Welcome To Our Family.

The rules? No rules; just an expectation that we all "do unto others." In other words, if you want others to promote your work, you should do the same for them. Those of us who take a full part in promoting ourselves and others try to do so for a 24 hour period or longer if possible. That includes opening the Big Skip and promoting the images in there too.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND HOW WE DO THINGS HERE:

Please use the URL for your image postings, rather than the copy and paste code. Posting the photo itself, rather than a link will make it difficult for people who don't have high speed internet, as well it might cause people to skip over your post without promoting.

Only 1 image is allowed per day, both in this discussion and in the group.

There is NO contest vote solicitation allowed on the discussion boards.

If you are posting nudes, or other questionable images, please post a warning notice with your link. There are children here, as well as adults who choose not to look at that type of image.
Please do not post links from your pixels.com account or any other FAA mirror site. It tends to create problems for some people and most will skip those links.

ABSOLUTELY NO images of nudity, death, cruelty or violence of any kind on the main board, where you have no ability to post a warning.

Finally, JUST HAVE FUN!! This is an incredible group of people who will make you feel welcome from your first post!!

TO ALL NEWCOMERS: I realize that some of you are so new to not only the group, but to FAA, that I thought perhaps a little clarification is in order. I'm sure you've noticed that while we can't require anyone to vote/like anyone elses work, we do tend to treat people the way people treat others. But I also realized that you may not have a clue what we're talking about, so........... to "like" someone's work, you click on their blue link, which opens up that particular piece. In the upper right corner, you'll see a few little icons. One is a thumbs up, which is what you press to "like/vote" for that piece of art. Most of us here press that whether we love the work or not. It's how we help each other to move up in the FAA search standings (even though FAA now says it doesn't count for very much, but that's now past history and it is what it is). That's all we ask of you. Should you choose to do so however, you can also click on the little heart (which is to add a work to your own "favorites" list), and you'll also find buttons for the various social media sites if the artist chooses to activate any or all of those buttons. These are the ways we promote each other. You may also choose to vote/like your own submissions. It's perfectly acceptable to do so.

Here's another article about that "most expensive" photo ever sold, only this one sold for more........ hehehe.... Just remember that it's tongue in cheek though

http://petapixel.com/2014/12/13/artist-jeff-frost-inches-past-recently-set-world-record-expensive-photograph-ever-sold/

So, who wants to pay me 6,5 million plus 25 cents for today's gator shot (see previous thread)?? Or any of mine for that matter. Let the negotiations begin!!

:)

Hi Lins

Hmmmmm. my post above has me thinking. I wonder what would happen if I set my prices at at least 1 million over FAA's markup. Do you think the sales fairy (the rich one I mean) might come a calling?

Anne Rodkin

oooooooooh... what fun!! I just set a price (my markup) of one million dollars on one of my photos. hahaha Can't post the link here though, because I already posted today, but if things set properly, it's now the first photo on my profile page.

Hey, I decided that if I can't make any sales here, I might as well have some fun not selling.......... so there sales fairy!!!

Hello to #61!

@ Anne, I looked at your gator shot and I'm not seeing this stitch you talk of. To me it just looks like a regular gator. Where is this "stitch" at?

Busy day; I'll get back to 60 later. Was at the pool again earlier, but the school district which owns that pool has blocked FAA (along with a host of other web sites, but not C).

Anne Rodkin

Judy, you actually can't see the stitch mark, but there's an area at about the center of the gator that looks kind of weird........that's not it. That's gator, but it's where I thought the stitch line was this morning until I looked at both parts again and realized that isn't it (not even close).

Hello #61.

I confess I have not done any promoting today besides the occasional likes on FB. Been wanting to take some time off the computer. Meant to go out shooting today, but felt uninspired and ended up at a furniture store, looking for a new sofa. That was the highlight of my day.
I will try to get back to promoting (and hopefully going out for a shoot) tomorrow.

PS: Keep the horses, gators and other assorted wildlife coming. I do enjoy those a lot!

PS2: I like the idea of setting one print at a million dollars and seeing what happens :)

Finished #60 and Marker M caught up here. Just Likes & Faves today.

Denise - So sorry about your friend! 22 years ago this week, 2 weeks before Christmas, I was 9 months pregnant with my daughter (who turns 22 the end of this year), our apartment burned up - it was awful - and so scary! We didn't lose everything but were out of our co-op for four months, moved back home a week before my maternity leave ended - it's more than "just stuff" - you really feel unsettled for a long time after losing your home - either temporarily or permanently. Despite the relief and gratefulness that you've survived, the uneasiness that settles in lasts a long time. My sympathies to your friends - what a nightmare!

Just saw The Imitation Game - highly recommend it!

Took a nice long hike today - it was a beautiful day - and took some pix at the John Jay Homestead, even saw some chickens there, then came home to find a huge buck lying in our yard. He got up and hobbled off slowly with one leg in the air, toward the main road, then sat down again. We called the police and they sent an officer over. As soon as my husband and the officer approached him, he took off. The cop called him Tripod and said it was on old injury, the poor thing has been managing like that for a while. It was dark so no pix - unlike that gorgeous one you took Pamela! Keep those wildlife pix coming - horses, gators, deer, birds, etc.

Bill Gallagher

I can see FAA promoting your image big time Anne as they stand to make a boatload of money when it sells.

Seriously though, has anyone here ever seen an add or promotion directly from FAA? I don't recall ever seeing one. Maybe I'm reading the wrong stuff or watching the wrong television program.

Went to my company Christmas party last night and won a GoPro. I'm not big on video but this could be a fun toy.

Belinda, I got the dreaded 404 on your link.

I'll stop back in shortly.

Anne Rodkin

Hey, if anyone is crazy enough to pay that price, I've got a bunch of friends I'd be happy to share a little of the wealth with.

Now I'm wondering if I have the highest priced item on FAA. I hope you guys will promote it on other sites. :D Hey, you never know who's looking, right?

And where is Tutu these days? He'd better bring that Lear back if SteRa and I have to fly somewhere to deliver our art.

Anne Rodkin

Thinking about that guy who allegedly "sold" the most expensive photo in the world; I suppose if I were to change my listing price to $6.5 million plus 25 cents, I would then take the title if I were willing to pay the discounted rate for buying my own item?? Using the million I set for that photo as an example, a 40 x 60 inch metal print would only cost me $236.58 (plus any applicable shipping). Interesting concept, huh?

Marianne Campolongo

Marianne Campolongo

@Lins, me too - guess I missed the pricing LOL.

@Terry, I've been working on stock photos today - processing and keywording power lines and other stuff like that, have a few holiday images selling frequently along with the usual standbys. On target for a record Number of sales at SS this month but mostly @33 cent subs so may not even make it to an average month $-wise if I don't get a lot more ODDs - it hurts when you make 7 sales in a day and only net @2.31, but it does add up over time - those $2 sales add up a lot faster - so fingers crossed for you. Hoping some ELs come through before the end of the month for both of us. Stock sales vary so much $0.33 one day - $300 the next (a far more rare occurrence), but it all adds up I guess. At least on SS I get sales every day so it looks good til I do the math, LOL!

Working on my New Year goals, hoping to go from 300 to 800 images here by 2016 - that's 10 new photos a week which seems manageable. Apparently 800-1000 images is the range where sales become more regular on FAA.
@Joan, as our master saleswoman, with nearly 1000 images, wondering when you saw a big jump in your sales? I know you've been selling well for quite a while now.

Fingers crossed for you million dollar sellers LOL!

Marianne Campolongo

Thanks, Terri - actually what I was asking for those of you with lots of images and decent sales, was at what point (i.e. how many images on FAA) did you start seeing sales pick up?

e.g. About a year or so ago when I reached 200 images I had a nice little surge in sales, not seeing any change between 200 and 300 which I just reached this month. Just wondering the minimum number I need to start expecting monthly sales - I know it's different for everyone but I think that the number of images you have online influences how much of your work gets seen - and if someone sees one image, then they're more likely to look at your portfolio...

Anyway, would love your insights

Marianne Campolongo

Joan, I was typing while you were ... thanks ... how many files did you have online when sales started getting more frequent? And good luck this week!

