This has to be one of the hardest things to do; talking about yourself. But, here it is. Up until a year and a half ago, I worked for 19 years as a tax- preparer and then 4 years for the local Hospice as an Office Coordinator. Back in August of 2010 I was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis. It left me paralyzed from the waist down for a week and it took three weeks of rehabilitation to walk again with the assistance of a cane.
Transverse Myelitis is an auto-immune disease that attacks the spine. If you have an occurrence once then it is diagnosed as Transverse Myelitis. If you have a second occurrence, then it is more than likely MS. Transverse Myelitis is extremely rare. I can remember my neurologist saying that this would be a life changing event. I didn't believe him and completely put it out of my mind.
I went back to work as soon as I could and poured myself into my work. I loved my position and I loved working for Hospice. Approximately 1 1/2 years later, it was becoming apparent that I could no longer move as fast as I used to, concentrate like I used to, or think as clearly as I used to. I would fall asleep at my desk; which definitely did not help the situation.
I eventually went on full-term disability. What does a person do when they feel they have lost everything including their identity? You find something else you can do that gives you that feeling of self-worth. Anything that will help put a bounce back in your step. Photography is what I found. It brings out the creative side in me. It helps me to know that there is beauty everyday, everywhere you look.
My favorite photographs to take include birds, animals, nature, city, water, and landscapes.I also enjoy certain architecture and most any barn I can find. I hope you enjoy my photographs as much as I enjoy taking them. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
