Can anyone tell me if they've noticed anything positive coming out of their pinterest marketing? I've heard all the bad stuff about image theft. That being said, what's driven ME crazy has been the @mentions where apparently computer generated hacks come in and wipe away the @mention to myself. I was thinking of quitting when I noticed that when I pin from Saatchi Online that does not happen. I guess Sean should be aware of this...
Any feedback of your experience with this?

i can't say anything positive because there is no way to know. however you can't avoid it, and even if you shut it off, they will take the images from google, the search here, or any other place where the code is not. that's why i gave in. at least now i can hope they will take it from a place that they can buy it from.
i'm not sure what you mean by @mention.

It scares me but I've given in because like Mike says if theres a will theres a way......I was seeing my stuff on pinterest even when I didnt have the option turned on here on FAA....people were still finding my stuff and pinning.....so I surrendered. I've come across my drawings often lately on pinterest......drawings I have never sold....It's not generating sales for me whatsoever. If by mentions you mean your name and link to your website....this scares me too because Ive seen artwork by some of my idols with tags and "artwork by: with the wrong name under it...this is most likely happening with a lot of peoples art.
I started pinning my work with my name and links so hopefully if there are pins of my work without mention of me there are other ones throughout pinterest that eventually show up and it puts a face and name to the art. (not saying this will make a difference...its for my own conscience)

Sheena, there is a way to report copyright violations on Pinterest. If someone posts an image created by you and says it's someone else's you should certainly report it as a violation. I have found a lot of our pieces on Pinterest too and decided we needed an account there. I will certainly report to Pinterest if I find any images with a wrong artist's name attached to them. Here is their link explaining how to report Copyright problems:

I don't have a pinterest account, but I do have the buttons turned on for people who want to pin my images from here. My most popular image has 4390 pins and not one sale. So, in my world at least, it seems people like to pin things (especially waterfalls), but they don't buy them.

When I wrote @mention I mean that when someone writes @MaggieVlazny it should bring them to my website or pinterest page.. Instead it often
goes to some bogus site with a bot type name and nothing else on it. So frustrating bz that kills a possible sale.
On the other hand, is it a copyright violation? There's no claim of ownership on it. Just a purposeful redirect.
I have actually posted images, and when done immediately looked at the description and saw the bogus @mention appear
almost simultaneously as I wrote. So I erased it and another one or two appeared! Again I think its an FAA problem
because with my Saatchi online account this doesn't happen.
Report to Pinterest? They have a notice that says "we're aware of the @mention problem and to hit subscribe to be
kept updated on their repair efforts. Right...
I stay on it bz there are a LOT of people who are not artists who might want to buy something! Argggghhhh!

Maggie, they are indeed quite slow to respond. I had to wait a week when I contacted their support on another issue and all I received was what looked like an automated reply with an apology stating that they were still working on the problem. The problem was no longer there, however, by the time they replied, so I was happy.
If they are already aware of your problem there is little you can do, really. In all their e-mails they always mention they have a small team so who knows when and if they are going to get your particular complaint. It probably depends on how many people keep bugging them about it. I can only promise you that if it ever happens to our account I will :)

I'm a little not too happy at this moment. People are getting creative with their Pinterest sites.
I found my Zebra piece on " Cakechoosers" apparently offered for sale as a cake topping. BUT.... they have " Pin its" under all the products, using everyone else's products for advertising I guess. But what is on that site - is not on their Pinterest.......
I will put a complaint through Pinterest, but I don't know ....
Otherwise, I like Pinterest.

I closed mine.............if they want to steal, they have to come here instead.............there's something wrong with the premise of that place, that one's works links are not 'required' for sharing there.......just saying........am enjoying less headaches..........

Thought I would share a funny Pinterest moment..... I just checked my account and new followers and low and behold Hillary Clinton started following me.... Yes Hillary Clinton LOL actually it's a Hillary Clinton 2016 campaigning website using Pinterest to find supporters... Funny because I'm a Canadian and can't vote for anyone in the USA.... however it's interesting to see how early the campaign war rooms start campaigning..... This is not a political comment as I've said before, I'm Canadian.
As far as using Pinterest to get your art seen, if it's good enough for Hillary, then it's good enough for me...

I couldn't figure out why one of my photographs was getting so many views registering on my FAA pages and it was because I have pinned it to my Pinterest page from my AW page and now I get lots of views there and has had 108 pins. No sales, but views are a start maybe - they come in and maybe look around and see something they like. There is a tool you can add to your browser that will allow you to pin almost anything from a webpage so even if you turn off the Pinterest button on your FAA/AW page, you can't hide from the one people use on their browsers.

If people are concerned about people stealing a 900px image off the web and making a print of it, just don't put it up for them to grab. But that is kind of like a painter refusing to put his art work on display for fear someone with a camera will take a cheap snap shot of his painting instead of buying.
I don't need pinterest to grab an FAA image, all I need is your FAA image page, my print screen button, and a photo editor to crop it. It makes for a pretty lousy print, especially with the water mark in it, but that point seems to get lost in these fear fests about pinterest.
Sigh....

Pinterest is mostly a site for saving and organizing images that inspire, and for finding more inspiration. Most people who 'steal' images do so inadvertently and will never do anything with them except look at them on a rainy day. That being said, when I look at the stats for my website/blog, about half of my visitors come from Pinterest. Whether any of this leads to sales or not is hard to say. Rather than having someone else snipping a piece of mine off the net and pinning it, I prefer to pin my own images, where I can make sure my name and links are associated with it. I have a Board on Pinterest with various articles and resources about the ins and outs of Pinterest, how to protect yourself, and how to market yourself with Pinterest.
