Rip, Alan Rickman

I really like him in so many roles from Die Hard to Harry Potter. Dead at 69 of cancer.

RIP.

He had such a sexy voice, one of my favourites. Listen to his contribution to Tubular Bells II - wonderful (no visuals, just listen!)

Geez i didn't hear about this. Two weeks in to 2016 and we've lost Bowie and Rickman.

My favourite Rickman character was the Sherrif of Nottingham in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.

How sad.

'Cancel Christmas' - I agree Justin, he played that role perfectly

Holy cow, Batman!

Another amazing artist and bright light has gone out of this world.

RIP Mr. Rickman

Just saw that online. Another one lost at a young age. My favorite character of his was as the villain Hans Gruber in Die Hard.

Yea, it would be great if all the cool kids would stop dying.

Lemmy from Motorhead,David Bowie and now Alan Rickman. All lost to that horrible disease

My favorite role he did was Galaxy Quest.

I fell in love with him as Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility. Again, another shocking newsstory this morning. And at age 69, just like Bowie. Lemmy had just turned 70 when he died.

Yes Tony, one of mine too...

"By Grabthar's hammer, by the suns of Worvan, you shall be avenged." - Sir Alexander Dane (Alan Rickman)

I loved his unique voice, his acting and especially his portrayal of professor Snape, he brought that character to life, I am so so sad to hear of his passing.

Justin,The role of the Sheriff of Nottingham is one of my favourites as well. He played the part brilliantly. Anyone that hasn't seen the film Robin Hood Prince of Thieves should do so.

Another talent gone, sigh. Loved him in Dogma, as well as all of the above.

Was just going to mention Dogma. My favorite is Snape, although it's hard to choose from so many wonderful characters.

His first role was Tybalt in a 1978 movie of Romeo and Juliet. I never recognized him until he opened his mouth.

Such a sad day.

I adored this man. I tried to explain it once, this adoration I had for him, but the other person just did not understand. He was an ultimate performer. A most excellent artiste. I miss him already

What about Truly, Madly, Deeply he was fabulous in that.

Rickman's brutally uncomfortable interaction with Mr. Bean in Love Actually is as good as it gets. He will be missed.

I can count on one hand the number of celebrity deaths that have affected me deeply. I don't know why this hit me so hard but it sure did.

A tragic loss, how very sad. He will be sorely missed.

Decided to watch Dogma, in which he plays Metatron, the "Voice of God'. I have watched this movie probably a dozen times, love it. The last scene he, God (in the persona of Alanis Morrisett), the muse, Serendipity and Rufus the 13th apostle, all turn and walk into the mist of Heaven. I lost it.

So long Proffessor Snape.....RIP

I loved him as the neurotic robot in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

There was a great story about him told by another actor on a chat show last year. At a children's party one of the children had said "You only play baddies" and in his unique voice he said "No, I play interesting people". Well, they were interesting when he played them. Such a wonderful, cynical voice

For me, the ultimate Rickman role was as the Interrogator in the film "Closet Land" from 1991. It was a really odd film and also kinda scary.

Song of Lunch with Emma Thompson was a lovely PBS Masterpiece show, maybe my favorite of his roles. So poetic. I highly recommend it for Rickman fans. He was my movie star crush and I will miss him.

Back in 1990 I had just bought a new Mercedes and instantly lost my job at CBS News because they were moving the operation from LA to New York.

To make money, I created Star Car and drove actors to and from the set.

Alan Rickman was one I drove for a week.

He stayed at a private little hotel in West Hollywood and I found him very snippy. Very much like many of the characters he played.

I grew up to David Bowie's music and he was and will be fab.

I loved Harry Potter but Alan's best line ever was "Cancel Christmas". There was another from the same film where he said something like "You, my room now, and your sister 10 minutes after".

They say that trouble comes in threes, I wonder who will be number three.