Joan Carroll

Marianne, I don't know...it wasn't something I was thinking I should pay attention to then. I didn't even think about the number of images being an issue until you all started mentioning it here. Looking at my portfolio now, about 20 from the end was uploaded in March of 2011. Nearly 100 from the end was uploaded in Nove 2011. However, I have deleted a bunch since then, so there's no way to know for sure.

Terry Weaver

I just peeked and I have 254 images here at FAA. I usually doing some "cleaning" after Christmas as I only want to keep my very best stuff. I do the same over at Z. But i never delete before the holiday season as you never know what's going to sell. I've actually sold 14 of the same ornaments over at Z. Something I just threw together one day for my BIL.

Oh crapola...closed the wrong tab and lost my convo!!

There were congrats for sales.

A smart mouthed comment for Anne about commissions.

Another smart mouthed comment for Lins about sales and Kohls (which she would not have understood anyway being from across the pond.

My son loves his GoPro and I once saw an FAA ad on TV.

That I loved that Ellen's granddaughter wanted those special ornaments someday.

That my first sale was immediate...that first week and then it was a year til the next one and then it was me that bought one and then...well it was darn slow!

Spent most of the day away from the computer once I got caught up this morning. Finished up the Christmas shopping and visited the youngest grandchild.

Got home and discovered that the sales fairy had visited me also! Sold two over at the C place today to a collector in New Jersey.

Had to blue line tonight, very sorry. It was a long weekend and didn't end well. We had a missing/endangered man that was last seen on Thursday. The Sheriffs office searched all weekend.........and no luck. Unfortunately he was found late this afternoon in the Ocklawaha River. Very sad.........

On call tomorrow and a doctor's appointment as well. Just a check up, oil change and oiling my joints. Tuesday I get a full eye exam, but I hate having them dilated.........

Hello!!!!

Wow, Joan you are on a roll.

I had my first sale here 3 months after I joined. 8 months for the next one and then at least 1 or 2 every month. 7 sales in 1 month is the best I've had. I have just over 600 images right now.

Lins, I will need a bigger discount to get that photo. I just spent a million on Anne's! LOL Oh wait that was declined by the bank! I guess I can't buy anything.

Have a good night. Loved my art walk tonight.

Oh Bill, Congrats on your GoPro. My grandson has one and loves it.

Lee LOL re Lins ,Kohl's and the greeting card! Congrats on the two C sales! Was wondering how things were going over there. Wish I could join y'all but won't happen very often til someone either fixes my computer or gets me a new one! ( and it's not in the Christmas cards unfortunately!) hope you hd a fun visit with your grandchild.

Making banana bread for the grand kids ,hey love it for breakfast and snacks, and planning what Christmas cookies to make but not til next week or they'll all disappear!

Marianne, I started out this year with a goal to get to 300 images. I was up to265 until I deleted roughly 60 from a private shoot that I never promoted and didn't expect any sales from. I've been on here for a couple of years now and have a sale roughly every month. My biggest worry is to keep the quality up. I'm sure I have at least 30 that I could post but I think I have another 30 I could or should delete.

Goodnight.

Turns out this pillow thing is probably a good thing. While going through pricing my pics I noticed quit a few without any description and many of them with no Pricing for the phone case, not that I would ever expect to sell a $35.00 phone case, not counting S & H. I cases for less than 5 dollars all over the place. More maintenance.

Goodnight again.

Marianne,

I've seen from my observations that having volume does boost your visibility. But I doubt the is much difference between say 100 and 800. But once you get into the multiple thousands then it definitely does. Time to build search engine rank, keywords and general appeal to buyers of a particular image are probably the most important. Have seen plenty of examples of people with less than a few dozen images who have one image thst sells left and right.

Denise Dube

Thank you so much for the kind words for my friend. We are like sisters. Bad thing.. Insurance covers a tiny part of it. Good thing, she just bought it a year ago after adopting 3 children from Africa, so she does not have a lot invested in it as many do who have their homes half way paid off. The inspector was really cool to pull out some of the pictures he found laying around that fell off the wall that we took when she was getting off the plane with her new family. Tears everywhere.

Marianne- wow, what a holiday that season was for you! I am sure it made the good ones that much more special.

Kandy- with your luck, please move out of California.. YOU brought Derek here single handedly! LOL

Anne, you kill me.. However, every curator says you should have at least one high priced shot in your portfolio... lol

I'm with the others Brenda- I am so in love with your mustang pictures.. I really do look forward to them. Not only is it such an endearing subject, but you have the knack/skill to really capture there essence.

Good morning, caught up again...
So sorry Donna and Denise
This was the First time I had a sale with a frame. $6.77 profit off the frame! I do know who the buyers are but only through my son. They saw the original hanging in his house. I was surprised to get a sale..They are a young couple with one child and twins on the way. They just redecorated their bathroom in rustic decor and though of the painting of the barn. I'm a happy camper.
I only have 104 images. Started with less than 20...43 are actually originals, approximately 10 are photographs. Had my first sale on FAA four months after joining. Thanks to Terri Waters, her work and giving me ideas, I have about 40 to 50 in different versions. So for me, I think getting out there personally with the business cards and showing your work whenever possible, hanging them in different places has helped my sales along with all the promoting I get from you guys. Six sales total from strangers, but I have sold many of the sales I have purchased myself here...not counting the sales and commissions form Facebook which is actually gaining on FAA now. The sales fairy told me Joan is wearing her out! She says Joan has some secret power that keeps pulling her to Texas. Fairy Girl herself is not even aware of what the secret is. She says that Reedy had the info of the secret without his knowledge but lost it in Alaska when he turned the Kayak over. Wasn't surprised to hear that.

All caught up! A lot of FBs and some G+ this morning.

Denise, sorry about your friend's house. That sucks. I was in your neck of the woods yesterday shooting from Hilltop Park in Signal Hill. Then also shot the christmas lights at the lake near me. Will be uploading new stuff soon.

Marianne, I too am curious about when people start seeing a jump in sales. I've recently reached the 100+ mark and have a lot more old material, but tend to only want to upload the best of the best. Not sure if that's the best strategy... I think about trying my hand at stock sometimes, but it seems like even more work for no significant return.

Joan, you truly are on fire! I love those macro abstracts you keep posting..I need to try my hand at more of that (I have a macro lens, but tend to gravitate towards landscapes too much).

I also wonder if there's some type of photos that you folks find sell more than others.

I tried looking for Kim in the photo posted, but it's too small on my screen to see much. How are you guys able to see anything at a bigger size than the FAA previews? Is there some kinda trick?

Nadim Baki

How do you search for names on Twitter? When I hit the share from FAA for many of you, I don't know the twitter handle and it kinda sucks having to look names up each time...Is there a shortcut to that?

@Nadim ... I used the full resolution preview to find Kim [aka Waldo].

@Marianne ... 563 images. Joined 6/9/2013; first sale (to someone other than me) 11/8/2013, with a small flurry of holiday sales in December 2013. @Nadim - it's possible to search for your name (without the handle) if your name is left in the tweet from here. You also can search via our lists (you can get people's lists, I have a long FAA one) to see who's tweeting and retweeting, so people can see you've tweeted even without the handles. I just tweeted without using handles - but made sure I added hashtags at the end - since I'm pressed for time and there is no fast way I know of - I have an alphabetical list I saved in Notes that I cut and paste from but this is getting so time consuming so rather than give up I'm going for tweets with hashtags since I'm sure those whose work I've tweeted can find it even if it doesn't show up in their stream.

So, tweeted a bunch without handles and retweeted on my lunch break. Off to the MD. Marker M

@Anne you're way ahead of me. I haven't even gotten a painter and carpenter in yet, never mind a realtor. Hoping to get the place presentable for Christmas company. Good luck with the realtor!

Nadim...You know those lists we all were doing last week? Open yours or subscribe to a good one and open it to members in another tab. then, until you pretty much know most of them, you can check back and forth.
I've never taken the all extra time to look for #myname, but always thank and make sure that I've reciprocated the @myname in the notifications and any that I run across in the feeds.

