JOIN THE LOWBROW ART GROUP
Lowbrow, or lowbrow art
describes an underground visual art movement that arose in the Los Angeles, California, area in the late 1970s. It is a populist art movement with its cultural roots in underground comix, punk music, and hot-rod cultures of the street. It is also often known by the name pop surrealism. Lowbrow art often has a sense of humor - sometimes the humor is gleeful, sometimes impish, and sometimes it is a sarcastic comment.
Most lowbrow artworks are paintings, but there are also toys, digital art, and sculpture.photo,
Vancouver, BC - "Lantern by the Cavern" is a surreal medieval fantasy digital portrait painting of a mysterious woman kneeling in a patch of flowers in the woods.
Strapped to her back is a simple, yet exotic sword. An ancient weapon from a distant land.
This woman is a warrior and a seeker. A hunter and a hermit. A character who is unusual, and undeniably beautiful.
Waiting near the shadows of the cavern's craggy mouth, and kneeling in a patch of wildflowers, she glances off into the distance. This is to be her last good memory. Her last glance at the life she has known for so long. Her last chance to turn back.
Within the blackness of the nearby cave dwells her worst fears.
She has decided to face her demons.
The little lantern will be the light that guides her through her nightmare. The memories of goodness and of hope.

Amsterdam, No - Elizabeth Hoeveler (ASC) commenting Immo Jalass's artworks
How many dimensions can we see? Three, on a 'normal day. On a 'normal' day, however, I might
be fooled into thinking I'm somewhere else - or many other places at the same time, while looking
at Immo Jalass's digital offerings. I can cross dimensions and have a foot in several. I can extend
the one dimension I'm in and reshape it to my wish. I can focus on a fruit color and have that color
move back or forward out of the fruit bowl. Immo Jalass makes us realize what scientific minds
have been talking about for years - If I were teaching Quantum Physics this would be part of my
tutorial - even the sleepiest student would be galvanized into realizing that, not only is this art,
but quantum textbook illustrations of 'leaping ' exercises. Look at these pictures, the math can
come later. Like someone learning music - hear the songs, play the songs and learn the sheet
Amsterdam, No - Dario Rutigliano: (ARTiculAction) interviewing Immo Jalass
Dario Rutigliano: (1) Hello Immo, and a warm welcome to ARTiculAction. I would start this interview with my usual introductory question: what in your opinion defines a work of Art? By the way, what could be in your opinion the features that mark an artwork as a piece of Contemporary Art?
Immo: My definition of an art work in general combines the criteria Idea, Object/subject and techniques in it's quality while contemporary art is always spacetime bound, the space time it was or is made in.
Dario Rutigliano: (2) As a basically self-taught artist, what did you find to be the biggest challenges to improving your work through the years of your long career? In particular, are there any experience that has impacted on you and on your development as an artist?
Immo: The missing of my father in the first 8 years because of the beginning of world war 2 that caused a now slowly ending for some...

Imagine celebrating the Holidays from the fantastic world of San Francisco on the Embarcadero just outside the Ferry Building that's being taken over by a surreal family of eclectic circus animals and various assorted wildlife. Then imagine the nostalgic great Laffing Sal born from old fun houses throughout the USA and scattered throughout sunny California beach towns like Santa Cruz, Long Beach, and Santa Monica; and who can forget her raucous laughters echoing from San Francisco's own Playland at the Beach, and now overshadowing Old St Nick's Ho Ho Ho's with her boisterous haunting laughters!? Then toss in Einstein, Einstein? Yes Einstein! Imagine all that while the Navy Blue Angels fly at the speed of sound high atop the San...
