i just want to TOOT my own horn for a moment...
My FAA signature piece "Do Not Deny The Senses For Even They Are Enlightenment” has won first place in the mixed media category in a International nude art competition that will be published in November of this year. it will be the Volume 5 in a series with the somewhat pretentiousness title of; "The World's Greatest Erotic Art of Today”. The book will have about 110 winning images from five categories: Fine Art, Photography, Digital Art, Sculpture and Mixed Media. i have entered this competition before and won a place in Volume 3.
In the past the winning artworks went on a five city tour, each tour was different but the cites were Amsterdam, Berlin, Chicago, Dallas, London, Los Angeles, Miami, Montreal, New York, and San Francisco … and unfortunately this year it looks like only one city… bummer
But today i have the (for me) dreaded task of writing a Bio and artist statement that are limited in length by character count… that i can do. However they have another question they wish us to answer in one sentence 120 character count, counting spaces and punctuation, “HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE THE TERM “CREATIVE NUDE ART”?
“HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE THE TERM “CREATIVE NUDE ART”? - We are asking every artist to give a 1-sentence definition of what the term "Creative Nude Art" means to them. We want to know what inspires you and how you define your own creativity in/for the nude art form."
i have the feeling that it is going to be one condensed answer…

Well congrats Ed, how exciting is that......the only thing which came to my mind was if I attempted a self nude of myself would be: A inner self sensory perception in retrospect.
Why that came to mind, because of the individual image we perceive ourselves through our minds or viewed in a mirror.is different as others perceive us. Our minds are the same but the image of our bodies are of constant gradual change.

Gee, they've got a Sculpture section, too. That' should interest certain attention seekers, edit, artistes, who would love to be " published" (if accepted).
I didn't realize there's a cash prize,too....woohoo for you.
This could be a fun thread for artists to contribute one-liners about nude art, in reply to that requirement, lol.

Michael, i have a selfie in sculptural form... maybe the answer is in somewhere in there... http://fineartamerica.com/featured/self-discovery-ed-meredith.html
Vivian, i think that could be fun... i think i have it, one sentence and it's exactly 120 characters... i'll post it later.

Ed, was a mirror used to create that very unique sculpture. Is there a companion version as in the bend over backwards, :).

"Creative Nude Art" = "Art of human natural form without encumbrances." (Thank me later)

Congratulations, Ed!! "Creative nude art" is its own definition. If I were you, I'd probably ignore it, lol. You've already won, anyway!

Melissa, yeah i know... CA$H!!!
Patricia, yes it does seem redundant to answer but when i try to upload my info without it, i get an “incomplete" return to go…

Congratulations Ed, that is a very unique piece. Hope to see your required definition they are asking for.

Excellent news, your work is certainly worthy of the prize :o) That is such a detailed work, I'm not sure anyone but you would ever be able to catch all the symbolism and innuendos. I've always thought it was quite masterful and intriguing.

Good to hear your winning news, Congratulations! Where is the chosen city for the show? As for the" Creative nude Art" line you could say something like "When the challenge of barren form is masterfully (thanks Melissa) created through thought, feeling, visual wonder, and expression. "

Thanks Jim, i’m trying not so much to answer the question, but make a statement that relates to my work that the judges have chosen, and the fact that the theme of the book is ‘erotic art' and not just about the nude.
So much of my inspiration comes from combining the Sacred and the Profane in a work, particularly in erotic art, i find when using that combination in a visual narrative, I can transcend the base and exploitive nature of the nude.
so i’m kind of stuck in a loop on that theme…
Thanks Natalie
Charline… YES CA$H!!… i can’t get over it… LOL
Thank you Melissa, i’m not so sure that i know what's going on there anymore either,
but i just figured i’ve become so esoteric that i don’t even understand me, myself… . =>))
Kim, the show will be in Miami in November...

