kiril, just catch up by adding the images in here one at a time, it's what most of the artists are doing. And thank you for favoriting my Fall painting. I am easily flattered! :)
Ok, sorry everyone for featuring without comments today. I'll attempt catching up tomorrow but no promises, since I seem to have my hands full ensuring compliance from members... Again thank so much for everyone who has read and commented here. I know Im running things a little differently but I have high hopes for all of us! :)

Thanks for the guidelines Talya. Also, for the tips on how to make things work better. Your group leadership is much appreciated.

O.K. Talya, I'll be a good law abiding girl too!!! Just kidding, I appreciate your valuable time and efforts with us. I too(as you may know) am a computer idiot! Will try my best and will value any guidence that you throw my way.

Thanks Tayla. As an emerging artist, I appreciate belonging to a group who really appreciates art's beauty, uniqueness, and the time involved from the moment of inspiration to the "finished" (really never finished LOL) painting! I am looking forward to art shows and what this website will bring to my life and devotion to my art everyday. I dream about my next painting; constantly looking for inspiration from my backyard, my kids, my animals, my friends, etc. etc. t; I can't even look at anyone's walls anymore without examining them for ideas or critiquing them internally. I want to make a piece that astounds and ooozes with emotion.
Thanks again!

I tried to tidy up my gallery! LOL! I think I messed it up more than tidied! I was trying to shift a bush painting up into another thread, but then I got left with the same post as well. Is it possible to delete a post? I don't see any 'deletey' type gizzmo's anywhere, only 'submit' ones.
Hi Talya !
I have to tell you that i opened this thread more for curiosity than anything else but then your personality completely got my attention !!
I don´t know if i will participate as much as would like but i will try my best ! I'm sure this group is going to be as different as you are !
I'm a very recent painter (two years) and completely self taught so i wasn't even so sure if you would accept my paintings as "Painterly Fine Art" and i'm already very happy that you did ! I'm trying to understand painting, as much as Art, as go along so your promise of honest opinion really suits me !
Thanks a lot for telling me about the mini gallery, i'll come back to do it as soon as i get three or more works in the group !
Great group Talya ! I'm happy to be part of it !
Hi, I am new and have read your post and think this is a wonderful group. I look forward to participating.

@Lynda, lol, the deletey type gizmo is on the left ;) I just adore people's who make up words!!
Mary, glad you popped in so I didn't have to send the FAA police after you ;)
Paula, you will fit right in and love it!
Linda, I'm so impressed you checked policies YOUR FIRST DAY in the group!! as a "letter of the law" kind of gal, I certainly appreciate it.
Talya,
I think I goofed again and sent two images instead of one today. Mia Culpa. Thanks for staying on top of us with your policy reminders.
Remember me? I'm the unsavy one when it comes to computers. I'm still trying to figure out how to make a mini gallery then I can sendthree images a day, right?
Lucia
Sorry Talya, I read the post days ago... nod in agreement at computer... then realize (days later) I should post that - lol.
You are already on the "good" list, Mary, no worries ;)
Lucia, hi! No, I didn't get anything more from you yet, try again? The mini gallery isn't "required". But I'm afraid the one-a-day rule stays regardless. :)
Talya, first of all I want to thank you for creating this group. I read yesterday the policies and I think all is fair and today, as Mary Ellen says, I realize I have to post also the agreement here.... :)
PS : Sorry for posting some works in the mini gallery that are not in the group, but I read the rules after.
Hi Talya,
I have created my mini gallery so I think I am on the right side of the law now. I may have posted 2 paintings with a 23 hour gap between them but this won't happen again as I expect to post only a very small number per month.
Woot woot!! I am we'll pleased with my obedient minions! LOL (I hope everyone knows half the stuff I say is in jest...except the policies...I never joke and rules...at least not much). I just want to keep everything fair so we can sell our works to informed, happy collectors while growing in our artistic journey.

