Is anyone out there an avid fisher(wo)man? Freshwater or saltwater, why not share some fishing related stories and images about the one that got away... ;-)

Here's an image of a coastal trawler from my childhood town the UK to get us started.

Seriously,... at first I thought the title of this post said, "Let's Talk Crap",
... but since we already do enough of that, I will not tarnish the subject of this thread with any further quantity of it.

I'm not a fisher really, but we went deep sea fishing in the Florida Keys on our honeymoon (41 years ago), and I caught a 25 pound Amberjack. Took me 45 minutes to get it in the boat. My husband caught one too, but mine was bigger ;-).
I had the stupid thing stuffed and shipped to my house. I finally gave it away when we moved. It's not that attractive a fish, so I don't really know why I kept it.
Other than that, I've only cleaned and eaten the fish we caught on vacation with friends. I don't mind cleaning fish, but I hate scaling them. The scales get in your hair and you can't get them out.

@Robert: Really! how could you possibly have thought that!
@Mary: Scales in your hair! That was some vigorous descaling!
@Vanessa: Great image!
@Gregory: some mistake, surely!

@ Richard - well maybe my technique wasn't that good. I was using a scaler, kind of looked like a metal claw with teeth, and the scales would fly everywhere, including into my hair. I would find them the next day in the shower LOL.
I've heard people exaggerate their fishing exploits, but I have a photo of that Amberjack SOMEWHERE. now you guys are making me want to go find it.....;-)

AH yes, now what was Gregory carping on about? Lysdexia.
I used to be dyslexic, but I'm KO now.
The only fishing I have done, is to chuck a line off the back of the boat when I have been sailing. Every hour or so I would check it and after a while there would be a fish.
That made a good meal cooked up in some white wine and herbs.

Ok, I found my Amberjack. I don't have my monitor hooked up to my desk computer right now, which is the only computer that's compatible with my old scanner, so I shot the original here with my phone.
My Amberjack was 25 pounds and my husband's was 23 pounds. My one and only "big fish story". This was in 1973. Holy carp, I've been married a long time ;-).
To see it larger (not that you would want to), just click on it and type the password "notforsale".

I once went to a trout farm with a friend who was going to get some fish for supper. The person in charge took me down to the enclosure to pick out a fish, but they were going to bash it on the head so I just said no, put it back!
Crazy really because I like eating fish and it's dead in the market, I just couldn't watch it being killed!

Great images! Glad they're on topic ;D
@Paul: No, no carp in Harwich docks...
@Mary, now they are some handsome fish!

One time I was walking towards the ocean when I heard a loud splash, followed by another, then another. I quickened my step, really curious what it might be. Of course I had my trusty Canon outfitted with a 100-400mm lens with me. Saw a couple of rowboats out there with some guys fishing. I soon realized that it was coho salmon jumping in the ocean...turns out they do this while waiting to head upstream. Not everyone agrees why they do this but some people say it's to knock the sea lice from their bodies. Anyway, they'd jump every minute or so but you never knew where they were going to jump. A fish would jump and the fishermen would row over there and I'd often see salmon jumping behind their backs or from the spot they'd just rowed from. It was kind of comical. Nobody caught anything that day. Except for me...I managed to catch this shot by pre-focussing on a spot where a couple of salmon were jumping. When I look at this shot I imagine the salmon is moonwalking.

I'm an avid angler! Fishing for anything that swims in both salt and fresh waters is what I'd spend most my time doing if I could. Sometimes living life has to take president over keeping a line wet though.
For me the thrill is the same no matter if I'm hooking into the smallest pan fish, or the biggest most elusive game fish I can find. I love it when the line goes tight and the rod bends!
