The End Is Nigh!

The Earth is set to experience a rare blood supermoon and lunar eclipse combo on 27 September. According to space.com, this will be the largest full moon of the year. It will also pass through Earth's shadow, resulting in a total eclipse of the moon which will be visible on the evening of 27 September in North and South America, and the early morning of 28 September in Europe. The moon will have a red tinge, and will appear brighter and 14% larger as a result of the perfect timing of the astronomical events.
This is dubbed a 'blood supermoon', where the moon does not go completely dark during a lunar eclipse. Instead, light is refracted and scattered onto the surface, and because red light scatters the least, the moon appears to be a red or copper in colour.
This event will have an effect on Earth's tides – the lunar perigee (term for the moon making its closest approach to Earth) can lead to higher tides and greater variations in high and low tides.

However, as with many astronomical phenomena, an end-of-the-world prediction is accompanying the rare occurrence.
The Blood Moon Prophecy was first predicted by Christian minister Mark Biltz in 2008 and then echoed by John Hagee in 2014, who said that the blood moon acts as a type of omen and originates from the Book of Joel, which reads: "The sun will turn into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes."

I saw Venus, Mars and Jupiter last night at 5.30am, not excatly in alignment but pretty close in low sky, looking East, the skies were completly clear... i felt humbled to see the solar planets twinkle like stars with the naked eye.

ps im no eexpert though, it could have been a passing stationary ufo or birds with their lights on hovering.. mind you Venus was very very bright

edit: to clarify-

as in the star map i saw jupiter and venus very bright, regulus was slighly up in position to mars, both quite faint. first time ive seen them just by chance i opened the window and looked out.

edit2: yes i was

If Bible prophesy is being used as the suggested "end of the world" there is no end until the seven years of tribulation are finished, then there will be a 1000 years of Christ ruling, then Armageddon. After these events the new earth and heaven will be created. Revelation clearly points these events out chronologically.

Although somewhat confusing with your "end of the world" statement which seems to indicate to be on the 27th. I agree after reading your post over again the blood moon is very likely a sign in the earth which happens before and indicates the eminent chain of events listed above which has been confirmed by prophesy over and over again.

I need to clear up any confusion on what these prophecies mean so people don't think Christians or prophecy are cuckoo! Prophecy from real prophets is always correct because it doesn't come from man. If there were errors the Old Testament prophets were killed as sorcerers. If you check the tract record of a real prophet they are never wrong. These men did not give dates!

This phenomenon has occured five times since the start of the last century (1910, 1928, 1946, 1964, and 1982).

Just looked at what happened after these dates.
1910 - 4 years after, the Great War.
1928 - The following year, the Great Depression.
1946 - The end of the Second World War.
1964 - The miniskirt and free love.
1982 - Start of the battle for the Falkland Islands.

2015 What will happen next?

Thanks for opening this discussion Andy, I can not wait to see it they are dazzling and amazing to view. Of all things a low pressure of sorts coming up into the Gulf of Mexico, it does seem to be nudging more to the central Gulf of Mexico heading up from the Yucatan. They were expecting it to move northward sometime Sunday, they now say sometime next Wednesday, I did view one full lunar eclipse earth morning over 8 years ago just prior to the sun rise and it was surreal. It too was a blood moon......thanks again Andy

Getting off the subject I just read the report on MSN inner net, and now scientist are highly baffled by a zone in the Atlantic here we had the hottest temperatures globally and there is a zone of extreme cold temperatures. They are puzzled what may be the origin or cause and they did say though similar to the sci fi movie The Day After Tomorrow....I would have to think an area in the upper atmosphere is allowing downdrafts to move downwards in that area......perhaps some of you saw that report today on the inner net.....it was a great sci-fi movie The Day After Tomorrow......

My suite is on the 4th floor and faces north, north east and will look out tomorrow and see the view of Venus, Jupiter and Mars...

Did anyone else happen to see the documentary on a PBS station about the woman statue above the US Capital Building and why she was selected she has a crown of stars on her head and the symbolism .and they seem to think she represents extraterrestrial being from another world who have visited and returned to watch over the earth.... Very interesting connection, I had never really new about the history of the woman selected to sit atop the Capital Building in Washington, DC.......it is a beautiful statue, it does make you think a bit a woman and not a male statue? A very symbolic representation and the equality of women's role in society and the majestic statue of Lady Liberty. Power to the women of world past and future and their import contributions to civilization......

Cheers, Michael Hoard Principal Actor, Artist, Photographer and Writer.....

It is amusing that there are so many end-of-the-world predictions when astronomical events take place. Eclipses, comets, planetary alignments, etc all have come with claims of the end of the world. These are all just manifestations of bodies of mass and orbital mechanics. Now, when the sun blows up, which it will some day (we will all be long gone by then), THAT will be a different story!