Hi Talya,

awesome!!! Three more on the good list!!! Oh my this is going to get difficult to keep track of...
Hello Talya, read all above and sounds and reads all good for the time being, if anything changes I will let you know. As far as law abiding, I am not so sure about that, I have been a rebel all my life, but I think I can work with a benevolent dictator especially if its for the good of all concerned. Rules are meant to be broken, but before breaking them, one has to learn them good, so here I go with learning your rules right now, I will try to break them (but creatively) later when I am proficient at the. Time will tell how long I last... for the time being thanks for accepting me in your group. Now of to learning the rules first...
aloha from Hawaii to you and all the members of this group,

Sorry it took my so long to post here. I appreciate your efforts. I haven't participated much in this group yet because I'm just starting to do a few paintings after many years. I hope to be able to contribute more in the future.
Hi Talya, I am new to FAA and have a lot to learn. I'm joining 'properly' in the next week or so and will then be able to upload more images. You work very hard to make this group exciting and enjoyable and I hope you get back much respect and fine works of art!
Thank you, Catherine, that is very kind :) Karl, Darice, Shasta, MM, you are wonderful!! I will happy add to out the wall of fame!! :)

Oh, I think I messed up. I was so distracted by all the intro info and in my excitement I forgot the most important step, acknowledgement here!!! So sorry. Yes, I’ve read, and now re-read your info and although I may not have it lock in my noggin’ I have a pretty good handle on it, I think. Look forward to more discourse! And thanks for the feature and future feature. Really so nice of you Talya. Cheers!

Thank you for all your work. I am a ditz when it comes to my computer. To top that...I just switched from a PC to a Mac and I am still trying to learn how FAA works. Please be patient as I know that so many of us prefer to spend more time painting than learning our way around the computer. When given a choice, I seem to grab a paintbrush and dive into that world. With all that said, I repeat...Thank you for all your assistance and the opportunity.
Thank you Talya! You have lots of knowledge I see. Any words of advice along the way I would gladly welcome. I'm very much a newbie into this online art world.
I really like your paintings and style of work by the way!

I have read and do hereby acknowledge yiu as our benevolent tyrant forever and ever LOL, I am very new to the computer world so if it seems as though I am not responding, it is only due to my "clicking around" to try and find the right place to go.Thank you, Dixie

Thanks Talya for inviting me into the painterly group. Not everything I do is plein air or exceptionally loose but most of my work is not what one would considered polished. Even paintings that look quite realistic are an illusion as they are mainly random in their approach. I prefer to see the more expressive brushwork and texture in painters so I hope to see more with your group.
@David, absolutely! Realism is a complete illusion. Yes, expressive brushwork is and texture is very much what I'm hoping to encourage. I feel it gives a richer "tone" to the voice of the artist. Thank you for stopping by. I've been watching you for ages, so I hope you'll find the time to interact with us a bit.
@Jovica, I'm so excited you signed. Your work will fit it soooo well here.
WOOT!!!
If any of the group are interested in historical painterly artists, look to the Group of Seven. I am originally from Canada and the Canadian artists collectively known as Group of Seven were our painter heros. One artist in particular was Tom Thomson who was almost a purely plein air painter. He set the bar for the others to follow. Just copy this link and paste it into your browser. What an amazing painter
https://www.google.com/search?q=Tom+Thomson+group+of+Seven&hl=en&safe=off&tbo=u&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ei=fmkiUYDdKI762AWS1IGwCg&ved=0CGoQsAQ&biw=1315&bih=929
As a young artist back in the 1950's the Seven were my guiding light. I never copied their work or style but they were an inspiration.
Yay!! Two more!
David thanks so much for the links!! I'm looking forward to diving in. It would be fun to start a discussion on our inspiring painterly artists! I have many but tend to be drawn to the Russians, Nicolai Fechin, and Sergei Bongart
And love the works of current master zhiwei tu.
Yes, Sergei Bongart is a good choice. Just wish there was more visual evidence of his body of work.