Ha ha!! A tribute to the wandering mind of 'esoteric' artist Ed Meredith........ ;o)
he said come wander with me love....come wander with me..... away from this sad world...come wander with me
he came from the sunset...he came from the sea...he came from my sorrow...and can love only me

Melissa, what a beautiful way to close the day, that is lovely... i will listen to it one more time and turn the confuser off... Thanks

Great news Ed. We'll deserved. Just shows you gotta be in it to win it. What other treasures have you got leaning up against a wall? Always a sense of the natural through nature in your work, no matter what may seem nudes, there,s always the essence of nature within, when you consider the work. So an erotic Ed, is natural by nature :))

Thank you Sheena… . =>))
Maria, funny you should mention art leaning against the wall, i have a fair amount of work doing just that.
We have a 13 year old niece coming to visit us for a week. And her father, my wife's brother-in-law, has always done a walk-through of our home and my studio,
turning what he considered inappropriate art to face the wall… granted what one allows their children to view is a parent’s perogative and right,..
but this a guy got on my case for using the word “nipple” in his daughter's presence when she was 7… lol…
She’s coming alone for the visit and he won’t be here to censor. So here i am thinking hmmm… just what is approriate for another's child
and turning some of my works to face the wall while moving them to the back of the stack… LOL

Hiding this material from youngsters only strengthens the taboo which leads to further problems later in life. It is comparable to alcohol use and abuse. In communities where alcohol is for sale but withheld from minors, there is a far bigger problem with teenage binge drinking and all the associated issues when compared to the more relaxed society's which allow their kids a little wine with a meal .. And it's exactly the same with sex and nudity.. If we as a society hide it from our kids we'll end up with lust crazed teens everywhere doing all sorts of depraved stuff to themselves and being sexual wastelands by the time they're 20... Unless that's the big plan of course?/?
edit: I was trying to say.. I'd leave the studio exactly how it is..lol

Ed,
That is crazy! Bravo ten times over!
Your signature image deserved a spot for it's breadth and depth of eroticism. A true study in esoteric beautiful art!
Congratulations :)

Barry, i’m not talking about this piece or many others of my nude works, she has seen and we have conversations about some of them, i’m a great believer in educative and maturative exposure… However, i have a few works with subjects and their activities that are definitely inappropriate for certain ages, in fact i know some adults that shouldn’t see them… LOL
Thanks Wendy
Donna, thanks sister, that means a lot coming from a fellow Yab Yum painter… =>))

You reminded me of "Whistle Stop Cafe" by Fannie Flagg Ed. In checking what is appropriate for the young lady to come to your house for a week.
“I brought a picture with me that I had at home, of a girl in a swing with a castle and pretty blue bubbles in the background, to hang in my room, but that nurse here said the girl was naked from the waist up and not appropriate. You know, I've had that picture for fifty years and I never knew she was naked. If you ask me, I don't think the old men they've got here can see well enough to notice that she's bare-breasted. But, this is a Methodist home, so she's in the closet with my gallstones.”

Thanks Drew… =>)
Sydne, i had forgotten that funny scene from a movie worth a revisit…
Thank you for the over and over Sophi, however, beware of heros they usually disappoint…
Yeah, "creative nude art", i feel like i’m taking a test… lol
i had the tendency to write with a bit of flourish in my first draft, but i pulled back and tried to keep it simple,
and i think this 118 character sentence may be it ...
"Creativity in nude art transcends the base exploitive nature of nakedness and reveals the inherent beauty of the nude."
I like that Ed. But I am thinking, rather than the 'inherent beauty of the nude, maybe the inherent beauty of the human body?
Ohhhh ;-o I so do love that . . .
Really, intensely succinct.
You had me pondering nakedness and the art of being nude - the feelings associated with just a turn of a word..
Bravo, brother :)
Thanks for the suggestion Sydne, i thought of that phrase, “human body”, but they took me over the allotted sentence character count of 120 by 4… i could remove the word base and meet the requirement...
"Creativity in nude art transcends the base exploitive nature of nakedness and reveals the inherent beauty of the nude."
"Creativity in nude art transcends the exploitive nature of nakedness and reveals the inherent beauty of the human body."
Thanks Donna, i love both of those states... being nude and naked… =>)
Edit: i think i'll stay with nude, i like the pondering reaction that Donna had to nakedness and nude... and 'human body' starts to sound a bit clinical for erotica... and i think base exploitation is a somewhat stronger statement and brings the exploitation down a notch or two, making it seem more seedy.
Yeah 120 words, it kind of limits you in the description doesn't it? Maybe its me, but usually, and I am no writer, stay away from using the same word twice. Another word you could use, is, bareness; "reveals the inherent beauty of bareness".
I do agree 'human body" does take your description more towards a clinical statement. Anyway just some thoughts.
Me too, i try not to use or duplicate the same work in one sentence and struggled with it here.
i could use erotic art instead of nude art... but the question is about Creative Nude Art and not Erotic Art... oh well, sigh
