Just An Unsolicited Advise ..navin Joshi

Like every other website, FAA does not have sufficient and interesting TOOLS for the artists. What we have is DIG if you can.

I run some groups and my advice to all arrtists is spend time 10% on groups, 40% on production and 50% on promotion in Social Media, Blogging and even have an AD SENSE account.

I spend $1 a day on ADsense that makes lot of sense to me. (Just check out ADsense offfers through link in your G+ account)

When I do search in FAA data base for popular art, I have seen ART with 0 likes 0 comments 0 features with 1000+ views on TOP.
I check the data for many SOLD links ... many with very little likes or comments but MAJOR with high views ... Views is what you got to get ..

So this Activity Stream is easy for computers to generate but useless for ultimate sales efforts .. just got to get out promote your art at Social media Sites and spend your 50% time there...

Hope you pardon me for unsolicited advise..
Thanks,
NAVIN

Actually, it's an AdWords account for advertising your "stuff" to others.
AdSense is a revenue sharing platform where a publisher (or blogger) puts code on their web pages and google serves up advertising on those sites - and pays a portion of each "click" to the website owner. I started when Google first launched the opportunity about eleven years ago. I also have an AdWords account and do need to get more active promoting some of my niche photographs.

You are certainly right about promoting on our own. The only way to get the word "out there" is to have active streams of promotion efforts going on all the time. I have some "niche" sets of photographs and have created a website and Facebook business page for a few of them. One example is for a beautiful new bridge not far from where I live. The Indian River Bridge in coastal Delaware has a site at http://www.IndianRiverBridge.com and a facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/IndianRiverBridge. I have sold several images of "the bridge" from this gallery: http://uspictures.com/art/all/all/all/coastal+delaware

Here is a sample...

This image also gets periodically shared on other local facebook pages...

I always chuckle when I see people complaining about "insufficient tools". There is nothing anywhere that offers the suite of marketing and promotional tools that FAA does for anywhere close to $30 a year.

I use the shopping cart widget, the facebook call to action and shop pages, the ability to autopost to twitter and facebook for new uploads, the discount codes, the sell sheets... But they don't do the work for you. Regardless of where you set up shop with a POD service you have to promote yourself. I think FAA has the best quality product and one of the best toolsets available outside of working with a licensor who promotes for you.

There are lots of discussions here on the forums where people discuss the meaning/value/application of likes/comments/contests/group participation here on FAA. You may find some of those interesting. There is also a whole lot of great information about how to market your work online with FAA tools and on your own.

I suggest the OP spend some time on the forum rules here, specifically #14
