Eye Sensor Trigger From Sony

Anyone seen this? Looks quite interesting but would require a bit of a change in photographic technique.
Do you think it's a winner or a gimmick?

I see that the sensor is located on the eyepiece. I used to view using the LCD until I discovered that using the eyepiece made it easier to track BIF and other wildlife. For me, I wouldn't like it. It does seem like a plus for landscape or night photographers as they wouldn't have to worry about a shutter release.

I have a Sony a6000 so I could try this; you have to download an 'app' into the camera. But I already have an IR remote, and I can't think of any situation in which waving my hand in front of the viewfinder would be preferable.

i remember a while ago a canon had a eye focus thing. where you would look at the area you wanted to be in focus. but i haven't seen it since that camera.

The EOS5 had it. I'm sure it will come in handy on the Sony for when I'm eating a sandwich.

Not a winner then, it would appear :-)

I just want my next DSLR to have a cup holder.....

Might need to go medium format for that to fit.
