The Sky Ladder

This pyrotechnic installation was created by Cai Guoqiang using a weather balloon.

Who paid for it?

Sorry, that's where my mind goes, when I see an artist using specialized materials and equipment out of the usual financial range of many other artists. And all for 80 seconds of impact. What was the fireworks cost? The metal ladder? The balloon? Was a permit required - with a cost? Was a city inspector's approval required? Was fire department oversight required? Police safety protocols? Liability issues?

In the USA, I would imagine that these considerations would be more prominent, and since I am from the USA, I tend to think about these possible limitations imposed on such a project here.

Do building demolitions count as art installations? Let's implode one, and name it Highway To Hell.

Wow. It always amazes me how they make fireworks.
