Help Me Get On The Right Track Please

Hi there. I joined fine art america a while back and never got to work on it much. I think I need to try. Is step 1 just building galleries? And does fine art america set the price or do I have to add an extra percentage to my images? Thank you for the help.

Most people set up galleries, especially those that have a lot of work. Pricing is up to you. You enter what you want to make for each size.

Thank you Michelle. Do you know how many images I can upload?

you add your own price.

galleries are a good idea, it makes it easier to navigate. upload work, add keywords, description etc. you have some things up, but with only 3 words in tags, and no description - your basically hidden from everyone. you'll need a lot more than that.

if you have a free site 25 images
if you paid - unlimited.

Thank you Mike. I'm trying to do better on keywords and descriptions. I struggle with that, any tips appreciated.

Art Prints
queen doesn't fit at all.

butterfly, butterflies, insect, wings, winged, endangered, monarch, monarch butterfly, (find the latin name), your name, outside, garden, orange, resting, sitting, suckling, flower, summer, summertime, single, one, individual, etc - also try not to make a 2 in a title. try a new name.

be as creative as you can with the words.

Mike, why no 2 in the title? Is that generally frowned upon--or perhaps personal preference. I have used numerals when uploading a series of designed-to-be-hung together images. Hope this isn't off-topic, but Ian might find it helpful too.

Mike - its a queen butterfly, not a monarch

Galleries are a great way to keep your images organized and makes it easier for your viewers / buyers to find your images within your page.

As for keywords....use the obvious (butterfly, Asian, Swallowtail...for example)...but also use colors in your images (pink, green, yellow, etc.) or if there's also flowers with the butterfly use the keywords flower, floral, and the type and color of the flower....describe the image as a whole...not just the prime topic of the image. Hope I explained that right so it makes sense. LOL! I'm not the best at describing what I mean. LOL!

Thank you Mike. A few more questions. When you go to "shop" you can filter images by subjects, but I don't see a way to choose a subject category for my images. Can I? And you can shop "products" by choosing the medium, do I just set that by typing it in when I upload a photo? Thank you for the help.

Ian,

The key to effective keywording is to use all the terms – and only the terms – that are clearly conveyed by the content and context of the image. When keywording your files, take care to include terms that describe the main content, what it's doing, where it is, what concepts it conveys in your image, and how the image is composed.

Hope that helps you.

Thanks to everyone for all the help, I'm working on it and am hopeful. Feel free to add anymore wisdom

i think there is a subject list on the left, but it's keyword based. and there is really no difference there. the search order is listed by who sells the most anyway. you'll have to advertise to gain momentum. the only wisdom i'll add is - make sure your horizons are straight.

However, besides content, than keywords must contain your name and I believe title of work.

You can correct horizon lines later on the computer when doing the rest of your cropping, color adjusting, enhancing, etc.
Keep a list of your keywords handy in your word program for easy copying and editing.
