Watched a documentary on Vivian Maier today. She was a street photographer who never showed anyone her work. Born in 1926, her thousands of negatives anyone undeveloped rolls of film were found after her death in 2009. Amazing images any on did fascinating story. Highly recommended.

Is this the documentary you saw? It's nominated for an Academy Award. :) http://oscar.go.com/nominees/documentary-feature/finding-vivian-maier
Such a fascinating person.

Yes, that is it - incredible documentary

It was excellent. Great story, kind of got the idea the movie was trying to make a case for the collection - check off any potential problems. There still is some kind of battle between two people who own different parts of her work.

It's truly fascinating. I hope they are able to work about all the legal bits. It's a shame she never got to see what her work meant...

What stuck me was the idea that some distant relative in France would have any claim to the work. Some of them had to be paid to sign a release. Seems like no one in the family had any contact with her, and then to think somehow they would have any claim doesn't seem right.

I was just looking at her work on her official website here:

She was simply brilliant.

I went to an exhibit of her photography last summer in the Chicago area, and have seen the documentary as well. Her story is fascinating and her photography is amazing.

I saw this documentary a few months ago, and I think I posted something about it on here at the time. I thought it was amazing, both her work and the story about how she was discovered and her eccentric life!.

Yes, I became a fan when I first heard of her last year!!! :)))

I would rather see the relative get any profits than the 2 guys selling her work.

Another case of people making money and not putting anything back into the creative community.

Saw the movie last year. An odd bird of sort and truly inspirational. Of course there are two sides to the legal story . I'm glad the guy found the images to share I just wonder how much of a profit he is making. Someone has to pay for all the work in putting this together. The galleries get a 50/50 or60/40 split. The cost to produce the work is not cheap either. And now some relative wants their share too.
