Is That Weird?

Hello,

I would like your point of view about this image, do you find this weird?
Art Prints

Thanks,
Vincent.

It's a little weird, but not the weirdest thing I've seen.
What do you mean by weird, just strange or different or something possibly
wrong with the image, or a concern it may not have sales appeal?
If you were not going for weird, it would make it even weirder...?
Just wondering your concerns for asking, do you think it is?

i think the glow is kind of weird. and the lack of texture and shading on the background. and the blood is rather cartoon like. i'm not sure if the max headroom background really works for this.

not sure who would want that on their wall so yes I think it is weird!!!

It's not weird. It's hard to find anything truly weird nowadays. Maybe if you got rid of the background. Checks are cliche unless on an actual checkerboard and there is meaning behind it. Statues are cliche, unless you've drawn them, or they have meaning behind them.

I like it very much overall, but I don't like blood. I'm inspired by your gallery -- very unique, including your avatar.

Vincent,

I see you are working with PD images in PS.

Yes by weird I mean not sale appeal. Anyway sometimes it's more to send a message than to sale.

Thank you for your remark. I think without the red blood, it's less good. The blood is on the original photo but I gave it a relief effect and the red colour. It's a photo of a statue of Louvre. As notice by Mike, the blood is maybe too much cartoon-like.

What is PD images?
PS means Photoshop? I use Gimp as images manipulation program, it's free and under GPL Licence: http://www.gimp.org/ and I use also sometimes iPhoto.

It's a photo of a statue of the Louvre museum of Paris I did on 2013. When I need some source I can't do by myself, like for the image of space for example, I take a look at http://pixabay.com/

I like it and find it interesting on many levels. A creative use of an image, the angle at which the statue is placed is eye catching with the background, well done. I like how the blood looks, the detail of the shine draws your attention. Why does it need to look "real," whats real about this work?! I think you are onto something Vincent and encourage you to continue exploring.

I find no art "weird"....just interesting

Interesting, Yes. Weird, No.
I would prefer the outline of the statue wasn't blurred but that's just my personal choice. Nice composite image.

Vincent,

Thanks for introducing me to Pixabay.com I had never heard of it. It will be very very useful going forward.

Appreciated,

Dave

i wonder how safe that pixabay place is. if you can upload your own work, then anyone can take and upload anything.

I can check what I download with my antivirus software.

Vincent,

We both are working with public domain works to alter them. I use Photoshop, PS.
PS is a pain to learn, but very useful later.

I imagine GIMP is just as useful. There are fewer GIMP textbooks. I read a couple of textbooks
before getting started.

Good luck with sales. This is a new area for the public to be taking in. It is very early yet.

no not with viruses, if the copyright is really free or not. anyone can upload anything. which means they may not be the artist, and you may be using stolen images.

Mike,

PD means PD.

I am not worried about it. I research the artist and the date of death.

I had all sorts of ideas for Picasso's works, but he died in 1973. Fortunately and unfortunately he did not die sooner. Bad humor.

I think Pixabay is reputable, all the images come from one of the big stock websites. It is my understanding one can not get a virus from an infected photo file, your computer has to already have the virus. We would be hearing a lot more about infected files if that were the case. Whether it compounds the problem your computer already has I don't know the answer to that.

Mike Savad

i was never talking viruses. they don't come from images anyway. if you can upload your own work, then the work on that site may be contaminated. just like you can upload stock to pinterest. doesn't mean they can. in any case, any place claiming to have stock quality things, i would be weary of. there are other places that offer free things, but you can tell that they are free, usually they are snapshots.

You are right, I will need to look further into it. I need to know just how professional the images
are. And that might change a lot from image to image.

Mike, David,

On http://pixabay.com they really check if you are the owner of the images you upload and if the images are already on Internet. I had a discussion with one guy of pixabay and they told me they check this using http://images.google.com. Example by searching my own image "The Dragger And The Checkerboard" using the link method:

