Description
Mabry Mill is an iconic stopping point for travelers on the Blue Ridge Parkway In the southeastern Virginia mountains. Specifically, it is located at milepost 176.2 in Floyd County. The Mill is noted for its esthetic setting with picturesque views of the mill with its reflection in the pond, and has become quite the favorite tourist attraction along this stretch of the Parkway. It is seen here as spring comes to the Blue Ridge Mountains in southwestern Virginia.
Built by E. B. Mabry around the turn of the 20th Century, the mill began as a blacksmith and wheelwright shop, soon becoming a sawmill and gristmill. Mabry completed the mill in 1910 when he finished the front to include a lathe for wheel hubs, another lathe for tongue and groove joints, a planer and a jigsaw.
Mabry died in 1936, and left a legacy along the Blue Ridge Parkway of a time not so long ago in our history, along with one of the most photographed and painted scenes in the Appalachian Mountains.
