Description
Arteries of liver. Coloured ultrasound scan of some healthy hepatic arteries of the liver. Three hepatic arteries (dark red) are visible on the liver's surface. The liver has a diffuse scattered pattern of even size and intensity. The liver, the largest internal organ in the body, regulates the levels of most of the main chemicals in the blood, such as glucose (sugar). It also produces proteins for blood plasma and, along with the kidneys, clears poisonous substances from the blood. The main hepatic artery brings a quarter of the output of oxygenated blood from the heart. Ultrasound scans use high-frequency sound waves to create images of the body.
