Copyrighting Pi And Zazzle

Apparently, someone has trademarked 'Pi." and Zazzle is removing all products containing the symbol for pi. (Sorry I can't type the symbol, which has not been trademarked, because it isn't on my keyboard.) But the trademark and Zazzle's actions are ridiculous.

I received a note from Zazzle containing the following:

"Unfortunately, it appears that your product, Apple Pi, contains content that is in conflict with one or more of our acceptable content guidelines.

We will be removing this product from the Zazzle Marketplace shortly. The mathematical symbol “pi” is a registered trademark, U.S. Registration No. 4473631. For more information on the trademark, please visit the United States Patent and Trademark Office at: http://www.uspto.gov/. "

Apple pi, is a wonderful pun if you don't mind my saying so. But it's just one of many images I have on Zazzle. This poor fellow on the other hand has a whole line of Pi products:

Thats mental... how does one get a trademark for a mathematical symbol? I want the addition sign...

I want the semicolon or the parenthesis (I tend to think and write with and in them a lot); obviously they are associated with me.

thing is the trademark is for pi period.

not just pi. but zazzle is removing everything blindly - like always. the trademark is for a certain shape and the dot. as someone said on the forum, he's going to trademark all the number 1-10, followed by the alphabet with a dot on the back, and he'll make a fortune.

Just like amazon patented the taking of photos on a white background.

Mike, yes it is just for pi followed by a period. The symbol itself is not trademarked. So yes, Zazzle is being stupid.

Yeah I know Zazzle does it. My "millitary horn" went by the wayside because the U.S. Army is one of their brands.

I am going to trademark the © symbol. Or if I can't do that then ©. The addition of a period should be enough. This is what happens when web sites think they are trademark lawyers and judges folks. This is what everyone wants on FAA.

And what about the microcomputer Raspberry Pi?

I hereby call dibs on the exclamation point!

I demand you people stop using it! Right NOW! !!!!!!

With that type of stupidity, it does make me wish that Pixels would catch up with the products at this point.

You choice was wise Walter! That will be the last I use it. ;o)

There used to be this guy's name on just about everything..... Pat Pending, that was him, he must have owned a lot of copyrights...

Does this mean that at tea and bake sales and country fairs all over rural North America people will no longer be allowed to sell pi(e)?

Here it is

it's not the "fancy" pi symbol - but alt + 227 works - at least on my windows 7 computer.

I AM GOING TO TRADEMARK CAPITAL LETTERS (ALL FONTS).

I WANT $1.00 IN DAMAGES FOR EVERY SINGLE CAPITAL LETTER USED.

HELL WITH IT...

I am going to trademark lowercase letters as well. But I won't be a jerk about it. I only want 25 cents for each of those violations.

Description of Mark: The mark consists of the pi mathematical symbol followed by a period.

Here is a good write up about the stupidity of Zazzle. http://www.daveexmachina.com/wordpress/?p=8880

The song " happy birthday " is copy wrighted... which seems silly, but don't worry the copy wright only last 50 years.

Certain frases are copy writed...

So weird that they would take that down and not some of the stolen art work.. It was a discussion in the zazzle chat room

It appears the stupidity of Zazzle is exceeded only by that of the USPTO, itself. :(