Lee. Thanks for the info. Yeah, I have my own list. But when I'm at work, I don't have it, and it's definitely a bit tedious looking through it every time I want to tag someone. I am definitely focusing on the hashtags (as Marianne suggested) as that seems more important anyway.
Of course, retweeting is much easier, as I just hit the RT button and it automatically includes the correct @yourname for the art's original author (or at least the original tweeter).

Too funny Lee I was doing the same thing with Tom and Dawn

I need to take the time to alphabetize a Twitter list I'm spending way too much time hunting up and down my list..I can't find Deena on Twitter either

Lee Craig

The only problem with using #nadimbaki versus @nadim_baki is that second way brings people to your page and increases your tweets, retweets and followers and the first doesn't. The people who follow you can get the feed of the folks they follow and what they follow is @nadim_baki.
Unfortunately there isn't usually enough room for both in the tweet or both would be the way to go. Guess it would just be a matter of what you are trying to do with the promotion.

Thanks for clarifying Anne!

So Dawn...which Twitter account do you want tweeted to? :)

Don't think Deena Tweets, Kandy.

Nadim Baki

Yeah, that's the problem Lee. When I meant I was hashtagging, I didn't mean the name, but rather arbitrary keywords.
What I mean is, say I'm promoting one of your abstract pieces from the FAA link (if it was on Twitter, I'd just retweet it), and I didn't know your Twitter handle, I'd tweet the FAA link and then something like #artprints #abstractart etc....
You wouldn't be notified because your Twitter handle wouldn't be in there, but your art would be promoted to all my followers and the general public, and hopefully the #abstractart hashtag would get you on the search engines and so on.
Point being, of course adding @LeeAnnCraig (or whatever your handle is) is better, but I think it only affects whether you're notified or not that I tweeted one of your pieces. More important, I think, is getting your piece out there and having it show up in people's searches, and on my feed for my followers (not that I have all that many, but that's besides the point).

PS: I just re-read your post a second time. I guess I missed the part where having the person's twitter handle correctly would allow viewers to then click it and come to the person's page, thus increasing the audience that way.

Since we're on the topic, let me throw another thing at you all.

I noticed that a lot of tweets do not include a visible image. So unless I click on the link, I'm not going to see the actual image. While I have no problem RTing people's links, I tend to want to see the image, but clicking on each link gets a bit tedious, specially with Twitter being such a fast moving medium.
I've made a point of making sure my tweets of my own art have photos included either by uploading a smaller version of the photo to Twitter directly, my preferred method, or by using the FAA sync (when you upload or edit a photo, it will publish to Twitter, but not when you use the share button on FAA).
I find that when I'm scrolling through pages of tweets, my eyes will automatically gravitate to the ones with photos visible. I suspect our general audience is probably the same.

I prefer uploading my own version of the photos because the FAA approach means I have to go edit the photo in FAA (even if not changing anything) and check the box that says to sync with Twitter. And on top of that, I end up with the way FAA shows photos on Twitter, which is a slightly tilted canvas print (that's often chopped up by Twitter). I'd rather show my photos in their best light, personally, so I prefer uploading myself.

Anyway, sorry for the novel...Just sharing my thoughts on SM as it seems we're all learning as we go.

Sister image to yesterdays - a few steps to the left. Thanks for all your kind comments and support. Re twitter, if I see that someone has tweeted something of mine, I always try to return the favor, but since the tweets sent straight from here don't have my handle, and I'm only on twitter once every day or so, I know I miss a lot. I do check my FAA followers list, but there are so many, and there are lots of people who tweet and retweet ALOT, I could spend hours going back 24 hours on that list! So that's a long winded way of saying thanks to those who include my handle, and I'm sorry to those who don't include my handle, if I missed reciprocating.

Congrats on all those sales - I'd pass the tissues, but my daughter and husband both have bad colds, so we need them around here!

I'm finally caught up...filled out my Christmas cards today, thought I would take a break from painting...then I reorganized all by prints, canvases etc that I just left in the basement after the Santa festival. took all day long, exhausted, so tomorrow, no more breaks, I 'd rather paint. Sorry no hashtags again today.

Caught up on #61, mostly just bluelined. Things are settling down, am starting to feel more sane again, but probably won't be here on a regular basis until after Christmas.

Sorry I didn't catch so much that has been going on. Denise, sorry to hear about your friend's house. Not sure of the details but I know how devastated I was for years after we were broken into. There was only one thing stolen that I still miss 30 years later, a statue that my dad had carved and given to me for my 21st birthday.

I gather Lins and Anne are about to become millionaires! Congratulations in advance.

So time was short today and I tweeted with hashtags and no handles. I'll stick with my alphabetized handle list going forward - I keep it as a Note on my Mac so I can access it anywhere, but cut and paste on an iPhone is a pain.

Marker M

If you're not on twitter I probably commented - everyone got a like and a fave. Doing some retweeting too - no time for G+ today - congrats on sales.

Managed to process and upload a couple of new and old unprocessed photos in between everything else today. When I look at my sales here, a lot of them have also sold on traditional stock sites, so I realize that I can broaden my definition of "fine art" and will probably upload a lot more of the photos I already have that have gone to calendar companies and magazines - doing my year end analysis, I realize that I probably have a few hundred photos ready to go that I should have online. I only want my best here too, but I shoot around 10,000 images a year - a lot of bracketed shots and the like, of course - but I really should be able to make my goal of 800 by 12/2015.

I'm curious, how many of you guys also shoot stock? Know of anyone who's sold stock on here? I haven't priced mine for stock here because I have a lot of RM stuff on here that is priced by use, term and size, the third variable isn't available here, and I won't allow a full sized image for web use. Alternatively, I don't want to sell microstock and framed photos from the same site. I make a lot more from stock - even my microstock sites each earn me a decent amount - than I do here, but I've done okay here, even based on the traditional stock photo metric of RPI (return per image: total amount earned divided by the number of files you have online).

A lot of my stuff on here is stuff I wouldn't sell as stock but then there's a lot of overlap.

Finished processing a new batch of photos from yesterday's shoots. I'm not happy enough with the edits to upload just yet. Might need another pass at it tomorrow night. I work kinda slow, hehehe.

Marianne, I really am interested in what you have to say about stock, but have never tried it (here or anywhere) and am curious as to what the best way is to get started.
Feel free to share any insights.

I've also noticed that my portfolio here and on the other 2 sites is a mess. Ideally, I'd like the same photos to be up on all the sites where I sell prints. But I've never gotten around to uploading the same ones I have here onto the other sites. And I keep putting it off. At some point, I need to sit down and go through each photo, one by one, and make sure it's available on all the sites (or is removed if I deem it not worthy). What a pain this all is. And it's not even my day job, haha.

That's it for me for today. May pop-in a bit later with an upload IF I do manage to revisit a couple of images.

Ancient art in NYC - love this (the Obelisk) - took the photo on a shoot with my daughter last year when she was taking a photo class at NYU and finally processed it today. I have som many pix of NYC but very few online. I guess having grown up in the city (the Bronx) and going to law school then living and working in Manhattan for years, I feel like it's all been done, so what do I have to add? Very nearly didn't upload my black & whites of Central Park for fear they were too cliche but then sold a nice big one shortly after uploading. . . so here's something new.

Lots of RTs tonight. Wiped out - thanks for all the promos and special thanks for all the lovely comments on Monday's image. I do wonder why objects sometimes speak to us - nature people and wildlife are easy to understand - even inspiring architecture - but I'm not sure why we love objects as subjects for photography - but I know I do :)

@Belinda, wondering how you get the shortened urls with the photos to show on twitter?

@Nadim - this IS part of my day job and I still find the organization a nightmare. I'm very slow and meticulous about processing so it takes me ages to get things online, and I agonize about whether and where it should go. Since I started showing in local galleries I'm constantly agonizing over pricing too and have spent countless hours just pricing and repricing and pricing again. Too tired to put together coherent thoughts about stock photography but will try to organize my thoughts and give you some info.

