Yep, those are good.

They missed the really irritating one (to me). "Can you provide some free images for X project? It would be great exposure for you."
I actually had a company hit me with this one when they wanted an image for their corporate Christmas card.

i may use the teaching camera thing.

usually i hear the - of course the images will be good, look at the size of your camera. usually it's just the glance i get though. i seem to tune people out totally.

One person told me, "I love using your images for my screensaver. I use a different one every week." I guess I became a photographer just to work for her.
Another one told me, "What's the smallest image you can make for me." It was of the moon. Perhaps I could have made her a one inch photo of the moon for her to enjoy.

A former girlfriend called to say, "My sister is coming for a visit. Come over and take pictures of us." Just reg pics, not nudes. I declined. She was highly insulted.

The live of a professional artist can be quite amusing.

You have a good camera right? Would you take some pictures of my kid and send them to me?

Bradford Martin

Would you like me to cover your event for you?

No thanks there will be plenty of people with cameras.
No thanks my friends will post photos on Facebook.
No thanks the local paper is going to cover it.

11. Why do you charge so much? You don't have to buy film, right?
12. Why are you charging me for 1/2 day? I need you for an hour and just the important shots and my friends will take the rest with their iPhones?
13. Is this hard? We're getting married in New Jersey, but we'd like all the set-up shots to look like we were in the Bahamas?
14. My husband to be, is shorter than me, but he asked if you could make him taller in all the shots?
15. We're having a big charity event and would like you to shoot it for free! Everyone else, the Ad Agency, the designers, printers, etc. are charging full price, would you mine, it's for a good cause?
16.I know you just submitted all the photos on the new project, but the client would like to see another angle of the building and we're over the budget as it is?
17. I know the sun never falls on the front of the building, but could you re-shoot it and make it look like it does, no budget, sorry?
18. We don't have any money in our budget for this event, but could you come and shoot it all day and then we'll see if anyone wants to buy some prints? What do you charge for 4x6 prints?
19. The client doesn't really know what they want,so could you just take some shots of his product and then we'll pay you for the one he likes?
20. And finally, "you're retired right,so why do you need to charge me like "real"photographers?"

And so it goes..........

22. you said you don't have those image of these made up things - what if i get you the images?
23. what do you mean i can't download load it from the internet?
24. i'd like to use your images... and of course i'll pay you.

you must have had a good time taking pictures of all of that. i suppose sure i did, but it's for business and honestly, the camera is heavy and its harder than it looks.

I wonder why those in the arts are treated differently? Just because we have natural talent doesn't mean we work any less hard at it. hmm.

Tamara,

It's generally viewed as a "talent or gift" and not work at all, especially photographers, since now a days, "anybody" can take a photo,right.............

I'd like to ask my plumber next time he shows up, "why charge me for all these tools you're using, they're all paid off, right?"

There are two I dislike the most

I take a carefully composed shot of a lake in the Everglades. Wait for the right time of day, the right clouds, the right light, the right season, wait for the wind to calm down etc.etc. and convert it to Black and White with the same effort and consideration. People can like what I did or they cannot like what I did. I don't really care all that much, BUT don't say it's a nice catch or great find.

The other one is when people tell me that a particular shot (the same image as above for instance) would make a great reference photo. Reference for what? To make some "real art" out of it?

On the commercial side of things I have been lucky so far, but then again, I learned everything I know from Missy Mwac.

Love your pictures. What kind of camera do you have? Oh, and from other photographers, do you want me to shoot some pics for your book jacket? Uh, no. My husband and I are both photographers. Rolls eyes.

Hahahaha!!!

27. I downloaded one of your photographs from the internet (my note: it was available online without a watermark/logo at the time) and I printed it with my home printer (my comment: I have no idea what printer that is) to hand it at my home. You don't mind, right? (my comment: btw he is not and has never been my client).

How to respond to this one?! :)

i had one guy tell me he bought something, but while he's waiting, because it's ever so important that he has that piece on his wall right now. he wanted me to give him a copy of the image as a file so he could print it out for his wall. i told him to wait a few days to get the main print.

@tamara - i think because art class was always an elective in school, and the arts don't really contribute like a doctor or an engineer would. so its easies to blow us off.

i have a good sized camera. a person looks at me and wants me to take a picture of them with their camera. they all show me where to push the button to take the image. they also assume i know what i'm doing.

most people think i'm a reporter.

@ Mike - "most people think I'm a reporter."

heh - I get that a lot. (I used to do a lot of shots for a couple of local/destination websites my daughter and I operate. )
