Description
Calcium in heart cell, fluorescence deconvolution micrograph. A fluorescent dye, fluo-3, has been used to highlight calcium levels, from low levels (green), to high levels (red). Muscle cell contraction is triggered by rising calcium levels, in this case triggering the beating of the heart. This sequence (left to right) shows the inrush of calcium as the heart muscle cell contracts.
