Question About Getting Published

I recently learned CONTROL is to be featured in next year's Strokes of Genius 7 annual publication. I need to provide a "caption" for the art and am not quite sure how to go about it. I've looked at samples from previous editions of the book and they are typically an explanatory paragraph about the artist's technique and theory. I have a poem that accompanies this drawing and would prefer to submit that for the caption. However, much like the drawing, it is unconventional and I'm concerned the editors won't go for it, possibly omitting my caption or entry altogether. The poem can be found here if you're interested...

They suggest some categories to elaborate on as...

1-SET UP (Plein air, photograph, etc)
2-TECHNIQUE
3-THEME (Being "Depth, Dimension & Space" both artistically and metaphorically.
4-PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

...but also suggest possibly weighing more heavily on a single category or another for the sake of diversity throughout the book.

This is my first time participating in anything like this. I want to represent myself professionally but also want to stay true to the art and its intentions. If there is anything else you feel I should keep on my radar throughout this process, please share. All thoughts from this vibrant and brilliant community are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time, LC and I agree wholeheartedly. I would like to think that the readers would appreciate a break in the norm, and in effect, this would be good for my brand. I just don't want to screw up a good opportunity.
Any other takers this evening?

Congratulations, Joe!

Seems you have some time before publication . . . can't you just ask them if your poem would be acceptable?

Whenever I've been published, I've gone out of my way to quickly set up a dialogue, on as friendly a basis as possible. People who feel they 'know' you are much more likely to be amenable to your wants.

Thanks again, Wendy. You're advice is always welcome. I've considered asking for the opportunity to submit an alternative caption if they deem the poem as being too over the top, but I also feel like this gives them an easy opportunity to reject it. If I just submit the poem without any self-imposed caveat, then they're at least forced to consider it. However, I like the idea of opening up a dialogue with them.

They accepted the poem with enthusiasm. 'Twas all worry and waste. Thanks again, you two! You helped my approach to this.
