Description
Like most lighhouses of the Outer Banks, this is not the original Bodie Island Light, the first succumbing to a combination of a poorly constructed foundation and the southward migrating Oregon Inlet, and the second to the Civil War (Confederate soldiers blew up the second lighthouse to prevent Union soldiers from using it to their advantage). Standing at one-hundred fifty-six feet tall, each horizontal stripe is twenty-two feet in height. Apparently the inside plaque still reads "Body Island Lighthouse," which tourist lore (and perhaps reality?) attributes to (and marketing campaigns have capitalized on with the Graveyard of the Atlantic bit) the bodies that would wash ashore from the high number of ship wrecks in the nearby seas.

I really appreciate the good words, Randy! I saw this scene as my friend and I approached the lighthouse by vehicle and immediately ran over and snapped it as quickly as I could before the golden light left the tree tops. Turned out that I only got a few frames with the warm golden tones and this was one! Thank you again for the great words.

A very resplendent imagery, Mark! I love the trees trying to match the towering lighthouse, and the reflective imagery is divine! What a glorious piece of work! You got the big "Elvis" F/V on this masterfully captured scenic wonder. Congrats on a very worthy sale!