Oh my god! I reached in my cabinet about an hour ago and took what I thought was my Folic Acid. I started feeling very strange and making a lot of typing mistakes (more than the usual), I checked and found I grabbed on old bottle of klonipin instead. I didn't know it wan in there.. My eyes are rolling in back of my head! So, the last few only have comments, l and F, I will go back tomorrow and share them when I am coherent... Guess I might as well lay down and enjoy it now....

I agree with Jemmy and Lee, I make an extra effort to reciprocate those that share my work. Adding the @ in from of my name makes it very easy to know who is sharing. I don't have the time everyday to research on Twitter who is sharing that day. Its just a foolproof way to let that person know you are sharing in addition to allowing potential buyers find your page directly which has paid off for me as well.

Thank you Karen for reminding me of the Twitter handle link..

Typing is really getting hard now... Catch you all on the flip in the morning!

As Kim mentioned, I was with Getty, but I walked when they started changing the game. Right now, I'm with (as you've all heard too many times) Tandem Stills and Motion (tandemstock.com). No sales there yet, but I only have 26 images that have been accepted (and 34 rejects). I still haven't figured out what's good for stock; since there seems to be no rhyme or reason for what's been accepted vs. rejected. Of course, there has to be a rhyme or reason. I just haven't figured out how to know which fit that criteria. Just when I think I have it figured out, I realize I don't (and have been that confused since the 70s).

Tandem works a bit differently than other stock houses. They have their own licensing format, and prices are fixed based on usage and "demographics" of the purchaser (demographics meaning stuff like magazine publishers, and circulation. stuff like that).

I was offered licensing through Flikr, but found out they wanted me to upload full size images to my own profile. FAA is the only site I upload full size to. Anyway, they selected well over a hundred images, and it would have taken me hours to find and resubmit full size, not to mention, they also picked images that I knew wouldn't be good full size. It didn't make any sense. After a little more research, I decided to decline their offer for now. Not having any experience with this type of scenario, it just didn't feel right. Did I make the right decision?

Congrats on sales.

I'm up to just over 600 images - aim is to get to around 1000. I know some of it isn't the greatest, but I'm taking the Amazon approach - the long tail. 1 person might find an image they like - earlier in the year I sold a large canvas of one i didn't expect to sell. I joined beginning of 2013, had my 1st sale in june, then a small one a the end of the yr; a couple at the end of Jan, then 1 a month or so over the summer, but nothing since Sept. After joining E beginning of sept, i had a number of good sales there in the last couple of months. Nothing on Z,RB,C,or p4me. I'm going to continue to add some better stuff to E after in the new year.

Someone nation a discussion on C, can you PM the info; thanks.

Don't know how often I'll be back on, as we're leaving on a jet plane (just decided to get a tune in your heads) on Friday, and have lots to do before then. We'll be back the end of the year. I'll be at the pool a couple of times this week, so I should be able to pop on again then.

Ok. All caught up. Did the quick blueline express this morning. Will go back as time permits for FBs and Twitters.

Holly. Love the star trails. Been meaning to try that myself but haven't got around to it just yet. It helps to be somewhere with low light pollution (the desert, for example), from what I've read.

Re: stock. I'm already way confused just having read the few tidbits you guys offered in the past few hours, LOL. I might have to hold off on entering that world.

Kim. I love the 70-200L (I have the f/4 version, the f/2.8 is even nicer, but more pricey). For birds and wildlife, you'll love the extra reach of the 100-400. I have the original version and have considered replacing it with the newly released version 2. But that too is rather pricey. My one beef with these 100-400 is they get a bit too heavy to handhold on longer walks. I'm actually considering replacing mine with the fixed length 400 for birds and the such. It's quite a bit lighter, but of course, there's no zoom.

Morning - wonderful art walk; running late.

I will try to start using @twitterhandle - after New Years. Right now, I just don't always have the time, so it depends on whose I remember.

@Lee - that's absurd - did they indicate how they're going to resolve it? How can someone else change the main page link?? I can see if she has a page she's collected as a curator and the tweet is coming from that page, but your page??

@Marianne - As I said, I use Tweet Adder, so on I load my tweets, and they have a url shortener built in and they also have a spot where you can upload a low resolution image (I watermark mine). I also like their retweets as I can add names, and also add in a tweet keyword like first name so it picks up on the tweet of the person I'm retweeting not just someone else's work they're tweeting. Then I also tweet direct from FAA as I go through these threads (not all just my favs of the day).

Prayers for all those children in Pakistan and the rest of the dead killed by the Taliban.

Oh Jordan, I am so sorry... I am still pretty out of it this morning. I thought on G+ that I had clicked the hashtag dropdown on #englishbulldog instead, I accidently hit #Englishbullshit.... I caught it after I cut and pasted it to my Facebook Business page... I hope I deleted it before anyone shares it! On a normal day I am not a morning person and this is proof!

Finished with Gary - sure more will pop up when I hit submit. Back later
Tweets for the tweeters and comments for everyone else.

No time to write a novel on stock photography - here's the teaser:

I'm no expert but I have licensed a few hundred traditional stock photos (i.e. @ $35-$300 each use - traditional stock used to average $100 or more per license but it's been dropping since before I even started back in 2009) to magazines all over the world including Smithsonian, Coastal Living, and many others, lots of newspapers (those can be as little as a few dollars even with trad site Alamy though some are more), for calendars, many books and websites like travelandleisure.com I've also licensed thousands of images for websites, books, magazines, etc. (including Scientific American) via the micro sites shutterstock, dreamstime and iStock by Getty for a few cents to $28 per download. Along with the agencies, I license stock directly via my Photoshelter site and through direct licensing agreements I've earned via traditional queries (I'm primarily an editorial/architectural assignment photographer, though health issues/injuries have slowed that down a lot). I'm with 4 trad agencies and 3 micros and earn enough from the ones I'm with that I'm sticking it out for now. Getty doesn't treat their photographers well, but I'm keeping the 93 photos I have there since they earn me a couple hundred a year and are selling for peanuts on the other micro sites anyway. Have 300+ on the others, ~700 on alamy, a handful on boutique sites in Wales and Germany and on 500px and image brief which I joined this year.

I agonize over whether to put images on the micros where they earn more because the peanuts add up or keep them on trad sites, so that has kept my # of images online low and on my hard drive high. Was just accepted to Spaces which requires exclusivity and sells images as prints on here for less than I do, so I need to decide what to give them and remove from here.

Seems I wrote a novel after all and half of it disappeared. The gist was that I don't want to clutter up this thread more and cause problems - hope Kim's okay with what I've said so far - so PM me and I'm happy to share more specifics and suggestions if you think my experience qualifies me to help. I'm primarily an assignment photographer so stock is a small part of what I do but it's growing despite all the competition. I see it as a nice nest egg as I loom closer to retirement and it's been a godsend giving me something to do along with FAA when my health has kept me from taking on assignments.

@Belinda - tweet adder sounds good - I tried something else but they randomly followed people and retweeted anything which I thought was useless, so I avoided the automation but this sounds good - nice way to control things and do it in one big swoop but without everything being tweeted all at once. Thanks for the info! Will look into it in the new year!

Kim, It was a very strong anti-anxiety pill I was prescribed with my brain surgery 8 years ago.. How that was still around is beyond me.. But I still am a bit fuzzy in the head from taking it.... I love my 70-200 it is my go to lens most of the time. I am with you.. the 400 is next, I have the 2x extender but it just isn't as sharp and very bulky.

Lee- I couldn't find any of my work on Amazon but I did get side tracked for awhile looking at the camera gear....A whole new wish list... That Twitter hijacking is messed up.. Korea?

Ellen= first always get rid of the @fineartamerica.. The last thing we want is potential buyers clicking directly to the FAA landing page instead of our own.

Just found out you can tag people in your tweets - did you know that? Now I get why some are popping up in my feed. Tagged the Coast Guard with a tall ship share. Maybe I'll get lucky, have sold 4 tall ship/coast guard pix on here so far - all to coast guard folks so fingers crossed.

Resisted the urge to drool over camera gear on amazon - found 57 of my photos with widely varying price tags - interesting choices - I should do some Christmas shopping ... but need to stop playing with SM and get down to some paid work LOL. Feeling very undisciplined these days! Laters!