Hi Talya!
The last days I was traveling quite a lot - Bucharest - Paris - Lyon - so it was a bit difficult to me to spend a peaceful moment on FAA...:)
As you know, I've been reading the policies and I built up my mini-gallery....I really think you're doing a fantastic job with this group!
Thanks also for sharing the links about how FAA works, really appreciated (especially the one about how to change text properties and html links ;)

@Emona, so glad you are back and now I can feature you amazing works! :)
@Margaret, glad to have you aboard! :)
Two more one the "goodies" ship. woohooo! :)
Hi Talya (and others!)
I've had a site on FAA for a couple of years now, but I must admit, I don't know about half the stuff you are talking about here. I am currently on a trip down south (Louisiana and Mississippi...I came "home" for Mardi Gras and to see my mother who has Alzheimer's), but I'll be back to my real home in Colorado soon. I will try to learn how to make the mini-gallery. I have no idea how. Anyway, thanks for running such a great group! I know it take a LOT of time, and I do so appreciate it!
Becky, atta girl! Thank you, and welcome.
Margaret, take care, this is a helpful group and we are more than happy to answer questions. The Mini galleries are not required. They are a promotion tool meant for your benefit. You are welcome to participate at any level that is comfortable, as long as you check in on the policies on occasion. :)
Supper! Two more on the good list, we are almost at 50%!! Not too shabby. :)
This is a great group. Tayla, you put so much time and effort into keeping this group at the superior level that it is. I have read your policy many times and am trying to follow your rules as best as I can understand them. I still cannot figure out how to do a mini gallery or to delete the paintings from the rejected column so it can go back onto the add to group area. I totally agree with your policy.
Hi Tayla, just joined this wonderful group and finished reading above. I am very impressed to see how much efforts you are taking on this. Thank you so much.

@Lucia, you are doing very well! I am adding an image from you here and there as I remember to, so you will see them slowly disappear from the "rejected" tab. Take your time, ready the instructions as you have the time to do so, I am completely on your side. :)
@Dipali, thank you very much, I look forward to seeing your work. :)

My attempt at levity...is it working? I apologise if I have offended. While this is an awesome and amazing group, it won't be for everyone. I am not a believer in one-size-fits-all. I'm also a rather a sensitive soul, and by nature try to please everyone. and there is simply no way I can make everyone in FAA or in the group happy. I insist on THE RULES in order to keep things fair and upfront.
Being a group admin is a tougher job that I expected. LOL, they should really have a courtesy warning "be prepared to give up your first born, might be hazardous to your career, family life and health" LOL. I get A LOT of either cranky emails or personal requests, or people not understanding basic things. I don't mind the others, but I don't like good folks getting cranky with me when I've been completely up front, and it brings out the tyrant in me.
so! That is my rant for the morning...carry on...live long and prosper. I have three more members to add to our wall of fame...HOOORAY!!!

Our most likely violation is due to limitations in groups which do not have the limits in the title.
Have found this true among the majority of members in our groups. In one group sometimes was getting a dozen or more images. Even when I sent emails to notify members of the limits, sometimes once a week. People simply forget which have them and which do not, when they belong to more than 100 groups. (Have one who said they belong to over 1200! )
Then a friend suggested we put the limit in the Title. In a group with over 800 members, getting some days over 2000 submissions per day, put LIMIT 1 DAILY in the title. That worked, submissions dropped to about 150 per day (some stated they would only enter 1 a week.) But, now it seems FAA has changed the menu, shortening the length of the name display... which defeats the purpose of adding the limit...
Now am getting more violations of the limits... The only solution, would be to use the same limit set in the group menu, to limit the number from the Edit menu... Have no idea if that can even be done.... 8=(

Hi Talya,
I like your firm rules, and the fact that you have the power to REJECT. Too many groups don't even follow their own criteria.

