Description
During October of 2018, Janet and I visited the south rim of the Grand Canyon National Park, located in Arizona (USA). One of the many viewpoints we stopped at, was Shoshone Point, two miles southeast of Yaki Point. To get to this spot, one has to take a 20 minute walk, along a one mile unpaved (rocky, uneven, but level) road or path, through open ponderosa pine woodland.
At the end of the path, the cliffs form a narrow point of high land, that juts out from the plateau, and offering views of more than 180° of the Grand Canyon, a vista usually appreciated without any other visitors.
Here we are looking east from this scenic viewpoint. I decided to paint this view to showcase Angel's Gate, as late afternoon light illuminated it and Hewitt Butte. Behind it you can see Wotan's Throne as well as Vishnu Temple.
We can also look down to the lower plateaus and see Grapevine Creek as it empties into the Black Granite Gorge and Colorado River. Janet loves viewing the Canyon through the trees as we see here, and I agree.
I have learned to love doing little 8x10 inch paintings of Grand Canyon. It is challenging, requiring very precise strokes with small brushes.
This small painting will serve as a study for a future 32 x 48 master work of this view. It will be named Angels Gate Aura!

Love the framing with the trees and the sunlight in the distance! Beautiful!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Many times I try to paint just what we saw that very day, Roseanne. This takes me back to a beautiful afternoon at Grand Canyon on October of 2018. Thank you for your kind words on this!

Love how you made it seem you came upon this view after hiking through the forest. Beautiful work once again Jerry!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Actually, you walk along a US Forest service dirt road for a mile to see this view, so you are right, Elizabeth! Thank you as always for your visit and comments.
