What's The Best Advice You Would Give To A Fellow Artist?

I thought this would be interesting. My friend was interviewing me for a school project they're doing about my art work. The very last question they asked me was "What's the best advice you would give to a fellow artist?" So I'm interested to hear what you have to say. My answer to the question was to "never give up". What's yours?

if they are still in school tell them to learn every type of art they can while they have the resources. even if they don't think its useful, it will creep into their art anyway. you never know when you might need something. and of course learning how to cross apply what you know.

I agree and like almost every artists advice here. My advice is stay in your own vision ,always grow and learn something new, An artist has to have a drive to succeed ,a passion for their work and more ....

If you aren't passionate about it, don't do it. But if you are, be all in. Find others whose work inspires you. Figure out what you like about their work, learn from their technique. Keep finding ways to challenge yourself to improve. Don't be afraid to go for it. Making mistakes is how you learn. On FAA, look at contests. Evaluate artwork. Learn about the rule of thirds, composition, and the use of color. Try to copy the work of the masters to learn from their technique. Be open minded toward the utilization of new methods, combination of traditional and emerging media, technological opportunities, etc.

Vincent Van Gogh ,he never gave up his art! ,but he was poor and Broke, all the time ...

My advice to you, if you are rich ,just do your art you will be recognize by some people ...if that's what you want...

If not rich?...Get another profession ,to make good money !!! And do your art for art not for money!!!

Sincerely mani

Join an art gallery with an active forum. Not only is it an information highway but you will learn from observing other's work, confirmation from some art can be a valid profession.

That, and learn copyright law -- just the basics, so you don't do really stupid stuff without realizing it, and you will know better than to listen to the thundering herds of people who are absolutely 100% convinced of things like, "If it's on the internet, you can copy it."

The basics aren't that hard to learn.

Copyright in the United States: www.copyright.gov. - if you read the "Frequently Asked Questions" page, you'll learn most of what you need to know.

That depends. Do you intend to get married and raise a family?

Then get a professional job and let your art remain your hobby until it starts paying more than your day job.

Then you might consider following your dream full-time.
