Watch it on Youtube for high resolution.

Great find Cynthia - thanks for posting

Enjoy projection mapping very much -- investigated the process a few years ago -- a bit daunting -- but still under consideration.

I followed up on watching the video & came across their demo of the project.

What an inspiring Sunday morning treat, Cynthia! Thanks!
I'm glad it was in black and white....in color, I would have been teleported back to the psychedelic 60's!

just a little bit of shading and shadow....

i remember when holograms first came out, flat things, rainbow in color, it was 3-d looking. this is the next step. though it needs power and giant robots...

Impressive!

Right Mike? I love how our minds make spaces and pathways where really there are just flat planes. I thought this was really beautiful, and I hadn't seen one done with choreographed robots.

I really enjoyed that - great on full screen. Thanks Cynthia

WOW - wonder what all those retro-minds say who still think computers in arts are false limbs.

Thank you Cynthia, I loved it! I also enjoyed Carmen's contribution as to how they created the magic!

Were those robot arms doing the actual lifting, the same variety that are used in assembly? If so, those flat objects had to be pretty heavy. Flat screen TVs and perfectly timed graphic images, possibly. Beautiful.

... art for the very wealthy, or very well funded, artist.

How do they sell that?

Very impressive.

Oh, I enjoyed and loved that! Thanks Cynthia.

David -- my experience in that is that it is paid for as installation art/exhibit.

I'm assuming they sell the work as any instillation artist would, David. The dvd, flatscreen tvs, and all. Or perhaps in this case it's the patent they would license because the technique looks as if it has commercial application..

I still can't get past how expensive such an installation would be. Where does the money come from for the equipment and technical laborers required to pull it off? What's the electricity bill over a month's time? What's the rental space cost? Projectors? Screens? Lifts? Projector operators' salaries/fees? Custodial costs of keeping it clean?

Artist are great recyclers and first generation robotic arms are available on the used market. Kinetic sculpture - another new medium to explore. Consider programming another brush in the box.

Robert - to help you get past the cost, consider how much it must cost move a Koons balloon animal across country. Or the cost of MoMA's expansion - $850+ million at the moment. Cost is the realm of fund raising department, the NEA and ticket buyers.

One possibility is that grant money is available to help fund these types of projects. And I hope such funding will always be available. It may have been put together in an academic setting where labor and resources are available and/or can be readily borrowed.

i think the camera was also a robot, it would make sense based on everything. i wouldn't mind a giant robot...

Ed,

News to me that the MoMA is expanding. The museum needs a complete work over.
It is very outdated. Some 6000 to 7000 visitors per day. About 3 million people per year. I think
they rank 5th or 7th in the world for number of visitors. There is a list, possibly a wiki list somewhere online.

And Michelangelo was just a guy who pushed paint around with a stick.

Mike Savad

pretty much. they had blocks of stone. they tapped it with a hammer, it became a statue. like on spongebob.

But Michelangelo did it rather well.

By the way the demonstration was very impressive. Recent technological advances have provided many new artistic openings.

I think that eventually everyone will be able to create a virtual world within their homes. You'll be able to sit in the middle of a primeval forest in your living room, or sleep with the stars overhead with the visuals and sounds of an ebb tide in your bedroom. It's gonna be awesome.

Pwehh!!, ... painters, photographers, digital manipulators, .. all calling yourselves "artists", ... all arguing about whose fingers do the most work!

Try doing some real art, ... dance ... the primal, first art, where ONLY your body is the instrument, using big muscle actions and complex coordinated motor tasks using ALL your anatomy, not just your puny fingers and hands. (^__^)

I think the video is really cool, by the way, .. all joking aside, and all concern for cost ignored.
