In Recocgonition To A Fellow Member Gregory Scott!!!!!!!

Greetings members, as some of you may know back in November I opened a discussion wising everyone Happy Thanksgiving and of my personal dilemma. Here is the content of that discussion:

....Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is my Nikon L820 16 pixels....you see the other day I went to the movie downtown and saw Inner Stellar which was a awesome movie. I wonder if any other artist and photographer's have seen it yet.... Abbie have you seen it?...it was released in the UK. After viewing the movie I walked around the mall downtown and took photos of a beautiful Christmas Tree and stars hanging from high above and even a window display, those were my last photos which was over 5 months ago.

When I left the mall downtown I rushed to catch the Street Car and my camera slid off my shoulder and crashed onto the street and now my camera is busted. I am now on social security and involved with the movies.....but it looks like it will be a long time before I will be taking photos again.....yes I do have my 35mm but using a digital camera has just spoiled me rotten, ,,. I have been as good as any 62 year old can be......my camera was going to be shipped to have two things repaired which were under warranty and now I am afraid my camera will not be fixable since it crashed onto the street and will just have to be honest and let the manufacturer know what happened. The camera was not shipped to the manufacturer unfixable it was trashed......I suppose I could make you some extra cookies and leave them on the mantel or maybe get you in the movies if you want, I have a list of casting agents........I hope you get this letter in time.....A retired old man from New Orleans, Louisiana......PS....tell that wonderful buyer who recently purchased one of my prints I said thank you. Could you find something in that beautiful red sack and give them something special this year.....it was a buyer from Naperville, IL......I am so lost without my camera why during the day I go to reach for it and its not there, so I walk around pretending to take photos with a camera that is invisible....People ask, what are you doing and I reply I am taking photos with my invisible camera.... I can not sleep, I toss and turn just thinking about all the photo ops I will miss out on, but I want to say thank you for all the wonderful things you have given to me in the past.........Also I want to wish everyone at Fine Art America a very Happy Thanksgiving and Holiday Cheers, Michael Hoard

Months following I happened to pop into a discussion and another member Gregory Scott saw my post about my not having a camera. Being retired now and on social security and my involvement in motion pictures it supplements a little extra spending money. In my case not enough to go out and purchase a new camera. I do own a Cannon EOS 10 SLR and actually had not touched it at all since I had purchased my Nikon 820 16 pix digital which I was so dependent upon. What can I say there is nothing like taking photos digitally.

To my surprise Gregory had informed me would I like a free camera. Via private email I discussed in detail my situation and because of Gregory's generous contribution I received a beautiful used Cannon EOS 10D with a 300mm macro zoom lens, cables, battery charger and batteries. I was overwhelmed and floored when I opened the box and all the included accessories. After giving Gregory all the info he needed to ship the camera many weeks passed and I received an email from Gregory and the initial camera he wanted to ship to me could not be located. I thought wow this was a great gesture on Gregory's part.

Weeks passed by and I received yet another email, Gregory had informed me he would be shipping me even yet a more advanced camera than the planned camera in question. Thanks to Gregory I am now once again taking photos and even though the Cannon model was manufactured in 2003 and 6 pixels it is taking some remarkable and stunning images which in the near future I will begin to upload.

Since I became involved here at Fine Art America it still amazes me the remarkable contributions everyone goes out of there way day in, day out to help out fellow members. Thank you Gregory and everyone here at Fine Art America who has helped me along the way over the years. I am truly thankful to everyone!!!!!

Cheers and Happy Spring Michael Hoard Actor, Artist and Photographer!!!!!!!

I could not think of any other way to say thank you but recognize you as the masterful photographer of humming birds and your love for nature and pay tribute to a fellow member. Your images of the wilderness and nature inspire me of places to include, my bucket wish list of places to visit and experience and see the natural beauty first hand. Places such as your images in your gallery I have never seen. These are a few of so many stunning photos by Gregory Scott, thanks again Gregory!

Wow, what a fantastic story. Thank you so much for sharing it with us Michael. And Gregory, you ROCK!

Thanks. Most photographers have a spare or three laying around. I encourage you to consider giving or lending that spare you're really not likely to use to a struggling and/or new artist. Like a puppy or a kitten, every camera should have a home were it is loved and appreciated. I told Michael I'd let him acknowledge the gift if we turned it into an opportunity to encourage pholks (fellow photographer folk?) to be alert for similar opportunities. No, its not tax deductable, but I know Michael is a truly creative artist, and know the camera (and zoom macro lens) will be put to good use.

@Edward thank you so much for your comment I am sure Gregory appreciates it also.

Hello Darice, it is truly a remarkable story and generous contribution on Gregory's behalf. We all are impacted by the generous contributions by all members regardless, as I have mentioned many times there is no better place on inner-net such as Fine Art America!!!!!!!! We are all here to offer assistance regardless to what extent. I can not agree with you more Gregory "you Rock".

@Gregory as you have mentioned, does not matter what condition or model camera someone may have lying around and not being used and could find better use than collecting dust. As a fellow photographer and your wisdom I truly value your generous contribution. If my memory serves correct the discussion in general the company in New York B @ H does offer to everyone new and re-conditioned camera and accessories. Members might make a note of that. Thanks again Gregory!

@Rose, thank you for your comments as you mentioned at some point in all our lives a Guardian Angel does exist. I appreciate your wonderful comments.

@Ed, like yourself, I to was teary eyed. It is a wonderful story and it was so deserved to have been brought to everyone's attention. Not to forget about the fellow artist who may have been in a similar situation and a valued treasured painting was damaged or destroyed, or because of finances they too do what needs to be done and continue the creative process to maintain some state of normalcy.