If they find she is deliberately fraudulently doing this they will track down all of her links and shut them down. Yes, she will come back but at least they will have her in their database. .

My take on the stock business. If this were 2005, I'd say full speed ahead. Shoot fast, shoot broadly, with all the quality you can muster, and figure out quick what people want. If you'd done this you'd be making a killing today. But since 2005, the micros have flooded the market with images (probably up to 40 million on top sites), and this has had impact on the traditional stock houses, and the prices that photographers could command. Getty going ghetto on its prices and what percentage it pays photographers now is a great example.

Personally I tried it for a few years, and uploaded probably a thousand images, to roughly 8 different companies, from Alamy to Shutterstock.

I haven't uploaded a stock shot in probably 2 years. The staying power of my earnings has been impressive, considering the limited portfolio I had and the number of years since I actively participated. But it was never going to earn me a living, not unless I had 20k images or so. And with other obligations that paid far better, it just wasn't going to happen.

So now I just shoot what interests me.

Terry - your work reminded me I had a piece where I used that quote but wasn't happy with the layout - reminds me I need to revisit it.

Great art walk today to brighten up a cold rainy one! :)

Waving to Ambre!

Gary - I agree with your take on stock but given my large portfolio of travel images particularly, it's still a decent additional source of income for me, but not a full time one for sure. Wish I'd learned about stock earlier and had uploaded like crazy in the early days. I've added little to my micro portfolios in the past few years, but earnings are rising as my better selling images rise up in the ranks. It's not a get rich quick scheme and it's a lot of work for any real reward. I've done best using traditional query letters (emails) to get my portfolio in front of volume buying publishers. Moving away from alamy and toward smaller more targeted traditional stock houses, but micro is still viable - my new images are starting to gain traction and old ones are still selling - mind-blowing to have daily sales when you think that your images are competing against 40 million others.

Glad I bought stock in shutterstock ;-D

@ Terry W...sounds like a time consuming but very worthy and heartwarming project!

@ Belinda...concerning the S6 - They didn't say how it could have happened nor did they offer to resolve it. It is obviously a glitch on their part that allows it. I checked 23 FAA artists who are also on S6 and when I tried to tweet the work, she was attached to 18 of them also, so this is pretty widespread. She is also, I believe FAA. I cannot believe that this is allowed and even encouraged through their curator program. Thinking of dumping my work there.

@ Lins...you've been picked up by another artist who will get a commission off your work. That is the curator program. I really don't understand the what for's and the why's. Look for utm_google under their artists.

@ Helen...how's the tile look?

Sitting here working and sipping a 10% dark beer. I'm just galled by the amount of it that I wasted when I read Denise' apology to Jordan! Note to self...swallow expensive beer before reading comments from Denise!

@ Marianne...yes, I did the math and somebody stands to make an even nicer profit than usual if things are sold on Amazon and it sure isn't me.

@ Sandra...love your sincerity :) Also your work!

Serious question for all you jokers out here :)
Anyone use a Wacom tablet for their photo editing? I'm thinking of getting myself one for Christmas. Any thoughts on

2. Which size and or line (Pro or Intuos) to get?

Thanks!

Marianne Campolongo

Nadim, I have the Wacom Bamboo and I love it. It's much easier than using a trackpad. I think it's one of the most inexpensive and I find it more than adequate. I use it for painting and other work on my photos in Photoshop - I don't do any digital drawing from scratch.

Watching a show on Prime about Egyptian history and they're talking about the obelisks and now they're talking about a Pharaoh who was a woman, Hatshepsut. Very cool. She was Thutmose III's predecessor, though she ruled with him when he was a boy. It looks like she may have been the one who started commissioning the obelisks. Amazing to think how old that monolith is.

Oh, I'm looking into investing in a filter system. Seriously considering the Lee filter system after watching the landscape class with Ian Shive on Creative Live. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Nadim Baki

I use the Lee filter system. A bit pricey to get started, but definitely worth it. I assume you are referring more specifically to the Lee filter holder and adapter kit (Lee Foundation Kit) which you would then use with square or rectangular filters (as opposed to the ones you simply screw on your lens).
I have found over time that I rarely use the various GNDs, as I can use the software GND in Lightroom with better results. The 10-stop ND filter on the other hand, is my most priceless tool (see my various long exposure works for examples).
Lee also makes a hood that doubles as a filter holder, which i don't have, but am considering using to replace carrying around the various hoods that I usually carry around (on average, I have 3 lenses with me, each with its own hood, can be a bit of a PITA).

Hope that helps!

Marianne Campolongo

I've got a few thousand dollars worth of screw on filters and don't have all I'd want for each lens. The Lee system sounds promising though - I hate having to spend so much on all the different sizes since Nikon is notorious for making every lens take a different size filter, have some step ups and step down filter holders, but then you can't use a lens cap - sounds like a system that prevents all the duplication would be worth it in the long run.

Terry W...you get right on that complaint to Adobe! LOL

Stuart...Oh Stuart...oh good one!

Linda...on Twitter my link would be @leeseesart and G+ it would be +LeeCraig and you need to have folks in your circles to easily tag them on G+ . #leecraig would help me find my stuff, but I doubt that a collector is searching for lee craig so I would rather have the #'s that are searched for like #abstractart #photography #travelphotography...whatever is right for the image. If my name was Anne Geddes then definitely #annegeddes would be searchable!!

Disclaimer: The above hashtag comments are my own opinion based on my own experiences not rules. :))

Nadim...I have the Wacom and it is pretty dusty. Never could get the hang of it. Some of our digital art people will be able to tell you, though, I bet!

Karen Silvestri

All this Twitter talk has me confused. When I tweet photos from here do the artists get notified? I am always getting texts saying my tweets have been retweeted. I only see people tweeting my work if I check notifications on Twitter, people retweeting my work or from a couple of artists. Am I doing something wrong?

Marianne Campolongo

Karen, you only get a notification if someone uses your twitter handle. Otherwise, people have to happen to see it or search for their names. That's why using the twitter handles is better. I check my notifications and with nearly 1000 followers now even that is time consuming, so personally I won't go checking everywhere but will RT stuff when I see someone is doing the same via my notifications.

I've been trying to tweet & share on G+ more and more and will often do that in lieu of commenting when I'm pressed for time, so using the twitter handle or +name on G+ lets people know I'm sharing their work.

I've tried to be generous with my time tweeting people's work, sharing on G+ etc, but after a while, if it's not reciprocated (or if I don't know it's reciprocated because I don't see the tweets or G+ posts) I'll stop. I know people can't tweet/share every day and if someone is good about tweeting my stuff, I'm not out there looking for tit for tat, but without someone using my handle, I'm far less likely to see any of their shares. Just speaking for myself, but I do tend to do more for those I know are reciprocating and if I never see a tweet because there's no handle, I might assume they aren't reciprocating. So, in a a nutshell, that's the benefit of using handles.

I like this group because most people are generous and follow the rules and even go beyond what's expected.

Thank you Ellen. I'm a nervous wreck about this entire process, and property values here are in the dumper. My place needs some major fixing too, so I'm just hoping I can get a buyer and get a price I can live with. There are still way too many short sales and foreclosures here, so who knows?

So far, I'm pretty happy with this Realtor. He seems pretty straight forward, and the comps he sent me look just about right (except for the one underneath me that was a bank sale after years of foreclosure action, and which is listed as having a lake view. Ain't no lake view, unless it's inside that unit. LOL

Off to experiment with a hard paintbrush,,,,,,,,,,hey, get your mind out of the gutter, you know, if one leaves a used paintbrush that wasn't cleaned very well out overnight, the paint dries and gets hard,,,,,,sheesh, what dirty minds.

Have a great day! Laters

Tutu, not to worry darling. He may be handsome, but he's not YOU!!

And just think, if he gets me a sale, I'll be living closer to you even faster.

Obviously, right about now I'm thinking about our Sales Fairy's sister. The one who sells property instead of art. Please send her my way!!

Good morning!

