HH Photography of Florida

A Name Change And The Number Of Visits

About three weeks or so ago, I changed my online name from HH Photography to HH Photography of Florida (to differentiate me from other HH Photography's) and since then, my number of daily visits/views has dropped dramatically although I continue to promote offsite. I did go back through my twitter photos and many, many of the links were broken and so I deleted all of those photos. I didn't change my twitter handle but do you think that changing my artist's name affects the # of views I might be getting? Still have the same number of followers on twitter so not really sure how all of this is interconnected. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

There are two groups You may have lost:

- the bots which regularly visited and now have to find the way back
- the real visitors who have bookmarked You and now go into nowhere.

The problem is, that Your old name was part of each image name. That is how FAA works. Other sites give independent numbers to Your uploads what's less problematic.

Some months ago I also wanted to change my name to a more visual one but did not because of this problem.

Yep, it will have an effect. The same goes for renaming images, as far as I can see. As the artist name and image name are embedded in the URI if you change either all previous links are broken. I had this issue when I used dashes in the image title a way back, and the file naming seemed a little inconsistent but it seems to be ok now.

It's gonna take a while to pick up but already has started so don't change again :)

Thanks for the insight Rudy, Richard and Abbie ... and I won't be changing again, Abbie. :)

Abbie ... if you read this. I've been promoting some work from my artist's website to twitter and new views are showing up on the AW site but the counter sits at 0 on the FAA site for the same image. So I just now tweeted the photo from FAA and the counter went to 1 so it's working but the same image on AW is showing 24 views. I thought the two were linked and what happened on one, happened on the other. Is that not the case?

No, well done on the advertising.

keep in mind that the word photography is a filter, so if anyone looks for you in the search, they won't find anything. you would be better off pushing the HH part so it makes some sense. beyond that you have to push your name. if people were used to seeing your here, and all the other links you made are broken because of the change, that would affect views.

Mike ... what do you mean when you say the word photography is a filter and to push the HH part? I see many photographers with so and so Photography. Was the name change not a good idea? When I originally would google HH Photography, I might land up on page 2 or 3. With the name change to HH Photography of Florida, I'm front and center on page 1. That's a good thing, isn't it? And yes, I do need to participate more in the threads.

I've read before where you say to sign your name to any comment you make in the threads ... and why is that?
