This print is beautiful. It's a commonly depicted subject, but it is very special. The composition, tonal quality, and movement are exceptional and evocative. The piece is true to it's title... breathtaking!

I have wanted this for my pro life bulletin board at my Catholic Church and I wasn’t disappointed. It is beautiful and it has so much meaning put in a picture. A picture speaks better then words and this picture says it all. Thanks
Artist's Description
The Golden Silk Spider also known as Florida Banana Spider is relatively harmless. They are not prone to attack or bite people or pets. They are one of the largest species of spiders (not classified as tarantulas) in North America. There are called golden silk or banana spiders because of the yellow colored silk web that they weave.
About Roger Wedegis
Please visit and like my Facebook Page As you can see most of my paintings incorporate a Lab in some whimsical way. Living with three, they are a constant reminder not to take things to seriously. As I do all my painting outdoors, I am forever being interrupted by a juicy tennis ball in my lap and cold wet Lab nose poking my elbow. In spite of or because of all the help from my furry friends, I’ve had a continuous supply of inspiration and have been able to share with collectors all over the world. With my photographs I explore my everyday surroundings to reveal interesting and fun light, angles, and colors. I believe it all tells a story. Michel Verhoef
Since this is a macro shot it should not be too big...I have heard of spitting cobras but spiders ???? That is something for Wikipedia I guess to clarify...
Roger Wedegis replied:
Michel, even though this is a macro, this girl was about as big as my hand. I didn't get close enough to be spit on!!!
Christy Usilton
Growing up in south Florida, I so hated running into their webs while playing in the woods. Oh they seemed huge and oh so creepy. The Florida rural legend was that if they spit in your eye you would go blind.... now I don't know if spiders spit or not ... haha. VF
Roger Wedegis replied:
Thank you Christy! I don't think I'd care to have a spider spit at me, harmless or not!
Barbara St Jean
That's a scary looking creature. We have Black Widows and they bad enough, would not want to find that in my bed!! Great capture! F/V
Roger Wedegis replied:
Thank you Barbara! I'd stay away from the black widows, but these guys are supposed to be harmless :)
Roger Wedegis
Thank you Luke, it must be her hairy knees that give the creeps!