Sorry I have only had time to do likes, faves and facebook shares the last two days. Got stuck doing a 12 hour shift yesterday and then had to stay over today for a meeting! Right now I'm falling asleep at the "wheel" (computer) so hopefully I didn't miss anyone. LOL

@ Steve, you gave me a good laugh this morning with your talk of tututwerking and your stiff paintbrush. LOL!!!

Congrats to all those with sales, we have sure had a lot in here.

In regards to stock photography, I have been doing it since 2005. I started out in a RM site. Money was good when you made a sale. Now with the micro stocks, it's harder to make decent money. Sometimes you get lucky and have an enhanced sale and then you make some good money. Doing stock photography was sure an eye opener for me. For as little as they pay, they demand perfection and that is when I had to start looking at my work at 100%. The focus has to be good with no grain or digital noise, both good reasons why your work is rejected. I haven't uploaded anything in over a year and still make frequent sales. I've been thinking about getting out of stock photography, but have to wait for them to payout. May have to actually upload a few to get the sales more regular before I can do that.

Have a great day everyone!

Lee, I'm at nearly 1,000 new followers and many of my brand new images are already at 500 views or more - so SM is working at least to get eyes on my work. Wondering if my pillow sale was via FB or twitter. I am seeing many new views of my regular website coming via twitter per google analytics. Now, I just need to see more sales, but I figure once I hit 10,000 twitter followers I'll start seeing more sales coming that way, so I have a ways to go, but I had 47.2 thousand impressions this month which is kind of mind boggling, and that's bringing an average of 4 clicks a day, mostly to my site from the analytics (and also to other's work), so that's good. I need to develop a good plan for twitter to take advantage of this, but for now I'm happy to see my base growing and thanks to all of you for sharing my work!

I have a question and would love your input. So, on my social media websites, I advertise not just the print and accessory portion, but also the phone cases and pillows. However, I do not allow all my images on the phone cases or pillows. I'm a little particular about how some just don't suit them well. So, I created two galleries specifically Pillow Store and Phone Case Store... the idea was that I didn't want someone to have to click through all of my images if that is what they were specifically looking for. I wanted to make it easier on them.

Is this a bad idea? There is this Faa "guru" dude that told me having repeated images in the gallery should not be done. Of course, everyone has so many ideas on what should and should not be done. But in this case, I wanted to make an exception. And was just wondering if anyone else does this?

Okay, sorry about the long winded post this time around.

@lee - haha, I try my best to be. Love your work as well.

Congrats on everyone's sale. To those who are unwell in some way, I wish you better and healing.

Sincerely,
Sandra

PS- I have been stumbling images using the boxes up at the right, but it doesn't register a 1 to prove that I did it. Not sure if I am doing it wrong or what.

Late night blue-line before heading to bed. Also late to the twitter discussion, but what its worth, I've been keeping track of visitors over the past couple of months. On days that I remember to start up TweetAdder - which I have set to auto-tweet about 20 images per day, I get 1,000-1,300 visitors. If I forget, the number drops to under 500. If I do additional tweets (i.e. feature announcements) it grows to over 2,000 visitors a day. I always use AW links (shortened) and hashtags (#) when promoting my work on SM. So, tweeting does increase visibility.

Marianne, I had no idea this obelisk is in NY, I had been thinking that when we were there our guide said it was in Paris. Maybe there were two removed. Nice to think I may see it some day.

Nadim, I think for your work a Bamboo would be adequate. I bought myself a medium sized Intuos Pro. I love it, but I must admit I have used it very little so far. I need to find more time to just play. My problem is I have a lot of pain in my back when sitting at a desk working for long, and it is not something you can really use lounging on a couch. But I have decided that I would have been happy with the smaller size.

Good morning to all,
Had some internet issues for the past couple of days. Now I will start playing catch up. Probably post something later, while the internet was down I was finally able to get some creative stuff done.

Also, rec'd the sample pillow I ordered. Fabric, printing and stuffing seem fine. However, where the zipper is on one edge of the pillow it isn't printed there is about a half inch white section with the zipper down the middle. I don't know if this is a mistake or if that is the way they come. If I was still living in the USA I would send it back but the return postage from Panama makes it not worth it. Has anyone else received a pillow with similar unprinted areas near the zipper?

So I couldn't really see to read and was stuck riding in the car and didn't want to waste my time, so I retweeted...could recognize your pictures, but there is no telling what I retweeted. LOL
Also fixed my computer. I was afraid it was the fact that I had dropped my computer, shh don't tell...but I needed to look at a DVD and realized that I had left one in (when the computer fell) and dislodged the DVD and that was causing my problems..I hope...Seems to be better.

Anne, so happy you are satisfied with your realtor...don't know how Reedy feels, but hey! You can try to bury a St. Joseph's statue upside down in your front yard (special place google it) I'm not teasing...people swear by it!!
Hope all you people with headaches, toothaches and just feeling down feel better soon. Sending you all a hug.

Terry F - The Obelisk's twin went to the English according to the Central Park site where I got my info. I knew it was from Egypt but thought it was given to the Met (the Metropolitan Museum of Art, it's just outside behind the museum) back when they gave us the Temple of Dendur. Just really never thought about how old it was. I vaguely recall seeing one in Paris. It's funny I just got info about one in Rome where there are a lot more, learned more about Caesar's conquest of Egypt in that show/one on ancient Rome so no surprise there are obelisks there. I love history.

I felt like I was coming down with something last night and then I discovered what it was .... a touch of SF flu! :)

Greetings to all on this beautiful Thursday morning.

Lee ... the bath tile work/plumbing stuff was at last completed yesterday and I'm a happy camper. What an ordeal that turned out to be. :(

Thank you again to all who are doing all the tweeting, retweeting and g+'ing. I'm happy to return the favor. It sure does make a BIG difference in the # of views received. Hopefully that turns into sales.

Ambre .. congratulations on your first FAA sale. The first one is always the best one!

Anne .. hope your condo sells quickly and you can be winging your way to AZ. It's certainly the right time of year to sell. :)

Have family coming in tonight for the holidays so I better get out the Pledge and swish the dust cloth around. Got to go try to find something to post too. BBL ....

Was just looking someone up on Google+ and found I have 70+ notifications from the past few days! You guys are awesome! Thanks for the shares - am +1'g your shares of other's work and then resharing them - figuring the +1's are helpful. Lots of googling and tweeting today but only comments for those who aren't on any social media.

Have been playing on G+ so still working my way through today's lovely art - though I saw some of it on G+ - will make sure I like it all and share somewhere. Lots to do so popping in and out today.

Feeling the pressure/stress of the holiday rush so blue-lined today with likes and faves plus promos with tweets, G+s, pins and stumbles

Today is packing, dog grooming and tying up the loose ends before we hit the road tomorrow. Heading to my parents in northern Oklahoma; just a 720 mile jaunt! I should probably say I'll be back around the 30th but I think I'm too addicted to this group.

I noticed that most tweets still have the "FAA" bits left in there... Some people delete these bits but many don't seem to? Just wondering... wouldn't we be better off not sending people off to random parts of FAA? Appreciate your thoughts on this, thanks

Still popping in and out tweeting and g+g - some people got a comment and shares after I found them on my lists - lucky you. If I didn't catch you yet it's because I'm still going.

Joan, so sorry about your three miserable days! I have to say, I was at the mall from around 4PM until 9:45PM yesterday and it was empty - and that's prime shopping time! Really weird so close to Christmas and everything was on sale already - the economy is still struggling along and art is not a necessity to most people's way of thinking. Wonder what it would be like to be selling in a robust economy? Hope we'll know someday! Maybe people are so busy they just do all their shopping - including art - online? I had to return something or it would have been Amazon for me I know - though I still don't really get buying art online - I love seeing it in person (I probably shouldn't say that but it's true). Glad at least you had a sale here!

it really was a sucky 3 days! I'm glad I had only a verbal agreement and not a written contract. I know I haven't been around lately. Just too busy with the "day job", teaching wine and canvas, and working on commissioned work.
But I wanted to just pop in to say Merry Christmas to everyone, and to throw out an idea.
I sent an email to FAA about this had.
Next year I plan on changing my marketing strategies a little and one thing for sure will be to send thank you cards to everyone that buys an original OR print of my work directly or online. Since FAA is where I sell the most of my printed stuff I asked them why they couldn't put some kind of button on here that would allow artists to click on it, pick one of their own card images, pay for it, and have FAA send it to the customer that made the purchase. I'm sure they will not give up the name and addresses to us because we might use that to sell them artwork/prints from one of our OTHER POD sites. However, I'm sure they could make the aforementioned button so we could do this and they still keep the buyers information.
What do you guys think? If you think it's a good idea too maybe you could email them also.
Unless this feature is already available and I was just too stupid to find it on here.

