Speaking Of Banksy...

I have to admit, living in the theme park/Disney capital of the world, I find this enormously intriguing. Wish it was not so far away so I could see it in person.

Banksy's newest installation:

Hello Valerie, Wow, that is fascinating. He visted New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and painted many murals around town. They are all protected by home owners and business. If your home or business was a chosen one the property is now worth a fortune. I have taken photos of most of them. Some of them is just in walking distance. I too like his work, one of his paintings was on a building remodled and the contractors painted over not knowing the value and destroyed it. They did not know.it was the famous Bansky.

Also I thought I posted or posted the story sometime last year. He did the famous Umbreall Girl a large than life mural and a neighbor happen to notice these two guy working with a jack hammer on the other side of the cylinder wall to the business. Smart thinking on her part and it was bring so much attention another neighbor started speaking to the guys and he asked if he could take their photo. Wouldn't you know by the time the police had arrived there was so much attention the guys left.

That photo of them went all across the country and they found the guys in LA they were going to jack hammer the wall remove it sell it on the black market. They captured and arrested and prosecuted everyone was including the owner of that particular building and it was preserved.

Valerie can image renovating the building you purchase and remodel and then destroy it not knowing and they thought it was graffiti.

An update just two years ago Bansky came to New Orleans around St. Patrick Day prior to his leaving a painting was discovered now protected but many think it is a copy cat but it still remains. Some in the neighborhood think the owner did it over night to increase the value of his home. Its on a stucco wall on the corner.

Thanks again Valerie, I read the entire article and photos great find and thanks for posting......

Hello Valerie, have you ever seen a Banksy in real life? You stand there in awe there is one in particular in the Lower Garden District and if I am not mistaken because after the storm so much graffiti everywhere there was a gentlemen who went around town and was painting over graffiti he meant well but he did not have a permit and I think he was arrested or a citation given. Well on one wall of a private home thank goodness someone saw the good samaritan and was able to stop him. The owner left the original Banksy as is partial painted upon......

Are you coming in town for a convention or vacation? I am sure you have experienced the hot summer all of us have had in the Gulf States region. September here in New Orleans can be hot as June or July

I enjoy Bansky, would check out Dismal Land if I could but...

I'm trying to understand how the value of a house with spray paint on it is going to increase in value. Are there documented sales of Bansky tagged houses selling more then market value?

Edward hello, the good Samaritan was stopped so the actual Banksy was not defaced. I remember so well the story in New York he was actually selling his sketches for $60 dollars I think and it was not until after the fact the city new it was Banksy originals, I do remember in fact he had paid someone to sell them on the sidewalk of Manhattan. Not certain but I do think that is the story.

Yeah MD shared the video a few days ago.

I'm just trying to get my head around the idea that everyone is happy to have a Banksy on their property. What if the owner isn't an art fan?

A quick Internet search just brought up a mobile home that Banksy paid a friend (it was his home) to be able to paint a mural on it. Sold at a Paris auction for $800K or something. But it was small enough to put on a trailer.

I can't imagine putting a house on the MLS listing and saying a feature was spray painted art on one side. As it is they say pools can be a turn off to some buyers.

I would love to see it!
The lady being attacked by birds is fantastic, as is the pinwheel caught up in garbage plastic.

Goes along with the article I posted last week about art becoming experiences. Installations are the thing these days. Being able to say you were there. The actual art itself can be disposable.
