CHAPTER ONE - GOLD CAN GLITTER BUT IT CAN'T SING
THE DAY WAS JULY 27TH IN THE YEAR OF THE LORD 1862.
.....
He was all eye balls as he crouched down behind the back wheel of the overturned stage coach. A tangled mess of rigging, dead horses and bodies were scattered all over the hill side. He shook his head in disbelief, what a god damned pitiful sight, he quietly said to himself as he checked for a pulse on the bloodied man laying half buried under the stage. He assumed he was the driver by the fact the man's hand was still grasping the heavy leather reins, or what was left of them. Pulled tight to the breaking point, damn near cutting his hand in half. Nope, dead too, he quietly breezed out along with sigh. He pulled his hand away and wiped the dead man's blood off onto the man's shirt. It was hard to tell what killed the middle aged, grey haired driver, short of turning the stage upright there was no way of knowing for sure and he was not about to do that by himself. Not a one of the four men were alive, crushed under the debris or just from the impact of the crash or from the bullets holes that they all seem to be riddled with. He scanned the road above him again for more signs of life as any movement in the trees or foreign sounds would send him out of the way in a hurry; he was not becoming number five on the deceased list that was for sure.

Evokes not only the Old West but, somehow, the Bon Jovi song too even though that's about a rock star. Very stylish and atmospheric ! fv
