Karen Wiles - Fine Artist
In a world that seems to be all about doing and going, stress, glitz, glamour, noise, sound bites, and 'heebie-jeebies,' to spend some time with Karen Wiles' photographs feels like a breath of fresh air...a place to be. It may be calm, but it isn't boring. And best of all, its REAL because the artist is real. For Karen, it's not about the technical know-how and tricks, but about creating an emotional reaction. Karen has her own unique way of seeing, that reflects in her work and creates an intensity that many other artists may not succeed in achieving.
Karen Wiles' artistic appreciation began early in life. She grew up with an artistic Mother who still remains a prominent artist. Karen entered an exhibit and sold her first artwork at age 12. This began her lifelong love affair with art, not only her own, but the artistic expression of other artists as well. Karen designed a National Coast Guard poster at age 16 that was used as an enlistment advertisement, and she went on to win 'Artistic Student of the Year,' for the entire state of Virginia.
Karen has won several artist's awards in different media forms, including charcoal, sculptures, pastels, screen printing, and also taught classes in Stained Glass for several years in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. Most recently, Karen received an award for her photograph 'Dawn of New Year' in the WAA's Juried Spring Art Competition in Wilmington, North Carolina. This print and others have won many art competitions this year in various competitions. Karen's work is displayed in galleries, estates, banks, offices, hospitals, spas, and wellness centers as well as Fine Art America and other internet venues.
Karen's favorite piece of artwork at present is her 'Dawn of New Year,' with her 'Tranquility Below' running a close second...
'In the case of Karen's image entitled 'Dawn of New Year,' the meaning is found simply in the sheer beauty of this world. This is probably her best known and biggest contest winner so far. There are no words necessary to embellish this photo. It speaks for itself.' L.S. Pueblo, CO.
Karen most recently was chosen as a winner and signed a contract with a national cell phone company to submit her photography for use on cell skins as well as scenic wallpapers for phones, along with other products.
Also this year she has granted national singer and songwriter Kara McGraw the rights to use some of her photography for Ms. McGraw's upcoming albums which feature her latest hit 'Chandelier' to be released in 2012,and can presently be seen on UTube, ITunes, and Facebook.
Mrs. Wiles has also consented her work to be published this year in Holland America's 'Mariner' magazine, 'Artists, Writers, & Photographers In the Raw Magazine,' several newspapers in North Carolina, and Florida, and many of which are circulated throughout the United States, and abroad.
