Description
Till summer comes again by Karen Cook - "I wonder if the snow loves the trees and the fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says 'go to sleep' darlings, till the summer comes again" - Lewis Carroll.
If the snow loves the trees and fields enough to cover them with a white quilt, then it is obvious in this image of the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia after a heavy winter snowstorm. The tree branches are literally bowing to the ground under the weight of the snow and there is a silence to the day. The world is muted...in sound and in color. This is not a black and white photograph but a true depiction of the scene..grey and white in color but still brilliant in beauty.
Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) was an English author of children's fiction. His best known work was certainly Alice in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking Glass.
Did you know he was also a photographer? At a time when photography was a new form of art, Carroll soon excelled at it and considered making it his occupation. His love of language, beauty and poetry would have made him look at the world with such expression.
We will let the trees and fields sleep now under their white quilt..till summer comes again.
