I know how you lot just love labels so much...
Anyhow... I was making a cup of tea, waiting for the kettle to boil and arranging the clutter on the worktop to the strict formula which is the Golden Mean..... As you do!... or do you??
That magic number.. that golden ratio.. 1.618033988. Said to be the "key" to beauty!
Do I have O.C.D.? an obsessive compulsive disorder..
Or is it O.C.D.?? an obsessive creative disorder..
or maybe O.C.D.??? an overly chatty disorder..
Or is this just normal behaviour???? Do you also do this or have similar quirks?

I blame the overly chatty disorder on the medication I'm taking for the treatment of sciatica... It keeps me up all night and I have nothing better to do but surf some art and talk O.C.D.B.S. :o(

It really is like arranging a still life.. move the butter smeared knife to the left a bit... turn the handle on that cold half mug of coffee to roughly half past four.. clear away some of the bread crumbs..but only some! because they provide balance to the scene and contrast nicely with the spilled black pepper...lol

Barry,
You know what 1.9419 is?
That's a stripped down version of pi divided by phi.
Save that number it may come in handy.
Now, I have to go back to cleaning this keyboard.
Blame it on Catarrh

Keep chatting, Barry......it's only 4.15 Friday for me, I'm listening. And am so sorry about your sciatica.......but glad your kitchen is a major still-life artwork, now, lol. Very rewarding.
Yes, I'm not tidy but everything adds up to Pi.........

LOL Roger... There's nothing worse than losing the catarrh.... "It must have landed somewhere. I know a bit came out!".. ( Old Catarrh Dangling..?.. :-)
Vivian.. you clearly have the key to beauty...it shows in all your work!. :-) good news on the sciatica front.. I know exactly what's causing the pain now having just recieved my MRI results and I can now start to use some of the great advice I was given from the users here! Time to get the leotard out.

Serious question on forum? Does this cause you enough distress you want to seek help? Has it affected your life to the point of it being destructive in some way? The key with actual OCD is the anxiety induced by the compulsions and how it might negatively affect your life.

Talk to shrink?
LOL.. erm.. No. It doesn't cause me any anxiety. If anything I would say it's quite relaxing.. a cure for anxiety! It's certainly not destructive... quite the opposite..and as far as being a negative factor in my life...well... the kitchen IS prettier and the kettle seemed to boil quicker too..so nope! :-)
edit: Besides.. based on the great advice I got for sciatica, I'd guess that the FAA members could probably do a better job on me than any shrink!.. and a hell of a lot cheaper too!

Now that your kitchen counter appliances are in beautiful balance take a picture of it and let us see it! Lol I talk to myself all the time! Here's to a speedy recovery!

:-) Yeah, I'll do that soon Suzanne. Right now I'm heading off to the doc's to discuss my future mobility and maybe get some less stimulating meds.. He seems intent on having me cut open but I'd prefer that to be a last resort!

Hi Barry.
I heard of a new psychiatry hot-line.
When the automated menu comes on you are giving these choices:
If you suffer from multiple personalty disorder, press, one...two...AND three.
If you suffer from Obsessive/Compulsive disorder. Press four. Repeatedly.
If you suffer from paranoia don't bother pressing anything at all. We know who you are, and we are coming to get you now!

I've always been a little jealous of my friends with OCD. Their houses are so much cleaner than mine.

for certain things, like the:
checking the door ritual, did i lock it? i pushed twice while turning the knob in two directions. and saying locked outloud. or did i do those things at all, and did i think of doing it when i didn't do it at all, gotta get out of the car and check a second time. i change the routine but it doesn't matter.
checking to make sure i put stuff away on the counter and the burners are off by checking it a few times, just in case i did it in my mind, and it was all imaginary.
there are probably others, that i'm not really aware of. other than making sure everything i do has a certain level of detail that no one would at all notice. like adding screws to steampunk things, making sure none are turned in the same direction. making sure gears mesh, and everything seems to be attached. making sure it's physically possible to make a device, and stuff like that. and lately it's making sure the shadows and highlights are in the right places, along with reflections of near by light sources.

Barry, I've never noticed you obsessing over anything here on the forums.
Really.........really. .....he he he

Sometimes I have to check to make sure I am not Mike.
I know he wouldn't see that - but he often speaks my thoughts, so I do a double check.
Ok, so Mike- you want the screws facing all different directions... ?
Shouldn't they at least be in a rotational clockwise order going across the page from left to right ?

I don't have TOO many OCD things, but every time I go somewhere, I have to check up to three times before I lock my car that I have the keys in my purse.
Locked myself out a couple of times.....
I just wish I could get my husband to pull the shower curtain closed after he gets out of the shower.....
But arranging things by the golden mean? No, I had never considered that....hmmmmm

Yes I am OCD when I leave town. I actually almost got out of town and had to turn around because I wasn't sure if I locked the door or turned the coffee pot off.
OCD when leaving anyplace I am responsible for. Like April I sometimes wish I were more so, my house would be cleaner.
Nope, I know I'm not OCD. But, I don't think I have OCD. If I occasionally check something more than once doesn't mean I have OCD, it probably just means I was consumed with something and not paying attention to what I was doing. I don't get the "compulsion" to repeat an action over and over.
@ Mary - did you know the keys were in your purse but you had to check again and again?
@ Sydne - The question is... did you go back more than once to check that door and coffee pot, knowing you were already there to check previously.
I'm with Sydne who agrees with April - I wish I had the compulsion to clean!
Edit @ Mary - scratch that! LOL, I misread what you said when you said you have to check it 3 times. Obviously, you knew :)

Barry... you are right about the golden ratio being subconsciously perceived as beautiful. As Suzanne has suggested, take photos of those still life areas and post them to your account. Those are the type of images that people will stop at [ they don't know why ] and if the time is right they just might hit the buy button [ but they won't quite know whey ] ;O)

I simply can not begin a new painting until I sit down with a razor scraper and clean my plastic palette.