Greetings,
I joined this group a few days back and my applications was rejected but I did not notice that I was suppose to reply here after reading the rules... sorry about that.. so here it is, I am responding. I must have missed it somehow. In any case, I would like to join the group--I don;t get hurt if you reject my images at all since that makes me learn. I am looking forward to participating and growing.
Thanks,

Talya, I have a question. You wrote at the end of the rules "You can also edit your posts in order to group images together for a tidier look!" but I have yet to figure out how to do that... I dislike how I posted my mini gallery first few images but haven't the clue how to tidy it up... is there a guide anywhere on FAA you can help guide me to? You are thanking "Linda" but try as I may, I cannot find any info on what you are thanking. =/ I am not known to be the most observant person in the world when it comes to logic... :(
11 Years Ago
I love the title and emphasis on the painterly style of this group. I have come across those who look for a painting that "looks just like a photograph". For me, if it looks just like the photo, you may as well frame the photo. I think the painterly style adds the artist's hand and interpretation to what the artist is feeling about what he or she paints- which is the essence of being a painter.
That is true in terms of one's taste Pamela. There is much to be said about the olden time realists. I admire those forms of art that are paintings but look like a photo as well as photos that look like paintings and everything in between. They are all art.
I suppose it is a question of taste.
Before photographs existed, having a painting look like a photo was highly prized. I am not sure if those values have changed for everyone. :) Me being one of them.
I do enjoy complete abstract and impressionistic styles as well as realist. My particular favorites are at the two ends of the spectrum: Dali and Van Gogh.
Dali had a mixture of all styles and moved them into the surreal. I visited his gallery in Spain and was shocked at some of his works that are not known to the public at all.... I had to purchase a suitcase and pay extra money for shipping by plane the catalog book I purchased there so now I have a copy of almost all of his works.. too heavy for me to even lift it.. giving new meaning to coffee table art book... :) Some of his originals are like pure photos.. others are like holographs--some of those are well known and others you would not even think of it having been done by Dali at all.
I also visited the gallery of Van Gogh in Amsterdam and was just as much taken by his many styles! One picture--a realist of Almond Blossoms--has inspired many of my photos as well as my paintings. The painting itself could pass for a photo today.
I am a believer that art cannot be judged but appreciated or not appreciated. :) It is highly subjective.
welcome Paul and Pamela!
Angela, to answer your question about the mini gallery. On the left hand side of your discussion (the mini gallery) ther is a link called "edit this post" you can edit each of your posts that way by adding, deleting, and enlarging images. The links above will guide you through resizing and customizing (fonts, sizes etc.)

Ah! Thanks Talya! I am heading over to check that out. Never noticed... but then I am famous for not noticing anything.. my husband often muses how on earth I have ever become a photographer and painter! I never see anything right in front of my nose. :)

Hi Talya! Most sincere apologies...........I missed the "must read" disclosure...........It was only in bright red and underlined................ so I missed it. I am usually pretty good at observing rules, so if I screw up, let me have it. I appreciate your invitation! Thank you, Bob

Great guidelines. I appreciate the effort to keep the images and photography of paintings professional to give visitors/collectors confidence in the quality of the paintings and the group. It helps everyone to have these types of guidelines in place.
A quick question Talya. The rules state one picture a day but for some reason the day counts when you decide to accept or not rather than when I last submitted a picture. So sometimes I cannot submit anything for days. I wonder if the problem is on my end and I am not doing something right or if you have it set specifically that way. I have no problems with either just want to understand how the system works.
Hugs,
Angela
Mary, welcome!
Angela, I have no control over the default submission criteria. All I do is set it for one a day. Sometimes, in spite of that I get more than one a day from an artist (sometimes many more). Then there is the opposite, where days go by and the system doesn't let an artist submit for days. ve run into this myself, and I have no idea why. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Larry, you are all good! :)
Thanks Talya for the explanation. I had no idea how complex being an admin is actually! In another group the admin did not see my pictures at all and somehow she dug one out and all of a sudden a pending art group of like 10 popped into her basket.. lol... so yes, I understand (she is an awesome writer by the way and I was falling off the chair in laughter how she explained what happened). I am also glad to learn how complex it is since I just started a group for finger painters with iPad or equivalent touch devices. :) so I guess I will be asking you a lot of questions (if you don't mind!).
Hope you are having a great day!
Angela

Thank you Talya, the rules and regulations all are excellently thought out and I agree to all:)

