Chapter one Gold can glitter but it cant sing
The day was July 27Th in the year of the Lord 1862.
.....
He had seen the Indian women when they had been out hunting a week or so before. She had been picking herbs and gathering plants unaware that he had been watching her through the trees on the edge of the thicket. She was gathering some kind of weeds and filling up a leather bag she wore tied around her waist. She seemed to be alone at the time and when she finished, she just hopped on her horse bareback and rode off across the creek in a southwest direction. Thats where hed try to find her now, it was the only clue he had as to where the Indians camp might be located. The moon was coming up full and the twilight of the evening cast shadows on the ground as he walked Blue across the gravel creek bed on the far side of the lower meadow. Oh where oh where would the Indian Camp be, he quietly mumbled under his breath. He constantly scanned the country side looking for any sign of life, but wild wilderness was the only thing he found.

Beautifully done. Due to a family history among the Hopi and Navajo, this subject matter always interests me. v/f and my CAT in the MOUSE group for today.

Barbara, Wow, what a name... Yes, that is quite a handle! Are you a fashion designer too? Thanks for sharing your story! So interesting!
Barbara St Jean replied:
Thanks, fashion designer.... Couture is Couturier which means clothier. The Coutures were involved with the fur trade and fashion industry in France. I am not personally involved but many of my family still are. Haute Couture... My father took the name Bellerive and was a Small Craft designer (boats). :-))

Barbara, this is a nice image! I like the frame within the frame look! Your title says " Legends of "MY PEOPLE" is this "your" people or just the title? I'm always interested in people's hertiage, just wondering... Fav'd and voted of course!
Barbara St Jean replied:
Great question Kym! My maiden name is Haute Couture dit Bellerive...(what a handle ehy...LOL) anyways, our family history is very tied to the Metis as we came to Canada originally in 1530 from France and founded Quebec where the men married (had children) with the native community. So by rights we are the original Metis and Jesuits (Poor knights of Christ). Many books have been written about us. The Saint Jeans are also Metis and have an equally long history. Our families have been crossed since our time in France together. Thanks for asking and if you'd like to know more I'd be happy to share.. :-)), Cheers, Barbara
