Description
"On Eagles Wings" photographed by Robin Erisman. This photograph was taken at Squaw Creek Wildlife Refuge located near Mound City, Missouri. Squaw Creek has a 10 mile auto tour that goes around a large body of water. Bald eagles are frequent at this location, especially the months of December and January. The bald eagle has been the national emblem of the United States since 1782. It is common to see the regal bird soaring while looking for food. The diet of the bald eagle consists of fish, gulls, waterfowl and mammals. The adult bald eagle has a white head and tail with brown wings and bodies. The young eagle (immature eagle) is mostly dark, including head and tails. The legs and bills on these birds are bright yellow. You will mostly find the bald eagle around lakes, rivers, coasts, and near marshlands.