CSI - Civilian Sim Instructor, AKA my day job title.

Apparently, it's 'Karma is a B**ch Day'.

First, my main PC is having all kinds of pesky technical difficulties.

Second, my date to attend a space-themed art show and eclipse viewing event, at the local planetarium, crashed and burned at the last minute.

Finally, after days and days and days of hot, clear skies, our forecast for tonight has suddenly gone from 'clear and cooler' to 'muggy and mostly cloudy with a chance of scattered thunderstorms.' Yep -- the clouds are rolling in as I type.

This day has gone from 60 to zero, in no seconds flat. (More Yugo than LaFerrari.)

Guess I'll be viewing online. Poor, poor, pitiful me. ~ heavy, pathetic sigh ~

The weather here is going downhill vs what was forecast as well, looks like mostly cloudy and maybe even some rain, appears to be a common theme. I can't say I was all that interested in this red moon thing anyway. I guess I'm weird in that astronomy has never held much interest for me, what's down here on Earth is far more interesting to me.

David, I've always been interested in celestial events. It stems from some very early memories of my grandmother and us kids 'camping out' in the backyard, while she told us stories about the constellations. I spend many a night -- even without the promise of an eclipse -- out on the porch, moon- and star-gazing. :-)

James, have a lovely evening!

Finally will there be something exciting happen here in the UK, here if there's a half inch of snow or a few leaves on our railway lines it's like the world has ended, for god sake don't tell anyone in the UK if the moons going to do that lol they be raiding the shops for food within minutes!!!!!!!!! I'm OK with it.

some people has been saying, well everyone will be taking photos, well I sure will, haven't seen this before. May well never see this again so I'm making the most of it.

If I go poof in the night - nice knowing everyone!

Beautiful clear night here. Moon is rising over the hay field, should be great for viewing. I can see it from my living room chair. One on one the moon, one eye on The Great British Baking contest.

Only thing is is that the moon doesn't look like blood, its orange. Over dramatizations from astronomers in their naming of occurrences, as usual.

Here it just looked slight yellow-pale, but then I could hardly see it because of the cloud cover.

We drove to the dam at Chatfield Reservoir so there wouldn't be trees in the way. There were a lot of people there, some with some serious looking camera equipment. My husband & son brought their cell phone cameras, which were completely inadequate.

A little before 7:00pm, the moon rose, huge and full, it was a soft coral color. Then it turned bright white and the earth's shadow started passed over it, first a cookie-bite, then a half-moon, and it kept going until it was just a sliver (still white). It didn't turn color until it was almost completely in shadow. By about 8:45pm it really looked like a blood-moon, reddish-orange around the edges, dark gray shadow in the middle obscuring the moon's face. Amazing.

If I didn't belong to a culture that has un-scary scientific explanations for this sort of thing... I would be completely spooked by it.

We also got a great sunset over the Rocky Mountains...a bonus.

just watched the perfect beautiful full red- orange supermoon for about an hr.... i felt a deep feeling looking at it over its full eclipse, it seemed most red just minutes before. opened my bedroom window and gazed in full view, cloudless skies.
happy full reddy orange supermoon everyone!

i got a few 127xs zoom shots and its definitley a deep reddy orange, although the colour quickly evaporates as the "diamond ring" edge appears,

i should upload a few tomorrow. it did feel, mysterious, deep, meaningful.... destinies perhaps are written upon the skies...
so many solar happenings as of late, we had the partial solar eclipse earlier this year but it was cloudy, and the 3rd red moon earlier though i miseed that too. i saw Venus, Jupiter and Mars a few nights ago too. its great to,watch and imerse into the cosmos... that great spirit of creation

Sleep tight.

Wendy, sorry you didn't get to go to the space themed art show and moon viewing at the planetarium, sounds like a great time. If I lived near enough you could have called me! I need to suggest that kind of art show at the VA Science Museum sounds like a winner, in the meantime I've got to start working on my moon/space image...

Was cloudy here so I couldn't see it, so it didn't happen. Also, the pope made it out of Philly alive, so this guy has already racked up a miracle on his road to sainthood.

Thanks for the commiseration, Suzanne. :-)

We had full cloud cover at my place, so I never even got a glimpse of the celestial event. Several people within a 30-mile radius called to say they'd some some or most or all of it. Clouds were patchy, with my house being in the wrong patch.

Instead, I spent the night catching up on episodes of 'Fear The Walking Dead' -- which, while not on the level of a supermoon eclipse, certainly has its own charm. ;-)

C'est la vie -- let's see what this new day brings!

Susan, we need to discuss this 'couldn't see it so it didn't happen' thing you've got going,. ;-)

Yikes! I'll save all that for a time when I haven't been awake for more than 34 hours! :-)