I figured out Kalya what is happening and I have never seen that before... something is really weird. I submitted a photo 3 days ago and you admitted it in the gallery 2 days ago. So now in trying to add another picture for pending your approval, I still cannot because I get the message that I need to wait for 24 hours between submission--which clearly has passed. But what I noticed is that it (FAA or the computer or little green men from the red planet) changed the date of submission for a picture that has been in the gallery for already for 2 days to being just submitted for pending today!
I am simply not able to submit paintings at all to your group. Does this happen to others within your group too? Or is it just me... based on my traffic experience today (whichever way I wanted to go the traffic suddenly came to a complete stop and parking lot) it may just me.. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
11 Years Ago
LOl, this particular incident is ME. I was going through featuring recommended images, and accidentally press the wrong button on your image. There is no "are you sure" when you press the wrong button and poof, you beautiful image was rejected. So I went into rejected images to re scoop it back up, and had no idea it would interfere with you submitting an image today, My apologies....try tomorrow? There's honestly nothing I can do.

thank you Talya. Sorry for the lateness of my reply. I am a case manager at a hospital by day and artist by night so it took me awhile to ready everything thoroughly. I have submitted a painting for review.

In the future, if you don't want notifications, be sure to uncheck "please notify me via e-mail..." At the bottom of the discussion thread, you are participating in. 10 Years Ago
Lorrie, so sorry to see you go. It may seem complicated, but you'll catch on pretty quick. This is a wonderful group with talented artists who are very supportive of each other-please reconsider😊
10 Years Ago
Welcome Sandy!
I sent Lorrie and PM asking her to reconsider. There is a little button on the bottom of this page that says "please notify me via e-mail when someone replies to this discussion". The button is checked by default (unfortunately) which means that if you don't manually uncheck it, you get notified of THE RULES every single time someone check in!!! It's rather problematic and I'm not sure how to resolve it. new members, and those unfamiliar with the forums and online social networking get frustrated thinking that I am continually hounding them, (which is very unlike me)....sigh...

Hi Talya, I am new to FAA and don't really like to comment unless I really have something to say. That said, I decided to look around at the website and other artists a little more, read your posts and a few others. I always like to think I need to get back to work but I found myself spending a lot of time here, just wondering and realizing this is much more than a place of commerce. There are people here I might have a lot in common with, and others who if not are inspiring! Thanks for that little push. I may still remain silent in the corner, but you can rest assured I will be back.

I am not sure why I keep getting this email because I read the rules and replied. You even welcomed me. Is this a blanket email and one I should expect to see?
Hi Carol! You are getting the email because there is a little box on this thread that says "please notify me via email when someone replies to this discussion" that is checked by default. That means every time someone comment here you get an email. It can certainly be a hassle!! In your email, there should be a button or link that instructs you in "unsubscribing." To keep the volume down on your emails, I recommend that whenever you reply in an FAA discussion you uncheck that little box at the end.

Thanks for the information in a clear and understandable way. I am interested in joining this group because of Talya Johnson's apple demo in the traditional 7 layer method. That is my method of choice and have several paintings to share demonstrating that process. Well the finished paintings. You, Dan, Mentioned - mentioning the apple demo and Talya could also include other paintings completed in that 7 layer method for others to see similar results. Once I see I am accepted, I will post one a day for several days.
My paintings are for sale, but they are on display in Holland Street Gallery in Bellville, TX. I do not sell originals outside of the gallery.
Thank you for consideration of my art in your group.
Here is the link to my Flemish Gallery. Notice my steps (as a demo) of the polo horses painting in that gallery.

Have been away from FAA for a while, revisiting "The Rules," Thank you for such a nice group of true art.

