Coupon Code Follow-up After Sale

Wouldn't it be great if we could offer a coupon code to a buyer after a sale? Someone just bought three prints from us, and I'm feeling very thankful at the moment. So, if I could I would send them a thank-you email with a $10 off coupon for their next order. I bet this kind of thing would help lock in return customers. Does anyone else think this feature would be useful? This could be an automated feature that artists set up in their account. Just a simple message like, "Thanks for purchasing from us. Here is a discount code for xx off your next order from my store."

Thoughts?

i'm betting they would cancel the order just to get the discount.

and you would have to explain the coupon process.

Nice one. You's have to wait more than 30 days to thwart Mike's scheme :D

Yeah, hadn't thought of that. But maybe 30 days is a good waiting period anyway. It would give them time to enjoy the art in their house. If they like it, then they might be thinking they would want more by the same artist. Then, they get a personal thank-you note with a code. It might be enough to tip them over the edge to buying more.

i'd rather have an auto code for the newsletter. where i can have a one time use - but unlimited time, discount code, or even one generated when they get the newsletter. i'd make one for something like that. like around 15% off your first order. i think many get the newsletter or sign up because they think they will get a coupon from it.

oh and i mention the scheme because on another site - that starts with a Z - i will get a sale, and then the product is for sale - they cancel and get it again. its really annoying, because they were planning on getting it full price.

I love the idea. In fact, I've suggested it before. :-)

Try sending them a nice thank you letter and offer them a special coupon toward their next purchase. It would perhaps favor their looking for that next purchase sooner through you; and if you let them know that they have to let you know in advance so you can do that special for them only, you may just create a repeat customer that feels special.

Mike Breau - You usually don't know who are your customers here on FAA. Only FAA could send them any follow-ups, normally. They don't tell us because some artists would hound the customers, and to protect the customers' privacy.

Once they order they become FAAs customers and will receive promotions for other artists.
....

Its not like e-commerce market leader Amazon who has the ability to target specific messages to specific buyers such as "I see you are interested in X. Here is a new item from X".

Its more like "Hey you bought something, here is a generic promotion that everyone gets".
