Photography Workflow Between Lightroom And Faa

I find it little cumbersome to upload my photos to FAA after I process then in Lightroom. I will export high definition file into a folder and than from FAA upload I have to look for that photo to upload. Wouldn't it be nice if FAA created a LR export plug in like Smugmug, Flickr, 500px..etc. ?
How do you get your photos to FAA ? Thank you.

Well, I go to the upload page, hit browse, find the image, hit upload and there it is.

How hard is it to create a plug in? I bet you could research it and figure it out and then share with us all.

I can't imagine wasting Sean's time on this when we need things like more worldwide printers.

edit image, save as jpg, upload. not too hard. i don't see why it would be so hard.

I would think you would want to save a jpeg anyway.

I split my FAA folder into 'to send' and 'sent' then just transfer them over once I have uploaded the images.

Mine go to a folder for new work and afterI upload they get copied to folders similar to the galleries. All my edited images are ready to upload elsewhere or used to make prints or as a source for a bulk edit and downsize for marketing.
I am leery of having all my edits saved only in a file format that is dependent on LRs proprietary software. Or anyone elses, including Nikon NEF.

Personally I find the uploaders to SmugMug in Lightroom and ACDSee to be very clunky at best.

The key is organization, that is, good file asset management. Come up with a work flow and directory structure that includes a final place to store your images. From there copy the ones you want to upload to FAA into a folder called "FAA". Simply browse to that folder to upload. Works every time.

Although Lightroom has asset management built in, I don't find it very intuitive. And I'm a Systems Administrator in my day job. I use ADCSee Pro. Very simple and easy to use without a lot of tutorials. You can copy and move from folder to folder and know exactly where you are keeping something.

Bradford, LR doesn't "save" anything in a proprietary format. It's non-destructive editing. The original RAW file never gets touched. Exports are to common formats like .tif and .jpg. If you want to save the edits, simply keep them in the catalog. I find if for some reason I ever need to go back, I generally prefer to reprocess the shot anyway.

Chuck. LR converts everything to it's own format. Thus the need to import and export.

I'm not sure what you're saying Bradford. If you're thinking of the need to import your RAW files into the DB, that's actually no longer necessary. They added to ability to import folder structure thus giving you the ability to leave all your RAW files on your drive completely intact.

Chuck the Lightroom file format is DNG. Yes, there is an option to leave it in your camera's Raw format. I am well aware of non destructive editing and LR is not the only one that has it. But my point was that I like to have a copy of the finished edit in a format that is more universal. And if I decide to upload the image, elsewhere I can find them easy enough.

I'm all for the Lightroom upload. I used it all the time when I was on Zenfolio. I love the feature. Would like it available here. But, since it's not. I do my edits in Lightroom, import into photoshop if additional editing is needed, then save to hard drive and upload.

After LR or other software I may use, I put images in individual files with the title of the image. I save a TIFF with no signature and a jpg file w/sig ready to print and send wherever it needs to go, like here, other pod's or one of the printer's I use to fulfill orders.

Isn't that what you wanted though Bradford, the choice? I have never used DNG for anything related to Lightroom. There is an option to convert them to DNG, but it's not forced. My finished copies are all TIFF for cleanup work in PS, then JPG. Are you using LR now? If not, what was the last version you used?

Being that I like to check my submissions to FAA for proper pricing, descriptions and keywords; I think that manually uploading is the way to go.

I ALWAYS open the jpg and view full size on my screen to check for any final edits that are needed. Having an uploader for Lightroom would open the possibility that a file would not export correctly and I just don't want that to happen.

My biggest project that I need to undertake is going back to my older postings and editing the keywords and descriptions in order to maximize their impact.

Thank you all for your input. All very valid points.
