Odd Activity Of China Visitors

I notice for 2-3 last days the very strange activity on one of my most popular and viewed image "Ghost of Love": http://fineartamerica.com/featured/ghost-of-love-1-jenny-rainbow.html?viewall=true

Only visible visitors on the opening list for today I counted:
Beijing, China – 16; Putian, China - 10; Fuzhou, China - 10; Guangzhou, China -8; (Australia??) Brisbane, Asia/Pacific Region - 22
It was yesterday, I just didnt count previously and Its still on going! They are coming as a mix of those addresses! If somebody else on FAA experiencing the same??
Why such popularity of the image in China and Brisbain (Australia)? Or this is bots which cant stop visiting??? I cant see another cities of China and Australia - only this!
Any explanaitions?

No idea, Jenny, why China would be interested - but it is a great image.

Thank you, Roy :-) But visitors from China make me qiet nervous, although another viewer from Brisibain - even more views?
Just would love to understand what is it...
And its only for this image - no for any others!

Hi Jenny -- like you I have been getting many visits from the western Pacific area in the last few days. Both of these images were visited almost 200 times each -- I'm assuming they are bots. BTW -- nice abstract techniqe on your image.

Photography PrintsSell Art Online

I also would like to know why so many visits from almost the same visitors. If the visits were trying to copy the image in high resolution by sequencing the preview box over and over, they would have a hard time blending out the FINE ART AMERICA watermark letters over the image.

Duane, I just visited your images and yes - its the same places! Regarding bots - maybe, not so sure, as usually bot coming once - in our case its repeated visits .. Bur a bit easier to know that somebody from FAA also experiencing it :-)

P.S. Thank you for the kind words regarding image:-)

Maybe it is linked on some social media or blog and the visits are the server for that site. I am not sure exactly how that works but I think that is a fairly common occurrence. Much of what we call bots are actually visits being relayed through another server.
Another thing that happens is I get sales with no visits that match the location of the sale.

Jenny Rainbow

Social media? Which its limited by these 4 places in China and Brisbain? Dont think so...
And yes, sometimes Im getting sales and couldnt see the visit of the buyer :-) Really funny :-) But better like this!

Same ones for me, too.....??

Jenny Rainbow

LOL. Vivian :-)

I think the visits are bots that are linked to tweets somehow -- perhaps a network technician could explain how a bot server address can be used between twitter users.

Bradford Martin

I didn't say the visits were from those 4 places . I was saying they could be from all over and linked through a site by 4 proxy servers. Big difference. Like what Duane just said. But not necessarily twitter or even a site you ever heard of. Image is posted as a link on a site that uses a few servers. Each view generates a visit from that server instead of the actual location of the viewer. Not something I made up.

I think your traffic might have to do with a pop song with the same title:
"Ghost of Love" is a radio single released exclusively in Finland by Finnish alternative rock band The Rasmus, and the third track on their 2008 studio album Black Roses. It was written by lead-singer Lauri Ylönen.

Jenny Rainbow

Bradford, Im afriad my knowledge regarding this system of proxy serves is pretty small, so I would believe you on that. Just wondering why and by whom chosen the particular images...

Jenny Rainbow

Alfred, I used the words of this song as quote for the description and it was from the uploading time 13 April 2013 - so its pretty long. And only now started such odd activity.
Also dont foreget the 2 images from Duan - he has the same issue with them..

Finally someone else is experiencing strange behavior on an image. My image, http://fineartamerica.com/featured/vanessa-sydne-archambault.html has moved up in views from Japan, 4,000 or so views. It hits my image every four minutes. Checking out the company that is the server which is Asia Pacific Networks. The hits are not from Japan but Australia.

I do believe this is what they call, hot linking, which is what I believe Bradford is implying. Often it is from blogs or websites, they don't steal your image they just link to it. Kind of piggy back riding on FAA's server's bandwidth.

I have yet to find the image anywhere else but FAA so far. This has been going on for two weeks. I haven't notified Asia Pacific, I probably should, but I was kind of enjoying the rise of views.

Jenny Rainbow

HUH! 4000?! Impressive - and yes - I can see the last ones only from Japan!
Wonderful painting by the way, Sydne! i would realize it could be in Japanese taste :-)
Now Im really curious what is it, and when it will be over! Hope its moving up somehow in the searching ranks ;-)

@jenny, when I did a search for the IP on google, it was pretty interesting,

Spam URLs & Keywords?

Maybe technical support would explain this issue?

Jeffery Johnson

Sounds like they need to block these "visitor bots".

Sydne Archambault

It appears the site that keeps hitting your images according to Honey Pot is a known spammer. So they are using your image on a blog or a website somewhere via hot linking. Another thing you can do is submit your image via google plus and it may take you to the culprit. You will need a small file to do that, like 500 pixels at 72 dpi. It wouldn't hurt to contact tech support either.

