Why You Think It Sold

Post your thoughts on your sale if you suspect it was directly related to something you did, such as placed it in a contest, added a needed description, changed your keywords or keyword order, or promoted it on the social networking sights such as pinterest, etc...
For instance, if you haven't had any views on a particular image for a couple weeks and you placed it in a contest and it sold that day or the next, that's a pretty good clue that someone saw it in the contest and purchased it...things like that is what I am looking for here.
Please post the image in the thread and then tell us "Why you think it sold.."

I placed "Tranquility" in a contest and sold it within 24 hours, not sure if that is why but it was the first activity I had on the image in several days, so I suspect someone saw it in the contest and made the purchase...

Great idea Karen! :-)

I posted the link (and a preview picture) to the iPhone 6 case of this cow picture on the social network Tsu:

Cow Art Online

I had many likes and comments and some shares. Some days later it sold as iPhone 6 cover: http://fineartamerica.com/saleannouncement.html?id=91258547cc5d376a81e5d2c77dc464f3

Could be lucky coincidence of course but as it sold two or three days after posting on Tsu... :-)

This was purchased by a couple that saw it on Stumble-upon and was just back from a Vacation in Ireland and was near this beach in Kinsale, Co Cork.
Like most of my work, it is purchased from people that have a connection or had visited that area in Ireland. Enjoy.

"Adobe" has had very few views and has been up for about a year and a half. It sold the same day that it placed in a contest. The odd thing is I didn't remember the contest or remember entering it, nor did I receive an email that it sold but I was congratulated on the win and the sale so I looked behind the scenes and sure enough, someone bought it!

Conor, I really love your painting of the cove. Brought back many wonderful memories of Ireland and its people.

Someone saw it and bought it. I don;t deal with the buyers. All I do is create.

I wish I could figure it out. I had the same image sell here and on another site in the same day, this with over 2,000 images on both sites. (not bought by the same person, I thought of that)....I found I had not posted it on a third site, so I did and it sold there yesterday.

I just can't figure it out. In my opinion, it's down on the list of interesting images. I did post it in a couple of contests, but that was quite a while ago.
As far as I can tell, nothing I've sold was seen in the contests, but I don't know that for sure.

I also wish I could figure things out - here I have sold 6 or 7 variations of the panorama above (B&W, with and without fireworks) - however on another site (where I have mail the prints) this has not sold at all. On that other site half of my sales have been of 1 image, which has not sold at all on FAA.

It's really a mystery, Steven. Like here I get no views on black and white and elsewhere I get huge views on black and white. Leaves me scratching my head.....

Oh well, I keep entering the contests anyway just to get seen MAYBE by someone....

A lady saw a small framed print of this local scene in a local gift shop and bought the original:

Red Sox won the World Series in 2013 and the Prudential Center was lit with a Go Sox message - it was amazing witnessing the people of Boston and Red Sox fans streaming towards Kenmore Square and Fenway Park when it was clear that this was the championship night - sold this print twice the next day and multiple times thereafter.

Good light and happy photo making!

I may have something for this thread soon.
Some 6-8 months ago, I sold a print that had just done well in a contest. That's the first time I "credited" a contest with a sale. I just found out recently who purchased that print (I have never known any of the buyers of my works here). It was a design firm that bought it for a project. They recently contacted me about some other prints and we are working together on a new project. At one point during our conversations, the decorator said that it had been her firm that bought the earlier print. Once they get back to me on the current project, I'll ask how they found the other image. I suspect now that it was a keyword search and a total coincidence, but it would be really cool to know that an outside buyer actually perused the entries (or at least the leaderboard) in a pretty targeted audience contest.

Actually I know for sure this was sold because of a contest. The administrator said upfront that she would buy a print of the first place winner and a greeting card for the second (and maybe the third) place winner. Thank you, Kim Peto, for hosting the contest and buying my print!

