How Does This Work?

My husband an I were having lunch in a restaurant. A biker dude walks in and has a seat at the bar. On the back of his shirt there's an illustration for a place called the 'Psycho Silo' located in some city in either Illinois or Indiana. I can't remember and it doesn't matter.

My husband was curious where the town was located so he Googled it. Google came back with a map which showed the location of the town. Located near the town was a pin with the name 'Psycho Silo'

My husband only Googled the town name. Why did it pull up the 'Psycho Silo' too?

Cause google knows all...

Google maps/google will show you whats related to your search based on popular searches. My guess is that's a popular related search to the town name.

Hi Karyn. Probably a small town and the main tourist attraction.
or perhaps Google knew you were both in the same location.... doo doo doo doo....

I can't speak specifically for your pin, but if I search for a result near a popular destination, the pin for that destination will come up as well. this is specially so if the pin does the same business as what you seek or is why the town is known (must visit destination because you can't possibly miss…Psycho Silo). Maybe someone else here would have a better idea.

Ok. Pretty much what Jenine says :)

Hmmm...I don't think I want to live in a town where the main attraction is called the 'Psycho Silo'.

Janine, my first thought was that Google someone knew we were both in the same bar. I tend to gravitate toward the sinister when dealing with the unknown and it was kind of doo, doo, doo, doo.

4.8 out of 5 stars on Facebook. Located in Langley, Il if anyone is interested. Perhaps I was too quick to judge.

You can reset the privacy to avoid it.

Karyn, call me if you decide to go check it out. I've been told I have a way with psychos. ;-)

google implants when you were sleeping, causes you to send data back to them, so they know what your going to look for.

i suppose though, the name of the town - may only be known for that one place, and they marketed so well, that it comes up now. and if people in your area was being blasted by that guy's shirt, the words may have stuck together. its how google works to give you content. in kind of a scary way.

its a good name, easy to find.

I know, Wendy, you've helped me many times.

Mike, I thought my aluminum foil hat was enough to keep the Googles out of my head, I guess not.

Forget about getting on the first page of search, I want my name to pop up on a map when someone Googles 'Gilbert, Arizona'.

BTW, I never give my cell phone# to any social media sites.

In the old days, you'd ask the guy. He'd tell you all about it. Does the Internet make the world smaller or does interfere with new social connections?

That's a good question, Ed.

I definitely would have struck up a conversation (and asked to see his bike, and probably have heard all about his mother-in-law's ankle surgery), but I routinely 'talk to strangers'. Not everybody's comfortable with that.

Without the Internet, Karyn may never have learned any details about the Psycho Silo. One way or the other, her horizons have broadened!

Langley. That explains a lot :D

in your sleep - google comes in, and injects things directly into your eye balls. nothing you can do can prevent it, tin foil is over rated. remember that one night you felt something in your eye? that was them.

to get on the first page means you need to associate your name heavily with that area. or pay them.

Lol! Oh my goodness. I though that was for Martinis, and only if Hal Lipset was bartending.
