That Whole "facebook" Thing.....

Seems to have been a lot of discussions on whether Facebook is worth it or not? For me it seems to be and I've mentioned in some past discussions things you can do to make it worth your while like holding contests.

My facebook is by no means as strong as some of you on here but there seems to be an interest on how to get involved in that community, Soooooo....

Right now I am running a one week drawing/contest for a "free" drawing as a promotion.
**I'M NOT PAYING FACEBOOK TO PROMOTE IT""
I am just letting it run its course...my involvement is the time to set it up and monitor it, to share and post to draw attention to it and then the cost of the free print which I can do myself.

If you want to check it out and see/watch how it goes I'm at www.facebook.com/juliesenfart (and, yes, I know...the ending of the name is kinda ironic if you say it all together, but hey, it's just another conversation piece if you know what I mean)

and if you want, while your at it :) like the page and enter the contest....You would love to have a free print of mine, right!!! :)

Nice work off to visit your page. Facebook seemed to be helping a lot in the beginning when I first started on FAA as far as selling but not so much anymore. I think my posts are pushed under the paying people now so I'm not sure if anyone even sees me on Facebook anymore as far as my artwork except for friends. Good luck though, and again your work is beautiul!

Thank you very much Lara :)
Facebook is a tricky social media to stay involved with that's for sure. I have found that to keep people interested and involved you have to offer them something in return...hence the contests every once in a great while. People seem to love to win something (get it for free) I know I do :)

BTW, TY for liking and your entered :)

I will repay in kind to You, Terry & Abbie!!

Parker :) Thank you and best of luck to you also. You will have one lucky winner...very nice photos!

Some people may ask, "why give away something for free", goes against their grain for trying to sell or make money on their art...well sometimes you have to give something away to get something in return. It's called marketing. Why do businesses advertise specials and deals all the time? To get you in their store and to keep you coming back!

After all, why does FAA offer discount codes and promotions?? :) Same reason!

As many people that are on Facebook, it seems silly to me not to use Facebook at all! especially when it can be free.

Contest/Drawing is over!! I have one happy winner!!

FYI, in case you were wondering and I'm sure you probably were not..BUT..the contest reached 934 people and I received 13 new page likes. None of the contest was "boosted" nor a dime spent to promote it.

Soooo, is facebook worth it? I think so :)

Just to play devil's advocate, are those 13 likes other artists who joined the contest or potential buyers?

I suppose, now that I've said that, they can be both...

Julie-
Is there anyway of knowing how many sales on FAA, if any, are a result of this activity (of the contest) ? Forgive my ignorance- I'm obviously not on FB.

*Cynthia, you are quite the devils advocate aren't you ;) Not that I think everyone on FAA should need to know but I will for the sake of this "discussion" and the use of facebook as a free source for marketing one's work - of the 13 during the contest 4 of the "new likes" were other artists pages. For me at this stage in the "Art" world and as someone who is not well known, I consider every branch off the tree a growth whether they be an artist, a lawyer, a housewife or even a teenager. Each branch reaches a new area that I did not have before, a new group of people, a new area of the world ;) I am still very small compared to your 3,897 likes but of my 191, 6 are other artists pages? which means that under 5% of my followers are artists.....

*Bill, I had a print sale from my other un-named site, if it was a result of the contest I have no idea? I have a new commission inquiry which is a direct result of the contest.
