The only way to know is to go to the source and see how he does what he does. His website says he does photo manipulated character illustration. So that's what he does. You can speculate all you want about this kind of thing, sometimes it's easy to figure out and sometimes not. Check the source of the image.

"Rodney Pike Humorous Illustrator. I have a lifetime of experience in Fine Art and Graphic Design and Digital Illustration. I offer Photo-Manipulated Illustrations of all sorts but I specialize in Photo-Manipulated Caricature Illustration, Humorous Illustration and Political Satire, perfect for magazines, books, etc."

Reminded me of that song "Don't worry Be Happy"
I like it. Digital I think.

Frankly I do not know if it's a painting or digital or a hybrid.

What I'm really curious about is what is she really smiling about?

Does she know something we (the viewers) don't know?

Maybe she's thinking "Will they wonder if this is a painting or digital".

Is this really a self portrait of the artist in drag?

What is the symbolism of the background?

Such a mysterious painting for the ages!

Danl,

Her forehead, nose and up on top of her cheeks are not yellowed like the rest of the
very old image.

The lipstick is the bomb.

Is the face painted and the background digital or the other way around? Can't seem to put it all together.

Cynthia Decker

The face is a photo of Rowan Atkinson, digitally added to the background, which was originally the Mona Lisa, then the face and the background were blended together using digital painting and illustration techniques to make it look harmonious and achieve the end result, which is hilarious.

The Illustrator's website is RodneyPike.com

I think it's important when you discuss the work of another artist that you at least credit them by name. :)

Monsieur Danl

Cynthia-

I did credit Rodney Pike as the artist.

Thanks for your rendition of "what's what".

Oh you did! I'm so sorry, Danl. I misspoke. :)

Did Pike put the smirk on her face just to say..."you'll never guess: digital or painting?"

Danl,

This was done by an FAA artist. It is easy to find on Google Images. It is Sunday, warning no one in an office work environment wants to scroll this. Nudity.

Danl,

My sense of humor is oversized. A problem from birth, or since birth. I never met a joke I did not like.

When people make these digital works out of old master works, they make humorous statements.
I avoid that. I only make more serious art. Not serious lets have a talk about his dad. But serious
studies.

My Mona Lisa.......

David-

Is that a tattoo of the artist's face on her left arm?

David Bridburg

Nope, that is the only part of the actual mona lisa original used at all in that upper image I posted.

I think you mean the head up top.

The arm is distorted.

Forgot to match the drapes to the carpet on the last one. Dani, the nice thing about learning this type of design is, you can ad a face to a tree in the same way. So many fun things can be done. It can also take hours to make sure every part is perfect.

Even in fun, I thought that my first attempt was pretty bad, and so that's why you see a blank post with my name on it above, because I deleted it.

I gave it another shot, and here is what I came up with THIS time:

I would say 93% another artists idea and painting, 7% Rodney Pike's creation- it's a digital illustration

Monsieur Danl

Robert-

You just might put Rodney Pike out of business.

Robert Kernodle

M. Danl,

I sincerely doubt it.

Oh, I made one more tweak to the image I posted yesterday. I added a cyborg arm (actually, a steam punk arm). (^_^)

Scroll up and have a look.

I would say 100% Rodney Pike's creation, using another artist's idea as source material.

To attribute Pike's creation at this high a percentage to "another artist's idea" is like attributing 93% of a painter's painted canvas to Nature for creating all the raw materials that enabled the canvas cloth, oil paints, animal hair for bristles of the brush, technology to produce the lathe that spun the wood handle for the brush, and all the workers who contributed to the manufacturing of the painter's materials, AFTER nature provided the foundation.