Either way I hope you all have a VERY Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyous Kwanzaa, or whatever Pagan holiday you celebrate may it be everything you wish for. AND... May we ALL have a VERY prosperous upcoming New Year.
I will be posting this in a couple of the groups I belong to so I apologize if you get duplicates of it. LOL

Peace and Harmony,
Darren

WACOM - I had the Bamboo, but the active area was just too small (4x6) so now I have the Intuos Pro in size Medium. I really like it! I don't use it much for PS, mostly for graphic design stuff in AI and Painter. I found that the Intuos was much more pressure sensitive than the Bamboo. It even has touch controls like my iPhone. If you are willing to spend $300 versus $100 I would recommend the Intuos Pro. Size is a matter of preference (no comment from you Stuart).

Wacom also offers the Cintiq Companion or Hybrid which allow you to draw directly on a screen. The price was just too high for me (around $1k) to justify the purchase. I'm thinking about investing in the art pen (currently I use the grip pen) because along with the 5 axes of the grip pen, it also has barrel rotation.

Here's a link to the one I have: http://www.wacom.com/en-us/products/pen-tablets/intuos-pro-medium

I didn't purchase the tablet directly from Wacom. I got it for $300 at Best Buy. I believe Amazon also sells it for less.

Hey everyone, suggestion, since Twitter handles are such an issue and so time consuming, why cant we just take a second when we post our submission for the day and add out Twitter handle to the post? It would save a lot of time and obvious heartache?

Please take a moment and read the description of this photo. At first we were afraid it was the GBH that had a hat band around its beak, but apparently, that one is still doing okay (although I don't see how). It's so sad to see all the trash in the water at Wakodahatchee these days. I hope someone who works there will do something about cleaning it up before we lose more birds and wildlife.

Nadim Baki

Denise, that's an excellent idea! If we each include our Twitter handle here, with our link, there would be no excuse for the person sharing to miss it. I like that!

Work's been hell for the past 2 days, so I'm in and out here when I can. Promoting you guys on SM when I happen to have a minute or two.
Researching the Wacom tablet and wondering if I order it today, whether it will arrive in time for my holiday break. Hehehehe.

Marianne Campolongo

Great idea Denise! It would be easy to cut and paste from here. You could even suggest hashtags next to your twitter handle - there is a promo discussion here for SM promotion only here too, so don't want to step on anyone's toes with that but if Kim's okay with us adding the info after our posts for those who are willing to share, that would be great.

Finally picked 8 photos to submit for a potential show (they'll take anywhere from 0-4 so fingers crossed!) So hard to decide but my daughter is visiting so she helped. She's not afraid to be honest with me about what she likes and what she doesn't and she's very artistic so it's been a big help.

Now to process 30 photos and make prints for a client (I should have sent them out but it's too late), upload the show photos for the jurors, do laundry, clean the house, wrap the gifts I bought yesterday - I kept thinking today was Wednesday so feeling a bit panicked. My daughter's boyfriend is coming for the weekend so the house needs to be put in shape and I need to mail out the photos to the client by Saturday at the latest. This is why I'm not selling on etsy - I like that FAA does it all for me!

Hubby got an email that his pillow will be delivered tomorrow - can't wait!

Okay, inquiring minds need to know! I see a few have gotten their pillows and a few questions have been asked that haven't been answered. Anne that is so sad, I love that you are bringing awareness through your work. It makes it even more sensitive to have such a touching picture of them.

I understand you have put time into the Twitter handle sight Anne and I have been very appreciative of that work. I think it would be so much more time efficient if we just added it to out post. Just an idea for those of us that want to participate in that idea. I know many of you have your own systems that work for you.

Nadim They search your work through the hashtags then find you directly though your handle. Twitter is huge because it works..

Marianne- I was going to add the # suggestion once everyone got use to adding the their TW handles. It would probably be better to use the hashtags that the artist wants anyway. click copy past BAM you are done! . Would make life so much easier.

Thank you fir the well wishes, at least it was a sinus headache so after some sleep and allergy meds it was gone.

I had 4 people use the discount code I used on Twitter and FB since the start of Dec. Some people don't think artist should ever discount their work, but I guess the business side of me sees it as not losing 25% but gaining 75% of what I would not have gotten with out the code

Make the madness stop! VA bureaucracy that says I need to do a FOIA to get access to my own medical records, sitting for an entire 10 hour delivery window for a truck that never comes, Office Depot customer service that can't contact their own delivery carrier, and FAA artists who are sending angry and threatening messages accusing me of sending them 50+emails a day (actually I sent 1, the rest are coming because they left the 'please notify me via e-mail when someone replies to this discussion' box checked). Sorry only time for brief comments likes and faves. My poor 4 year old has the flu, so it's going to be a fun night :(. Hopefully it doesn't spread through our house.

Sorry to hear of your troubles Joan. Thank you for sharing Anne. It makes me so sad that we can't even take care of our Earth and these wonderful creatures have to suffer because of our selfishness.

Well hope you all have a good night. Guess since I'll be up I'll play with some astrophotography!

Teri, I have to agree with you. I scroll right past text-only tweets. There are so many from so many people and entities that reading them would take me all day. Time I don't have.
So as I said earlier, I still kinda don't get Twitter. But I'll keep posting my pics and retweeting you guys (as many of you have retweeted my work). Beyond that, who knows...
FB seems to work best for me so far. Although I have yet to see a sale from any SM. Or really, any sale from anywhere, LOL.

Well, with that rant out of the way, I finally got some time to go back and catch up on today's art walk. Work deadlines had been brutal these past 2 days. Things should be tapering off now.

This will be my last post until sometime after Christmas. I will be voting tomorrow and auto-tweeting while I'm gone.

Sounds like you had a bad day Dawn - the lack of customer service nowadays is very sad.

I do have to say I sometimes find the talk about SM more tiring than the actual SM. :)
Forgive me, but it makes me feel like nothing is ever going to be enough, especially as I've spent a lot of time promoting others from FAA, and here I've only had 5 sales this year at FAA to strangers and one of those I brought in from another site (larger size than I could offer there). I think a little talk from time to time helps those get acquainted with options of promoting but too much seems to smell like desperation. Don't want to be a humbug, but I wanted to be honest about what I've been feeling the last couple of weeks, so maybe my break is timely.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a Happy Chanukah, Merry Christmas or if they don't celebrate just enjoy the Holiday season.

@campyphotos

I sold one pillow with the coupon code I used on Twitter & FB so one of them worked. Next time I'll do two different codes so I can test which one works. I've had a ton of traffic to my FAA account via twitter - don't know if my other sales came via twitter or other SM or google search or someone who went to FAA but it has to be one of them.

Only had 7 sales this year which is far fewer than last year and very disappointing given the amount of time I've put into all this promoting, but sales have picked up each time I start tweeting etc - though with so few sales it could be a coincidence rather than a pattern. I think I'd need to have a few thousand followers before saying that twitter doesn't work. I've gotten retweets lately by all kinds of travel people, some interior designers, sailors and just some people with no particular business on their twitter accounts. I do read tweets that interest me but I skim a lot and don't read everything. Maybe it's the writer in me but I'm as drawn to a good headline as to a good photo.

Merry Christmas Happy Chanukah Happy New Year! Be back later. Marker M

Nadim...the reason that you scroll thru text only tweets is because you aren't looking for anything. The people that we are trying to reach are looking for something and that is where good tagging comes into play.

LOL Henry,

I am with you Belinda. Have a great Christmas and see you soon.

Just a quick breeze through.

