Inaugural Wrightsville Beach Plein Air Event

February 16th, 2015 - Wilmington, NC

Inaugural Wrightsville Beach Plein Air Event

Thirty en plein air artists from around the region descended on Wrightsville Beach Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10-11, to capture scenes around the island for the inaugural Wrightsville Beach Museum of History en plein air art show and wet paint sale.

Early Friday morning, painters including Christopher Reid, Tesh Parakh and Sue Bark set up their easels to begin working.

Reid, who recently returned to the area, was located just east of the Kenan Creek Bridge, looking out onto the marsh in the heart of Harbor Island. Reid said he did not have a plan where he would paint.

“I didn’t plan ahead where I was going to paint because the light changes all the time so I wanted to go with what was good at the moment,” Reid said. “The sun was just coming up. I got that on there before it changed too much.”

While many of his contemporaries would choose to paint with oils, Reid said he enjoyed using pastels and watercolors.

“I am using pastels because nobody else...

Painter Drew Noel Marin Debut

H E L L O my name is Drew, I am an artist native to Rochester, Michigan, and currently living in Sarasota, Florida. My childhood was great. I was surrounded by artists where creativity was always encouraged. Having an artistic atmosphere led me to becoming a cosmetologist after high school. But the more I painted on peoples hair and face the more I realized I missed painting! My paintings are in essence my emotions of my adventures and experiences. I use color and texture, and experiment with them to find out what makes me feel happy. I work mainly with acrylics on canvas. I hope you find something here that inspires you! If you have any questions or comments feel free to let me know, thanks for stopping by!!! :)

The Tale Of Chrestto By Anabelle Gonzales

The Tale Of Chrestto By Anabelle Gonzales

The Tale of Chrestto- first novel written by artist and author, Anabelle Gonzales is now officially published.

Fiction

Romance/Fantasy

In every great story, comes a great conflict. It was a summer love in the beautiful shores of Noirest beach. Hadred Dufres and Nhesa Zaldana fell in love despite of it all. They had promised to be together. She left everything for him while Hadred made his choice. Yet destiny had decided a path for both of them-- to become a Chrestto.

Chrestto is a face abhorred by many and chosen by few. Its mystery is unfathomable even to those who seek for answers. To those who have learned to surrender, such face comes with a higher price.

Set in an entirely new and different world where people can fly and grow things through magic, The Tale of Chrestto is an epic fantasy novel written by Anabelle Aguisanda-Gonzales. The story began when Hadred, a half-horse half-man fell in love with Nhesa- a flying maiden from the east. Their...

Bringing Art To Historic Downtown An Autistic Savant Artist Welcomes Possibilities With Centralized Gallery

February 16th, 2015 - Kent, WA

Bringing Art To Historic Downtown An Autistic Savant Artist Welcomes Possibilities With Centralized Gallery

Globally renowned for his work, local artist Michael Tolleson wants to be more recognized in Kent.

Looking for a storefront gallery and the opportunity to become closer to the community, Tolleson found it in historic downtown Kent.

Tolleson, a self-taught autistic savant artist, moved his Seattle gallery to the Kent Business Center a year ago. But Tolleson wanted something more accessible and centrally located.

With help from the Kent Downtown Partnership and mayor's office, the artist found it.

The Michael Tolleson Savant Art Center, at 205 First Ave. S., recently opened to the public. City and business leaders joined Tolleson and his partner, Jack Carl Anderson, also an autistic artist, for a launch party Dec. 22.

"We're trying to bring more art into Kent," Tolleson said. "We want to bring more interactive art to Kent. We want to revitalize the feeling of the street. ... We need art to touch lives."

Tolleson's career has blossomed in such a...

Park Central Hotel Installation

The lead designer of the hotel's renovation found inspiration with its location at the epicenter of New York City. You will notice design touches throughout that pay subtle homage to the lushness of Central Park, as well as other renowned cultural venues within a 3-block radius. The project was such a personal one that Jeffrey Beers, of Jeffrey Beers International, called it "A Love Letter to New York City".

My image: Picnic Perspective was installed in the hotel lobby in the summer of 2013.

Richard Cheski A Passion For Photography

Richard Cheski A Passion For Photography

Richard Cheski: A Passion for Photography

BY DAYNA WINTERS ON FEBRUARY 14, 2015

An undeniable love of photography emerges from the work of 47 year-old, Richard Cheski. A gifted photographer/cinematographer, his passion is born of his appreciation for working with color, light, and movement. He favors shooting long exposures, colorful subjects, and panoramic captures versus standard Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLr) images. He shoots residential and commercial architectural photography for real estate, and, currently, he is working on a snowboarding documentary.

Cheski grew up on the scenic island of Oahu, Hawaii, near Waikiki Beach. Now he resides with his wife of two years, Jen, in Orange County, California. When not working as a full-time professional artist, Richard volunteers as a photography instructor at the Boys and Girls Club in southern Orange County: There he finds great reward when students foster their photography interests. Richard offers the...

Nicholas Grunas On King Kong In Detroit

Nicholas Grunas On King Kong In Detroit

DETROIT, MI - News of plans for a "King Kong: Skull Island" movie shot and set in Detroit has given some unexpected attention to a local artist who is a fan of the legendary ape.

Nicholas Grunas, 37, from southwest Detroit, created four one-of-a-kind, doctored up prints last fall as a fun way to celebrate a "Throwback Thursday" contest on a website.

Each shows King Kong terrorizing different parts of Detroit ranging from the Book Cadillac Hotel and Wurlitzer Building to Ford Field and Jefferson Avenue near the Renaissance Center.

These prints, based on actual photos of the city, are starting to go viral and have Grunas fired up to see the film that will reportedly star Michael Keaton, J.K. Simmons and Tom Hiddleston.

"I didn't plan on doing any more," Grunas told MLive.com. "But with the news of the movie being shot in my hometown, I just might have something up my sleeve."

You can check out all of Grunas' King Kong vs. Detroit work in the photo...

New Group, FightForTheFuture - Net Neutrality

February 15th, 2015 - El Cerrito, CA

New Group, FightForTheFuture - Net Neutrality

We Americans are fighting to keep the Internet as it is. We now have 4 or 5 million Americans who are almost daily calling the FCC, Chairman Tom Wheeler, and members of Congress and President Obama at Whitehouse.gov to protest the actions of Congress people who take graft money from the big telecom companies, and whether their constituents like it or not, vote to end the Internet as we know it. President Obama is now electing to work to overturn Citizens United in the Supreme Court, which is responsible for the take over of the American government by big corporate money. This sounds like a lot of hooey, and there are emails out there from the non democratic party which say exactly the opposite. Where artists are concerned, it's best to stay out of politics otherwise we will never get anything done. On the other hand, social commentary through art, political posters, and graphic statements by artists have often had an effect on educating those who disbelieve in such as I am saying. I...
