Web Sites

Is there an advantage to having two web sites. Here's my problem, I have another web site that is called branhamphoto.com. I have had this web site domain name for the past 10 years and the name is now becoming well known with the search engines. I don't want to lose my name because it's short and simple and easier to remember than the one I have here { randallbranhamphotos.artistswebsites.com ] I have talked to Isabella about this and she says she can change my name here.
The reason I need to do something about the other site is I don't feel it's doing anything for my business and it's a maintenance nightmare what with me not being able to attend it properly and can't afford to pay someone. What should I do. Maybe just have branhamphoto redirected to here if that's a possibility. At any rate I'm waiting now for the registrar of my name to clear up the fact that I own it and not "Smug Mug the turtle" who want let go of anything. you folks are so good at giving a great variety of advice , I just though so many great minds might come up with the best answer. Just like you have with my LOGO that I'm changing/working on.
thanks for your time and effort It's much appreciated.
Randall

you're right .... Your domain comes up pretty high on Yahoo and Duck Duck Go ... but so does your artistwebsite. On Google I find your domain and your about.me page pretty high.

The reason I mention about.me is that at one time I had nine domains and now I only use my about.me page. ... thats right I dumped frankjcasella.com .. and I had it for over ten years. People search for my name anyways and today branding is more than your domain, its that you're on the top of the pile when they search for you. about.me has just as great seo as faa. and your create your own seo in a way because all the links you want people to find are right on your page ... you don't have to worry how the search engines will sort it out.

Hope this helps you out, Randall, here is my thread on the topic: http://fineartamerica.com/showmessages.php?messageid=2144651

Go into your domain toolset. There should be a place to forward your website to whatever address you want. Sounds like you're on the right track...

I would definitely think long and hard before giving up a website with 10 years experience. That's eternity on the web. The site has virtually no SEO. If it's getting found by search engines, that's entirely due to longevity. You might consider putting your AW in a subdomain of the existing website and trying to overhaul the overall site with reasonable SEO.

I would love to give advise but I got told last evening that members were forbidden to give out legal theories here so I don't want to get in trouble.. sorry..

I would never rely on a company website and give up my own domain(s)! You never know what´ll happen with a company. It can be sold, the terms of use can be changed whenever the owner likes, the owner can have an accident, etc.

If you want to sell something on the internet you need a web presence with your own name.

I like the embeded FAA shopping cart as part of my website, but if something happens today what let me change my mind, I simply implement something else.

You are not forbidden... You must just add a caveat that your post is not a legal post and is in 'my opinion only' or similar

So I guess I should contact Abbie and have branhamphoto redirected to here . thanks Folks

"I would never rely on a company website and give up my own domain(s)! You never know what´ll happen with a company. It can be sold, the terms of use can be changed whenever the owner likes, the owner can have an accident, etc. "

Colin -- That is exactly what I said not too long ago ... and believed. But then, isn't that what this thread is about ... the ever constant changes of the web and technology.

A print is sold way before a person buys it ... in most cases. This is one of the many reasons why so many artists here are saying they are not selling.

In my case I have learned that before a person buys they check me out online, then subscribe to my email list, get to know who I am as a person and an artist ... then buy, and buy again. It's called perceived value ... and it is done by my being transparent.

Randall -- I would rethink redirecting your domain name here ... that is if you want to keep it .... as Colin says, never rely on a company website.

I would instead redirect it to your about.me URL. That is were your personal Brand is and your transparency for developing buyer confidence... it works like a laser beam for a search page. It too, like you say about your domain name, is short and simple to remember compared to your artistwebsite. I couldn't agree more.

So Frank
you say I should redirect my branhamphoto domain name to about me.com and just keep randallbranhamphotos.artistswebsites.com as it is now?

Correct Randall. I have my about.me URL on my business cards and share it as the website link on all my social media channels ... include it as the signature in my emails. The about.me platform is a perfect fit for artists and photographers. The added benefit is it works like pinterest for people .... as well as has a stats page ..... and when people click on the links on your AM page it creates better SEO to them. Read the thread at the link in my first post here so I'm not repeating myself. I have many more email list subscribers and buyers as a result of this decision to dump my personal domain and use my about.me as my domain. You've claimed your name there Randall ... use it!!