I have been into the Bear pit of Leicester again this morning. Didnt get one Christmas prezzy. Me leg is still grotty. I did hovver inside the Cathedral and they let me take pics. That was lovely in there. I think the organ (steady you lot) was being tuned because the bloke kept playing the same ditto over and over again, but it did sound nice. There were a group of Gospel singers singing carols in the market square which was brilliant and gave for a wonderful atmosphere.

Going to put me leg up for a couple of hours. I have chocolate!

Took some prints to work yesterday. Dumbest idea my wife ever had, except it wasn't. I sold some, including the first copy of the above, my favorite image from this year shot in Rome. Got some great feedback too and generated a bunch of interest. There is a strong fundraising streak in our industry (non-profits) so I'm doing it again next year but as a fundraiser with each purchase to be a donation to a specific charity. Let's see how it goes. I thought I'd share. The big takeaway is don't listen to me, listen to my wife.

Pillows came. One looks great - the one my husband bought himself. One is printed so light the blue sky looks white. The one he got for my Mom for Christmas was printed upside down and I can't get through to customer service to try to get a new in time - we're traveling to her house early on Christmas Eve, so don't want to re-order if it arrives in the afternoon Wednesday which will be too late!

Printing is to the edge and the product looks nice but it's really annoying that they printed upside down! And really bad that it's impossible to reach customer service. Not that I don't have other things to do with my time.

Bah....humbug!

Just likes. I don't feel like giving FAA more publicity at the moment. If customer service comes through I'll let you guys know. I'm not hopeful. Anyone compare the pillows to RB?

Ellen Levinson

UUMMMMMMMM.... they printed a ...... PILLOW.... upside down???????
Did you try..... I don't know.... Turning it OVER????

Marianne Campolongo

Caught up. Glad I ordered the pillows since it gives me a sense of what will work and what doesn't - the one they printed upside down (my Vintage Bougainvillea) looks gorgeous other than having the goofy zipper on top.

They are on a heavy canvas material - none of the tags say whether they are machine washable and I forgot to ask when I spoke with customer service but they're supposed to be calling me back to see about replacing the upside down one in time for Christmas. At least they were nice this time and didn't treat me like an idiot like they did when I called about the coupons and later via email.

The pillows seem like they'll hold up. They're not the same caliber as those made to go with my couch but at this price, I wouldn't expect them to be. The fine detail in the canvas is quite nice but they definitely print lighter than the photographs do and lighter than they look on the computer screen - vs the cards which print darker.

this is a very old upload and the sale really surprises me. It is one I have considered removing in the past but never got around to!

Marianne Campolongo

It's so funny how that is Joan. I almost took one of my photos off a stock site last night thinking it wasn't really stock-y enough and was going to put it elsewhere, but didn't get to it, and today I just got an extended license on it - my share is only $28.00 but it adds up! Trying to feel less bah humbug - going out tonight to get a tree, maybe hot toddies beforehand will do the trick?

(PS the photo I posted here today was also one of my regular downloads there today, along with a bunch of others, including the map from a few days ago. I think that may be why I feel impatient here sometimes - I don't expect multiple daily sales like on the microstock sites, but thought at this point I'd have at least a handful of monthly sales like on traditional stock sites - have to adjust my expectations or take a class from Joan I guess.)

Debra, I got a sticker sale on RB a while back too - right after I finally made payout over there - so, it may be a while to the next one.

Merry Merry to all

Hit 1,001 twitter followers, waiting for the sales to roll in LOL!

Going to head to bed with my book and to watch the tube (my idea of multi tasking). Have a good night and I'll see y'all in the morning.

Hi everyone! Been a busy, busy day with lots of errands and running around tying up loose ends before next week.

Didn't post anything today but will see if I can rustle something up later. Otherwise, tomorrow. Also didn't do any commenting today but everyone got a like, some faves and lots of tweets and g+'s. Thanks for all who reciprocate. Several of you really are *super* tweeters and g+'ers and go above and beyond. May the SF reward you profusely.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanzaa to all .... and for anyone who doesn't celebrate any of these, just have yourself a wonderful day! Safe travels to all who are *on the road* over the holidays.

Happy travels, Henry. Hope you have a fabulous time on your photo expedition and winter escape. Sounds like fun!

Belinda ... enjoy your time away. Will miss you while you're gone.

Bummer about your pillow, Marianne. Zipper in the wrong place, print too light, cards too dark. Geesh! Hope our customers aren't experiencing the same problems. One of my first sales earlier this year was a 25 pack of greeting cards that were eventually returned. I wonder if it was because they printed too dark. It's difficult enough for some of us to get a sale and I would hate to think we lost the sale because the printer FAA uses messed up. Wonder if they tell you why something was returned. Oh well....

Happy holidays to all who are traveling and taking off for Christmas. I'll be around posting and promoting. My younger son, who has been living with me, just moved out today. Happy and sad for me.

Have a great night and see you tomorrow.

Darren - sorry - didn't mean to yell - I tend to capitalize when I can't bold - no apologies needed on your end - it was pretty funny. I was just in a bah humbug mood ...

In a much better mood now - we got a gorgeous 7' fraiser fir and are watching White Christmas while the boughs drop and settle down. Lovely to have our daughter home for Christmas.

Wishing everyone - including the resident curmudgeon - all the best this holiday season! Safe travels and have fun!

@Darren ... welcome back! Really like the thank you note idea.

@Pamela ... glad to hear the presentation went well; enjoy the eagle outing.

Good night from Texas.

Finally caught up. I think. Lots of bluelining, but I did get around to some SM sharing later on.
If I missed you, do not hesitate to holler. I'm having a bit of trouble keeping up lately.

Spending the rest of the evening enjoying a quiet drink of cider while I re-edit some old photos and add some more art to the 3 different sites (here, C and RB).
I have enough photos going back 2 years or so that I should be able to have 1000 or so "keepers" edited and uploaded here as long as I buckle down and get to uploading. A few every day, I figure.

All the best to anyone celebrating holidays and to anyone on the road traveling. Have a wonderful rest of 2014. Aside from a wedding party this weekend, these next two weeks will probably be the quietest i've have in a long time! Which only means I'll fill up the time with stuff that needs to be done around here. Today, if I can muster the determination, I'll dig up some landscaping that has just overgrown its place. I hope everyone else is having more fun than that!

Deena thanks for asking. I wont say anymore about me foot otherwise Terri will nag me. Winks at Terri smiley.

Glad those of you who read about King Dick found it interesting. Seems he wasn't the tyrant that Shakespeare made him out to be either.

Its good to laugh Kim. Glad you had a good time.

Marianne that's a great film to start the festivities off with. I never get fed up with seeing that.

I would just like to say to those that will be away from now until the New Year, HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR. SAFE JOURNEYS.

Happy Holidays to those celebrating with family & friends and those who cannot be with family or friends due to circumstances beyond control. Have fun, experience joy, remember the less fortunate, stay safe :)

I had been wondering what hitting the +1 button on g+ did so I googled it and here's one little article about it in case you're interested. I guess every little bit helps to direct traffic to one's work.

My image for Saturday: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/bus-ride-reflection-roy-williams.html

Here's the description of this image!

While riding a bus in Amsterdam, I noticed a child's reflection before me and reminded me of a time when I was a young boy and I would enjoy watching things move quickly and seldom looked back.

Kim, glad to hear you ladies had a fun night.

Bob, thanks for sharing those fantastic images. The first portrait was amazing but not sure how that fits travel photography.

Great to see you Elizabeth, Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Sure is quite in hear this AM, that is except through my headphones. Nice short art walk this morning. Have Joe Bonamassa cranked up to 10 on the headphones only because they don't go up to 12.

Nadim, I'll take the Nor Cal weather without the crowd and smog of SmellA. You do capture it well though.

Heading out to find a few more stocking stuffers. Then I'll settle in for some football, another art walk, and later a couple of Holiday parties. Peace.

Caught up and working on SM. Good info Helen on G+. When I share to G+ I always go to my page and +1 what I shared. Since it will show on my business page as well, you actually get 2+'s from me. So anything you share to G+, you need to go to your page and +1 the images, as that's how google plus works. The more +' the better