Beautiful piece by the way Jenny.

Sydne Archambault

It looks like Cheapaditas shoes is the web site and has a history of spamming. It is a Weebly site.

Jenny Rainbow

Yes, Sydne, got your point, Im going to write to tech support, just to clarify it.

Sydne Archambault

I went on the site to check if I spotted your image. It may have been and not now or I didn't search it well enough. Weebly is another place of contact as well I would think.

Jenny Rainbow

Sidney, I wrote to tech support, hopefully they will check it for us!

Sydne Archambault

I hope so. I actually considered putting one of my nudes in place of Vanessa. I thought it would be funny.

I do know from talking with some others who have experienced this, if you change the name it sometimes stops the connection.

Sydne, the change of title can be distructive as present link already given for the marketing for many different places.

I think Rob is right, it cant help in Google search - see with whole title Blue Dream. Inpressionism - came out all my works on all the sites. So its just already my own promotion and that the image was popular for long time...

If I Google: stone texture two

In Web search, I dont see you anywhere in the first 10 pages.

In Image Search, you are on the 2nd line.

Jenny Rainbow

Strange, why your work is not coming this way for me in Google search ?
Even in images....
Is Google showing the different results for those who in USA and who is in Russia???? :-)

Viktor Savchenko

I am using image search. Because I search for images.
My thanks to FFS

Yes - now Im also searching in images - but for me its not on the first results and im barely can find it...:-(

Jenny Rainbow

Victor. I meant Im now in Russia, not your location.

Got the answer from tech support : "Jenny, it looks like you have been shared on the Chinese version of Facebook or Twitter."

So....marketing in its power? :-)

FireFlux Studios

Tech support told you that?

Well, I have to say, its not the Chinese version of FB or Twitter, or it wouldn't be in Project Honey pot as a Spam bot.

Also, checking through my own web sites logs, I get lots of hits from those exact IP addresses, and they are directly trying to post comments and spam to my Wordpress sites.

My Spam protection blocks them and puts them in quarantine, and the comments they are trying to post are just links to rubbish sites trying to sell fake goods etc.

So, I'm afraid I would say that Tech Support is incorrect.

Sydne Archambault

What is project honey pot?

Heidi E Nelson

Duane, Jenny, How do you paste your images here? I tried using the link bottom on my behind the scenes page but all I get is fineartamerica.

FireFlux Studios

Its a free service you can use to, that logs hits by certain IPs, and logs their browser types, what they post etc etc.

https://www.projecthoneypot.org/home.php

People around the world put a little bit of code on their own web site(s), and it figures out if the bot is 'bad' and then logs it to them.

Its quite useful.

Of course, there can be false positives, I use many services to make sure that my research is more accurate, but project honey pot is usually my first stop.

Then other sites, like http://myip.ms , http://www.iplocation.net/ , http://whois.domaintools.com/ to name a few.

Sydne Archambault

Heidi read this from Vivian and you will learn how to do it.

Thanks Rob! I will try them. I put the code of my Japan visitor and it said it had no information and was not known to be a spammer.

I am curious though, if someone won't mind to hit my image, I want to see if it disrupts the Japan hits. Then let me know when you have done it.

Sydne, thanks for the link :-)

I actually asked Abbie to come in to this thread for the answer, well lets see if she can find the time as today is Sunday...

Sydne Archambault

Did you hit the link Jenny? Because if you did, it doesn't show up in views. Thanks for asking Abbie to drop by.

FireFlux Studios

I've just hit your link, 'Cardiff' is mine.

Would be good to hear from Abbie, and why she thinks its the 'Chinese Facebook'... as I cant see how it can be looking through my own logs for those IPs, and also using other sites and resources.

Sydne Archambault

Thanks Rob, yes you do show up. I used your suggested links and I did find some interesting info. I only wish I knew how to interpret it.

Jean Noren

Did I interrupt the Japan visitors, Sydne? Beautiful image.

Lynn Palmer

Such lovely work Sydne, I popped in from Miami for a visit :)

Sydne Archambault

Yes you both did. However Tokyo resumed its position. Thank you, I actually thought maybe it would off set Tokyo.....but Godzilla is still in the building! So appreciate the kind words.

Sydne Archambault

As suddenly as it began, it stopped. Tokyo left the building. So strange.

Jenny Rainbow

On Ghost of Love the China still rocks - more than 400 views + . Dont really know if I have to be glad of start to worry again.
Unfortunately Abbie decided not to pay attention to our request to expalin whats going on...Well really dont know what to say as usually she was helping...
Maybe everybody on FAA too busy with new printer in UK and simply no time for anything else..

Sydne Archambault

I don't know our concern is of high priority. Tokyo finished with 6060 views, odd numbers. Very strange.

Jenny Rainbow

I can say only WOW on the numbers, Sydne! 6060 - looks like significan digit... How you could count them??? Im sure they were in a mix with other views!
