Heartsinking. Yellow leaf on the surface of an old pond full of drowned leaves. This is the autumn season. The season of priming for a dreamless sleep. This beautiful piece of art is intended for watching and sighing for the old days of summer, old days of life. But if you are not in the mood to sigh deeply and pathethically you can erect a mast on the board of this yellow ship, set sail and go for autumn adventures. I am personally is in the mood for the first but really prefer the second. And do remember that the heart sinks every time before the rapid takeoff. So, let us wish this brave yellow ship good sailing. No items of flora and fauna were harmen in the making of this masterpiece, though the weather was disturbed badly. You are free to buy this awesome piece of fine art or leave it alone in the cold winds of the Internet. You may choose the second, I am prefer the first.

Samhain is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the "darker half" of the year. It is celebrated from sunset October 31st - sunset November 1st.(Halloween)
In much of the Gaelic world, bonfires were lit and there were rituals involving them, as at Beltane. People and their livestock would often walk between two bonfires as a cleansing ritual, and the bones of slaughtered livestock were cast into its flames.[2] Samhain (like Beltane) was seen as a time when the "door" to the Otherworld opened enough for the souls of the dead, and other beings, to come into our world. Feasts were had, at which the souls of dead kin were beckoned to attend and a place set at the table for them. It has thus been likened to a festival of the dead. People also took steps to protect themselves from harmful spirits, which is thought to have led to the custom of guising. Divination was also done at Samhain.
In this work I have tried to get the feeling of the spirits coming through. I have a subliminal christian cross across the middle to represent the repression of the old religions also.

Hi, Merlyn! Thanks for this opportunity.
These 2 fairly new car shots are now among my top 10 personal faves.
This is from my “Asphalt Nebula” gallery (digitally enhanced oil stains on wet pavement)
This is the LDS temple in Oakland, CA. There was a lot of late afternoon haze and a curved jet contrail. I converted the image to faux infrared and adjusted the values to bring out the really bright area bounded by the contrail so it looks like a planet looming in the background. The whole thing is fairly noisy, which adds to the dreamy quality. At least, to me….

One thing I love but have never been much good at is golf. Like any sport you need to put agreat deal of time and effort into it to get 'good' at it. You need to make sacrifices so your sport can shine. The same goes with painting which I have put a lot of time and effort into over the past 30 years. Like any sport I am continuing to learn and hone any skills developed. Here's to the next painting. Maybe I can make it better than the last one!

"to live in this world
you must be able
to do three things
to love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go"
 Mary Oliver
Black Eyed Susan. She is a tower of simplicity. Frank has vowed to never love a woman, to never love in "that kind of way." But Susan taunts him. She dances above him in the garden, singing her songs, gently stroking his solid shoulders. But he stays strong - strong as statue- focused on his commitment. He feeds the birds. The squirrels dart in and around them. He smiles, I do believe, at Susan from time to time. But she comes and goes with the seasons...and he remains...ever faithful, every true.
Cowchina: Inspired by my love of Southwestern Native American Culture...and Cows.
A KACHINA is a spirit being in western Pueblo cosmology and religious practices. The western Pueblo, Native American cultures located in the southwestern United States, include Hopi, Zuni, Tewa Village (on the Hopi Reservation), Acoma Pueblo, and Laguna Pueblo.
A COW is a cow.
She made her nest among the moss, this mother of four. She went to search for food. She has to eat, even though there is danger. She cannot ignore her self. She cannot ignore her children. There in lies the dilemma.
We are daisies. We are alive. Watch us. We move through the day. We hide in the winter. We call living things to play beneath us, on us, with us. And you think we are simple. Look again.

My first (and still my favorite) piece, ink and colored pencil on paper. Original size 18x24. I created this piece for my husband as a birthday present. He was incredibly surprised when I presented it to him and absolutely loved it!

This is a beautiful peacock painting, took forever. for some reason I am unable to copy the link from the art page and have to do it on the preview page. usually right click brings up the copy menu, but for me, on this site, it does nothing.

I am stunned by such creativity in this thread, and so varied. It's hard to take you all in. Unique in so many ways.
Congratulations to everyone here. For painters "Keep the brush full and the paint flowing"
for those photographers in the thread. "Photographers are cruel. First they shoot you, then hang you on the wall"
