Andreas Thust is an Austrian artist living in Cologne, Germany. He is an internationally renowned and award winning physicist, whose scientific publications have been cited more than thousand times ... Nevertheless, his curiosity and engagement are not limited to science, but extend with the same intensity into the hemisphere of emotions, relationships, and phantasy, in short: to the things which are attributed to the right half of the brain. And he is a spiritual person, however not bound to a confession or movement, but following his own inner sources.
Andreas Thust works with two techniques: The first one is photography, which needs no further explanation. The second one is digital raytracing, a computer technique, which he describes as follows: 'At the beginning there is an idea or vision. Then the vision is translated into a computer model. Finally, the paths of millions of light rays, which travel from a light source via the virtual object to the eye of the observer, are calculated pixel-by-pixel using mathematical formulas.' Although this sounds all very technical, the outcome of his work is refreshingly non-technical.