Hi.
I read the rules, and will re-read, in order to better understand the mini gallery.
Thank you for starting and sustaining this group.
Are Tayla and Painted Ladies the same person?
Welcome Bevery!! Talya is one of the three Painted Ladies, Inc. officers. Karen Whitworth and Karen Mattson are the other two. Most of the time it's me (Talya/Tali) who administers to this group, but when I'm traveling or unavailable Karen Whitworth does my duties under PLI profile. Good question :)

Voting. I have asked this question of others, but received no answer.Commenting, favoriting, and adding artworks to watchlist are easy to do. How does one vote ( other than in a contest)? Thanks

In one place the rules say one image per day and in another they say three images per day ? I do don't know how to post the rules in their eintirity from my android.
Patricia, I'm new here, but I think the one per day pertains to submission to the group, and the tree per day pertains to submission to discussions. I could be wrong, but that is what I perceived.
Still don't understand voting

I understand. I know I have entered more than one today and I apologize.I am so busy with painting that I rarely get on here to submit my work so have to do it more than one at a time. I understand totally that you will delete the images; I hope not me. ThankS

Welcome Patricia and Beverly! Yes for a while I considered lifting the one-per-day rule for submitting into this group, but it is just not feasible to maintain the group that way. I apologize for the inconvenience. I have been the administer to this group for several years now, and I like keeping it slow and steady. Many of our members usually do really well in sales.
As to how to vote, there is no way to vote outside of contests. But you can always like, pin, fav, share. For featured works I like, fav, pin, and comment. I hope that helps.
Hi Carol, it's completely understandable. For those who don't submit more than one on a regular basis, I often accept their images, but not usually one after the other. There are exceptions. But those who regularly submit more that one, I regularly reject one image. You are always free to re-submit.

I am still figuring out how this all works, but I'm guessing I' cant be a member until I reply to THE RULES . I will try to remember them as I find my way along.

Hi Talya,
Would love to join your group. I would have much to learn to follow your structure, but I love to learn new things? Your rules are very ethical and promote confidence.
How do I join?
Patricia Lynn
And I agree with your rules!

Hi Patricia! You are more than welcome to join! From this page, click on the home tab. Then click on the button that says join, right under the Painted Ladies Inc logo. I look forward to seeing your work :)

I understand the guidelines. I do believe a lot of my work is painterly because I am constantly covered with paint!

I just tried to post a new painting to my discussion thread but saw that it was closed. Will you please reopen it? I apologize for not having been so active as I have been in the past. I have been dealing with many difficult issues, including my health. My recent cancer surgery atop of my multiple sclerosis seems to have gone well. I am trying to tip toe back into the world of art again. I have missed everyone.
I'm looking forward to understanding all this .Even though Ive been here for years some of the concepts and instructions are a whole new world of experience for me .I am also very much looking forward to seeing what posts the group shares and becoming a part of the interaction ( when time allows ) if I am permitted to join .All seems very intense , very interesting and also useful to participants

Welcome new members! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate those who take the time to read and follow our rules, even when I have had to take long absences for m schooling. This summer, I plan on getting us back up and running. :) ~Tali

Why do I keep getting this? I have read it and replied several times.
It is annoying to keep getting this, and it doesn’t make sense to be so repetitive.

Read the rules, as an artist who displayed in galleries and shows I appreciate when fine art is restricted to fine art.
Read it, makes sense, I will apply to the group and endeavor to remember all the rules. Thanks!

Read it and understand it. Appreciate all the work that went into it and all the work it must take to keep this group going. Will do my best to remember all the rules if you'll have me- I'm not sure if my colored pencil paintings and graphite drawings are acceptable? I like to think my work is painterly. I spend many hours creating each piece and it's all my work created with my hands using traditional mediums but not necessarily paint on canvas.

You are a funny girl Tayla Johnson!!!! OK, read the rules because I honestly don't like torture or anything medieval like that but do enjoy a group for serious painters who are trying to make a living out of something they love and cannot live without!!!!!! Thank you for the info and especially thanks your for your very VIP valuable time!!! Misha

Have read the rules many times since joining the group in 2013. I hate the fact that many art shows are becoming craft shows this year other than showing in galleries I only participated in one show that was only for original works of art. Thanks for keeping the group real.

Thanks, Phyllis, I hope my works are appropriate, because the standard here is very high, admirable, and I'd be honoured to join.
Submission today: 24/10/18.........first one......

Phyllis, I read the rules that were very clear to understand. I will do my best to remember them all. I have mainly worked in watercolor and soft pastel for the past few years, but am getting back into oils again. I was wondering if pastels can be included in this group as they are not paint. Thank you for your time and support. :-)
