Keywords?

Hello!

I'm relatively new on here, and was wondering how people generally come up with keywords for their work? I get the standard ones that directly describe the image, but I seem to always end up with a few. I've tried looking at some of the top pictures that come up when I do a search in the same category, however a lot of the words seem like they don't belong at all? Thoughts?

There are a few free keyword tool sites on the web that will get you thinking. Are you coming up short on words?

To add: The key to effective keywording is to use all the terms – and only the terms – that are clearly conveyed by the content and context of the image. When keywording your files, take care to include terms that describe the main content, what it's doing, where it is, what concepts it conveys in your image, and how the image is composed.

Catherine, I try to pretend I am describing the image to a blind person and it helps me to describe the subject, colors, action etc in a greater amount of detail...
I also try and describe the emotions I feel when looking at the image...

location, subject, items, day/night, objects, people, places, things - anything that you see in the image

Photography Prints
trumpet,horn,brass,instrument,score,music,musician,jazz,melody,funnel,still life,your name, band,concert (iffy)

then you can look up what kind of trumpet it is, maybe the type of music played as long as its not too far off, other names for this horn and so on. it depends on the scene.

Jeffrey: For example this picture

Photography Prints

I have trumpet, music, antique, sepia, bach, and instrumental. I'm sure there's lots of other things however I'm not quite sure how to come up with them.

Karen: That's a good idea! I use that when writing description into stories, don't know why I didn't think to use it here as well.

Mike: seems like we had the same picture in mind :) is it ok to use terms like Jazz if the music in the background is classical because the trumpet can be used to play jazz? (it's a Bach Stradivarius which is why I included Bach in my description)

Don't forget:

Sheet music, musical scores, musical arrangements, classical music, brass instruments, musical instruments.

Think outside the box :)

I HAVE JUST JOINED THIS DISCUSSION AND I REALLY AM PUZZED ABOUT THE KEY WORDS. I USE THE DESCRIPTIVE KEY WORDS AND I FOUND I GET A LOT OF VIEWS WHERE SOME ONLY GET A FEW VIEWS, ALSO WHY THE SAME PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES AND CITIES VIEW MAY B 10 OR 12 TIMES AND DON'T PURCHASE THE PIECE?? ANY SUGGESTIONS?? SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS

Rondahl,

You may have 'web bots' indexing your work for the search engines. Think of them as computer programmes that work for Google and the like, indexing millions of pages each day. They are a good thing for us.

Keywords for manipulation of Google Inc and Microsoft Image searches. There is no rationale except for this.

JPGs have the ability to have internal keywords but this is not taught or is not generally done.

I also try and describe my image using single words imagining that someone that can't see it.
If I get stuck I then use, http://www.microstockgroup.com/tools/keyword.php and also http://www.arcurs.com/keywording
I do make sure that when using those keyword finding sites that I only use ones that relate to the image I'm trying to find words for.
Sometimes the words come easily and other times a little help is needed
