I am trying to heighten my feeling for the organic rhythm in all things, trying to establish a pantheistic contact with the tremor and flow of blood in nature, in animals, in the air trying to make it all into a picture, with new movements and with colours that reduce our old easel paintings to absurdity.

It is like a presentiment of the war, terrible and gripping; I can hardly realize that I painted it myself (remark on his painting ‘The fate of Animals’, fh). In the hazy photograph, at any rate, it has an indefinable reality that quite made my flesh creep. It is artistically logical to paint such paintings ‘before’ a war, not as stupid reminiscences ‘after’ a war. Being a military brat, I named my dog "tag". I loved that dog. He represented all the military meant to me as a child. Tag was comforting to all the service members who came around him. He put a smile on all the soldiers faces. I dressed him up sometimes in camoflauge. His favorite blanket was one I had bought in Mexico. He was the best dog ever.

“Bison Bull Meadow – Standing� by Patti Deters. This huge male buffalo grazes in a pretty meadow with wildflowers and grasses. The horns on this bison were huge and his thick, dark brown, woolly fur was starting to show signs of molting. When they fight, males clash heads using the matted fur to cushion the blows. Hard to believe these beasts can also run up to 35 miles per hour! Their shoulder hump is mostly muscle which lets them use their heads to plow through winter snows. The time being homebound only makes me feel ok about not going out. My art studio is in my basement at home and once I get there, I can become pretty engrossed in painting projects. I come up to photograph the paintings and then feel guilty about needing to check on the art hanging in the gallery or bringing home groceries to fix a nice dinner. I can be ok with this for a while as long as I can get to walk and play tennis. I do miss my kids and worry about them.

Spring is here and I am hoping that this bluebird helps you embrace were you and and know that new life is still abounding. Happy Holy Week.

Also known as a mud hen or poulldeau, the American coot (Fulica americana) lives in much of the North American continent. It is a year-round resident in the Pacific west and south-southwestern United States and Mexico. They generally build floating nests, with the clutch size averaging 8-12 eggs.

When preparing to take flight, they beat their wings and move their legs furiously, kicking up waves of water before becoming airborne. It is quite an impressive sight to see when this happens!