https://www.google.fr/search?tbs=sbi:AMhZZis9iRcc-wFOVtZGiAI2gNJTNXPWLgMytP5kSNU8ITJ_1xfDLUp73RyFQi1o8Y8C5HPj1WKXHNQO8magb-3tRIW4wVt9-UJkO58rRcotbxsmFB2KSZ5Nc6qP30kXllq8w_1B2sj101rpZMyku_1SOe2Ktqm9K8CM86I4qkxangb32Xujilh4QaiaWFw8P6JA5WI-tsjysxE_1dBs9rXDlRJ7r-iJG_1xqR-UgtNBUiiwp7sho31Ew5RHzvwMOwu_1uUaXHO8sRSjVGur-2lNvjn-gYwT7s4X2k7y4ufcWTrR85BDRyNO0U0yBAmtKQcAnXZer6pqapOvcnMosXOr4qfuc28MUh1ona4m45Fqv6ssckyKST2vyw6hJKzEfCPy4n0tmARtg4or7v5ZxteekqrmP5Svp6SATkQzXUpt5znrWc9H7AtwRkzx4nhpc6Kk_13qtmqYQyX_1mug7vRBfVQQfpYecWFZ0-D6jr8-vODXJpNeI4XhtoBrkLozlsP5tYsFXMKmjnh6me90aNZPzj0ktUvI6JjFrGNwA5TnCT_1gaDA57xQwrWr8xM7k7rQvVopZlqN-F0EWskYM1fiiH1l9_1Yo0Ch52YXGwQ2KQafCNDJHFkmaRiDEdvS9UE9Oa2FfgfoWNEEN3PQx46WZ-gNUsghPRsYa62Gumkx4xqQjesJcxtFUNUr3feCNfC7gRmVXz7b12KES1lEib9K1uFWpulKVS86cSdyK1vBmnHrlfHgfS_1qcqHfTIFGBAZbTNMQRA7sfW9qtKevvaq5aP4BswmpBJEt9pxalLya4wdjow4Ox5T3qMYm-BAFcXWLl6FtHe-rKP_1nNzlSKKkPfNGVn1nHRs2N54s1iITMcZJsoC48tKWYD1131CsoranNXvhYykm2jv46viirh2pdA9TihTYdfc7myjAq0WibPbX4BSnGblM-e_1JgIfif-4jzBZW-FEYmQH_1iYF1pQRmWt_1MQytxgNAIyeNJHpzpSrqQewvqRDJs7VfDWoEkIyWSUqAjAuBrc-WPthoJc5C1HOq0u8_1uNnoUzbazYd9ngqLS0Lu7lo35kdQSP_18q6VVML9ZGDUwcdoABSwhC3CZWsVGZLi5zTl03faJH1yMazAwFc50HP5Q_1B8Bc7HqKH-FsK7M07HyLW7Ltw_1UrU1WwjjYRFmK2pwt5yqKtreNWOTp6iiIUMqauqkW9jWVafVHJGPmakHh1nO8_1_1w-Fp31cGm3ccwpqaETvQjPlbfq8Fd4nI-0Q1YI5U5cag3kSZ0cCAUcag3bo1AorJRkyP_1O9W0DGQ1nlqEEYBV5sue_1CcOV7ik6TZkh4ixQzjXD3iieymU-Fbbc02_1bhgBpsnIw1yWTdPaSLo86UKJovdy0blZxEHE6TicsGUbI8zMBYwMqz4lMvH22sYbgqHSqFkbMUVLSThAosM-haiVXDRHVhzXJWTjNV9u--09KZAO86YvcEO7zhjoXapG23aZIRPE84o6YuQvBs8kbAWbBwz1yWnhB1s4bqbk1Dpb9su_1ypMo

Most of the images are good on Pixabay, there is a choice of high resolution or lower. Most of the images appear to be taken with a camera with a quality sensor. Big difference between Morguefile.com and Pixabay.com. Morguefile has good and a lot of bad composition. Even with that I can find things at both sites and thankful for them.

checking to see if its on google is not a reliable way to see if its someone else's or not. just asking is not a good way either. look at all the sites that offer our work - all of them says - sure you can use the image i will let you. i'd still be weary of overly good photos handed out for free. google images does not contain all the images in the world btw.

and people using google images - right to use option - is also highly inaccurate.

I don't find it Wired enough. If you are striving for weirdness you need to push the limits more. Now as to the work itself. I am a bit detracted between the background and the statue. Now that may be intended. Something I was thinking perhaps if the statue was not a statue but a real living person or creature stabbing themselves it may be more powerful.Or perhaps part of the statue face fall's off and there is a human face under the statue . Or perhaps open up the world a bit more and have more statues stabbing themselves or something.

Something but I don't know why. It dose not feel like artwork with a statue who is stabbing itself but rather a photograph of a statue stabbing itself.I don't get the sense if being within the world but I am not sure why,.

Was reflecting on this again. Perhaps more to the world, Perhaps more statues, a bigger world, In fact I find the stabbing not as emotional as perhaps it needs to be, Perhaps more statues or people with shocked faces would make it a bit more dramatic and show more this is someone truly trying to kill themselves. Oh perhaps some papers falling to the ground as well. Could be the good bye, or the reasons for them killing themselves.

Suzanne,

Thanks for weighting in. These two sources are very new to me.
