Has anyone had problems with this? I have had three photos of mine get stuck in BOTS after "tweeting" in other parts of the world that end up just staying there and not moving. Meanwhile giving me "thousands" of fake views from the same place! The only way I could fix this was to delete the image and reupload. Quite frustrating!

"..afraid I have no idea what any of that meant."
I think Diana is referring to when an image receives multiple, constant visits from a specific bot. I had an image earlier last year that was hammered by one of the bots from China. The only way I stopped it was to move that image to a pw protected gallery for over a week.

She's just concerned that there are so many bot views recorded that it's virtually impossible to get a feel for genuine views. I suspect the bots are A. Malfunctioning and also B. Not properly registering their browsing activity as a bot (which is needed not to log their visits in the count.) I am not sure of the technical aspects, but there is nothing practical that FAA can do to prevent this. It's the fault of the BOT not following certain industry standards, I believe.

I have some images that have attracted heavy bot attention. The few times I've bothered to look up the IP addresses, they were spam bots. Well it would have to be a pretty sophisticated bot to register to leave a message, so they're wasting their time. But they don't know that.
You're over-thinking things by deleting and/or hiding images from public view. You're not stopping anything except for a customer finding your image and buying it...

They are seen, ok, even if it's a bot.
Are they demaged?
Are they blocked for anybody else?
Not moving? Are they alive?
What is the problem?

"...what is the logic of moving the image?..."
The move to the pw protected gallery stopped the visits. No, it was not causing any problems, I was just tired of the 100's of visits within a few days when I knew it wasn't an actual person (buyer) looking.

.........wasn't an actual person ( buyer ) looking. Take that away and I have nothing.......

I was getting over "thousands" of views from the same "BOT".... NO real views by real people! I feel there was definitely a big glitch... almost like a record that has a scratch in it! I had to delete the image and upload to free it. Cause there were no other views from anywhere else except the botched BOT!

all you really achieve by deleting and re-uploading is hurting yourself because all links to that image you put out there for marketing are now broken.

NO, I don't believe so... I see what you are saying, but it was stuck there and not moving to anyone who could view it! The Bot basically broke the link.

you don't know how many people snuck into the middle, just count the views as a bump up in the system some how. hard to know why they feed on certain images like they do though.

One of my images was stuck in a bot in China and another one stuck in Beverly Hills California.

If you tweet, you will get mostly bot visits. If your work gets "stumbled" (on stumbleupon.com) similar things sometimes happen. I once had an image get over 1,000 views in a couple of hours. Over 60% of all internet traffic is from bots.
A few of the bots are useful as they do work for google and other search engines and that is how people will find your work on the internet. Most of the other bots exist for their own purposes of gathering social media data and stats, etc.

I don't think moving an image to a password-protected gallery breaks links permanently - only changing the title does that.
no, links don't break that way. but it still makes no sense at all because you are robbing yourself of a chance of a sale. why be bothered at all what a bot does? so what if a bot is in love with an image.
It breaks the link enough that search will lose it, here or Google. Bad business decision

It sounds like the OP thinks that when a bot is going to a link, that no one can go the link at the same time?

It is just very, very strange..... So NOW it is happening again!!!! To the same image. It just shows 500 or so visits from Beverly HIlls, California... "and counting" no visits from anywhere else.

Beverly Hills is not ONE person nor one bot
It is a router for many connections
Your work is being viewed and very likely because it has been shared.
There is no point in watching visitors like this. FAA visitors show the location of the server routing signals. One town may be routing many areas which is why you are not always seeing where a person is actually from. Some providers go in a straight line - MY HOUSE to SITE. Others use several. MY HOUSE to BEVERLY HILLS to NEW YORK to SITE
Just watch Google Analytics on a premium account if you wish to see a more accurate statistic

I really enjoy Google analytics and everyone should go behind the scenes and sign up for this valuable information.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the bots Diana. You are misinterpreting what they do. What they DO NOT do is "stick an image so that it cannot be viewed". They have no power to do this.
You just need to adjust your thinking about their purpose... and do not delete and re-upload your image. That will get you stuck more than any bot would. It is also a waste of precious time.
I reminds me of something my mother was concerned about regarding viruses. Though she was "not on-line" she was concerned about getting one. Pretty much impossible to do unless you're connected.

Speaking of Google Analytics - mine doesn't work. I get the email from FAA, but it always has 0's. I have not been looking at it or thought it was worthless, but probably I should be using it. Have I not set something up I should have? What am I missing?

I have a stat counter account that always shows me a bunch of zeros. Maybe that's what is being referred to? Different than Google Analytics.

Oh, Okay... thanks everyone!!!! I was only skeptical cause it was happening with just one/two images at the most out of 1,300 that I have for sale, which was different from all the rest... Thanks, feeling better about it!

Can we make a poster of this to post every time people ask this question?