Greetings Karen, interesting discussion forum. As everyone may remember last year there was an extraordinary event which took place for well over a week just about every day all sales generated here at Fine Art America were from a buyer and or buyers from Houston, Texas area. My guess was an interior decorator of seeking purchases for a newly constructed Hotel, Office Tower it was the talk of Fine Art America. Just about every countless sale had a similar theme, architecture and or was a regional themed artwork or photos. If my memory serves correct all those sales were prints which lead me to believe it was an interior decorator and they would be matting and framing to keep them consistent for future use no doubt for a larger than life project.

There was something bigger than life taking place over in Texas. This massive sale campaign covered all areas surrounding Houston and purchases from the members artist or photographers from all regions of the state of Louisiana and the New Orleans area. With that mentioned sales can follow trends of purchases from all the various regions throughout the United States and abroad. My very first guess was the owner of the Crescent Towers the image of the high rise is on the register of Historic Buildings here in New Orleans and that owner happened to be from the Texas area and had plans to use all those thousands of images which were purchased to hang throughout the historic architecture under renovation. Just as so many sales are generated from the Carolina areas of that region of the United States. None of us ever see all the daily sales generated but you can assume they include all regions and globally.

Another important thing to remember the dedication of fellow members who stay on top of their gallery's and correct "keywords" as you yourself on countless occasions suggested to all of us here, "the importance of doing what each and everyone of us can do to achieve sales, make yourself as a member and work "always visible for that potential sale". It still brings a big smile to my face I did not just sell one, two or three but four images close to 30 x 40 prints. (An amazing first sale) Since that wonderful day, I had other very small sales but at fault of my own, they were images scanned on a scanner in my earlier days and not fully knowing or understanding anything about scanning the proper dimensions they were just 5 x 7's and pretty much forgot they were in my portfolio, but they were still sales!!!!!!

An important thing for everyone to remember it does not "matter" if you belong to a thousand or so groups or not or if you are visible here or not day in or day out. If your "gallery" of art or photography is what the client is looking for they will indeed make those purchases.

Do buyers go to groups and or browse in the discussion the answer to that is "yes they do". Anything we do as members to achieve sales also confirms "Sean's" objectives of success through this site Fine Art America as one of the top leading marketing sites on the inner-net.....as I have so many times stated "its the best a website can be"!!!!!!!

In my gallery of close to 800 images, those purchases were without question images which the potential client had seen in the themed discussions we posted our "art or photography". Since those personal sales, I personally have achieved exactly what my intentions were to make myself known. Since then, my work has been featured in local newspaper, a novel by world acclaimed author, and inner-national Film and Video magazine, and state wide art completion at a very young age. Everyone's success here at "Fine Art America" regardless of thousands or images or just 25 "its what you produce and the "blood, sweat and tears in equity" as they say you maintain your gallery! No member should never "under-estimate their full potential as an artist or photographer"

I have always maintained success through "excellence in the creative arts" since 10 years old, and nothing short of that. Keep in mind it does not matter at all if it is a tiny painted oil or the various mediums, a throw-a-way camera, or the most expensive photographic equipment its value can be hundreds of dollars or multi-millions dollar sale. We are all entitled to receive the recognition of being the creator of the "master piece".

It sold.. It sold.. because it was there... As the person that asked why he climbed a very high mountain answered.. I think it is the theory of chaos..it just happens...not to mention that IT is beautiful and exciting image and extraordinary..the other day ..I was meandering along as I usually do..posting art..and such.. minding my own business checking who was looking at this and that..I noticed one of my images had been looked at twice.. I checked to see who and thought.. crap..kiez germany and beverly hills ..I though oh well.. then I just happen to check my email and holy moly .. it said congrats you sold a phone case..I was thinking huh.. I looked to see the image...it was the one just looked at twice from germany and beverly hills..I thought that is weird.I have so many images online.. why that one..found out ,it is not for us to wonder why but to do,or in this case accept.. that is why it sold.. chaos theory ..lol