@Valerie, thank you so much for your wonderful comment. I have to mention the camera is identical to my Cannon EOS SLR with the exception Cannon informed me they no longer have the 100 page manual. What I did was spent a week learning how to use the many controls and using the on line manual as a reference. I was also informed my 50mm portrait lens would operate on the Cannon EOS 10D and it does.

I had discovered Cannon does not even make the photo disc and wondered why they never manufactured an adapter to insert the newer modern memory cards. I did find a local camera store which sells them and also purchased a reader which accepts all the current photo chips including the now pretty much no longer used older memory card, I even ordered a back up on line at B @ H 8 MB what is exciting about my camera I can shoot raw images and that is a good thing.

@Shelby, thank you so much for your contribution and I appreciate that so much. As Gregory does mention it is a good thing to go out of your way and assist a fellow artist and photographer regardless if a newcomer or an established member. I wanted to also wish you the continued success you are having as a member here at Fine Art America, your photographic creations are absolutely stunning. I remember so well your enthusiasm then and now here at Fine Art of America and the help you too have received along the way. IMO the contributions of assistance are like none other but here at Fine Art America.

@Gill, sales are no sales I feel alive again and creative thanks to Gregory!!!!! Did I really walk around pretending to take photos, yes I was. If you could have seen the look on people's face, what the heck are you doing.... when I made the transition from Cannon SLR to Nikon 820, not once did I ever have any regrets owning a Cannon Camera yet I was so impressed with the Nikon quality of my images I had taken in less than a year owning a Nikon. Here I find myself once again using a Cannon but a digital and wow I am slowly learning all the features of the Cannon EOS 10D. It will be awhile yet before I post my new images but seeking out new photo ops. I had discovered in my absence of not taking photos since November such as an artist I see a remarkable new approach of seeking and taking new images. Regardless if by fate or otherwise as an artist you get hung up, or as a photographer you damage your equipment, it is ok to step away, it is what it is and remarkably you will see a new outlook of your day to day surroundings and new ideas.... Thank you so much for your comment I sure appreciate them.

Cheers, Michael Hoard Actor, Artist and Photographer.

@Melissa, thank you so much for your comments, I am sure Gregory appreciates that as well as myself. You are correct "everyone deserves something wonderful sometimes" but I never expected anything quite like this from Gregory. The camera is now in possession of grateful and thankful and protective hands. My friends were so surprised when I told them how I came about having a new camera and they were in disbelief and commented what a great guy Gregory is to pass along a camera he no longer had use of.......it is an amazing gesture on Gregory's behalf.

@Loree, I have been smiling ever since opening that box, thank you for your wonderful comment!!!!!

Greetings Janice it is always a pleasure to see you in the forums, I appreciate very much your heartfelt comment and you are so correct, here is a complete stranger other than a fellow photographer and friend on a Artist and Photographers Marketing website. It truly was a wonderful gesture on Gregory's behalf to offer assistance. Since the arrival of the new camera, its been an ongoing new experience learning all the functions of the Cannon EOS 10D, when I received the camera I did not have a photo disk, so for a week I walked around taking photos and reviewing them and then deleting them it was a week ago Sunday I went downtown and a Camera Store happened to have the required photo disc, I had already checked with B @ H and new it would be more than a week before the one I ordered on line to arrive, after paying my monthly bills and budget for April rent, with extra funds I purchased a 8MB disk a bit higher than on line and a disc reader port to transfer my images from the Cannon to my HP lap top. The reader accepts all versions of photographic chips and even micro chips which are now common in most cell phones. The owner of the store gave me what I thought was a decent package for the both items just near $50, it would have actually been much higher for both purchases.... So, a day ago I finally did receive the 8MB photo disk from New York and I have been busy taking photos of the beautiful spring flowers and just as soon as I can do some housekeeping of my photographers websites to make room for new images I will be uploading my new images to share for viewing.

Cheers, and Happy Spring, Michael Hoard Actor, Artist and Photographer

@Marlene, it sure was a wonderful gesture on Gregory's part to ask would I like a free camera. Here is a respected and masterful photographer and I followed through on his gesture and we both made the necessary arrangements. And yes, the excitement is building and I too can not wait to start uploading but as I said I will have to do some housekeeping and make room for posting new images into my gallery. I will keep everyone updated. Thanks again for your comments I and Gregory as well.

Cheers and Happy Spring, Michael Hoard Actor, Artist and Photographer.

@Debbie it sure is an amazing story and very generous on Gregory's behalf. I have been beside myself in the past 5 months unable to take photos. During the lack of a camera, I did have an occasional use and before I could even post them I lost all my images here at Fine Art America and others while doing a factory restore to my lap top. Frantic and stressed out Abbie came to the rescue. Thanks to Abbie I was sent a link and had a week to transfer my original uploads back to my lap top. I had close to 800 images and managed to complete in the 7 days the link was available to me.

All the others I managed to get from my personal Face Book account and images not deleted from my photo disk I used with the Nikon. Hundred of others I had transferred to my computer but images to review where forever lost. They may still be on the backup drive of the hard disk on my HP lap top, but I am almost certain once you do a factory restore they may well be gone. To keep my sanity I let go of what needs to be gone and moved along, it was all I could do. It is what it is, it happened and the memory of taking the images was all I need.

Though I do not have a smart phone, I do now use google+, cloud, HP and all the other free data storage and now anything I upload a backup goes to all of those storage features.....that is a good thing.

Cheers, and Happy Spring, Michael Hoard Actor, Artist and Photographer.
