Anyone Here Use Issuu?

Is it hard to use? Do you have to know Photoshop to use it? I'd like to showcase my photos using Issuu but am finding the instructions confusing. Thanks in advance for any tips and advice!!!

Just for fun, here's a nice pic I took recently of an old-fashioned fire alarm / police call box in NYC.

Never heard of Issuu before, just checked it out. Looks interesting - and confusing, as you wrote... ;-)

Lol Miriam, that Image was random!

I'm a member but not got around to using it yet. Hard work.

Looks simple enough to me. As long as you can design and create a nice PDF you're good to go.

For those unfamiliar, here's reviews and info:

http://nubuntu.org/services/issuu-review
http://pixsym.com/issuu-review-magazines-never-looked-so-sexy/

The free version might be useful - another way to get yourself out there. However, I'll pass on the the plus and premium plans @ $312 and $420 per year.

Here's a quick idea that will enable you to use it instantly.

Grab a bunch of your sales PDF's - a "themed" grouping. Upload them and create a flip magazine then embed on your website.

Edit:

One of the articles above mentioned Yumpu. Here's a review that says it compares to and may be superior to the free version of Issuu:

I had never heard of it, but I do have to get around to trying everything out and will be looking into this. Thanks!

And ty too Dan for this advice. At those prices, I think I would pass too, but will look at the other version for now :)

Thanks to the OP for the heads-up.

Although this thread is about issuu, upon further investigation it appears yumpu is a better product. It offers some of the features free issuu does (for $$$).

I would strongly suggest anybody considering this form of publishing read this review first.

I have not had time to create a publication, but would like to see any created by others. Post a link in this thread.

This is really, really good info, everyone. As soon as I get a second I'm gonna look at each link (thanks Dan!!!).

I'd like to use Issuu or something similar to pitch my art to a book publisher.

At this point, I'm thinking about going with something quick and easy, for me ... such as PowerPoint.

Any thoughts on what to use for a nice e-presentation that can be emailed?
This is really why I was considering Issuu.

Thanks!!!

p.s. - There are a few people here at FAA who produce Issuu mags in their groups - maybe they can join the discussion.

I find creating PDFs is easier for me.

If there are any "PDF challenged" folks here, you can download the free CutePDF. It installs on a desktop like a print driver. When you print anything, a web page, an email. a word doc, anything - you select CutePDF from the printer list instead of a hardware printer. It then creates a pdf.

Oh, and one other thing. For those who do not wish to purchase Microsoft powerpoint or office, there is a free office app OpenOffice whch is rather good. Just like MS Office, has spreadsheets, word processing, presentations, etc. Only, it's free.
